I am absolutely loving this this idea for Sim videos. The information you give on each aircraft, yours and the enemies, is a fantastic idea. Would you be willing to do a video on perhaps the F104A or C for the US tech tree in Sim? I wanna try it myself but I’m just not very good at Sim. Heck I’m not even that good at RB in the F104’s let alone Sim.
Glad to have you back, especially behind the stick of the Phantom. That said, I wonder how sneaky a Phantom can really be, normally they had a smoke-trail as if they were running coal instead of jet-fuel.
The mechanics of Sim VR in War Thunder are super fun; simple flight models, don't have to memorize ten thousand keys, just hop in and go. But the balance and spawn costs just ruin it.
Fights like the last one make me nostalgic about the old F86 vs Mig15 era of war thunder, I don't think top tier has ever been balanced as much as it was then
absolutely loved this one Magz, not much of a warthunder person (the grind just kills it for me) but you've made me tempted to reinstall it if i ever get VR just for sim
Don't grind, that's the fix. Pick an aircraft that you wouldnt mind having then just fly the planes you do have that you find most fun. The second you start looking for the most efficient way to grind out that next aircraft or tank or ship is the second you have just killed the fun for yourself. You'll unlock that nexxt plane eventually or maybe you wont, if your having fun playing the aircraft you enjoy does it even matter?
@@comradesoupbeans4437 Bombers are unplayable at the Moment they face way too difficult opponents armed with really big guns and especially the Air RB game shifted from balanced towards Fİghters primary.
I still don't play WT, but it's just nice to see someone play well and explain what they are doing. The history of the planes itself is also appreciated.
Great flying, making me really want to cave in and buy a VR headset to join in on this. Also wanted to mention if you or anyone reading comments doesn't already know most radar in WT provides IFF capability, meaning enemies show up as a |---| or kind of an "H" shape while friendlies show as = like an equals sign. You could turn on your radar just long enough to IFF someone at distance to identify dots as friend from foe then turn it off when you figure out who to chase. I think someone may have actually been doing just that to you in the first part of the video because you kept getting pinged once on the RWR then nothing.
For a good early cold war experience in a flight sim I can recommend Enigmas cold war server in DCS. Especially on the caucasus map where it is rear aspect only missiles putting a much higher emphasis on guns
No, thanks, been there done that. DCS is garbage for the early cold war, I mean frankly, it's right in your post. The Korean war ended in 1953, and the first Sidewinder missile wasnt used in combat until 1958. You are flying closer to a mid cold war server than an early one if missiles are allowed, I mean you are at the earliest flying just 3 years before the first deployment of the F-4 Phantom. I want someone to make a dedicated Korean war sim, someone that actually puts in the effort to re-create that theater. Eagle dynamics has demonstrated that they are not interested and I no longer get any enjoyment flying over the caucasus trying to pretend it's Korea and ignoring the 1980s architecture.
Same identification problem exists on ground sim as well, because US Lend&Lease policy means everyone has bunch of varieties of Sherman, M36, M24, M26, M41A1 just like NATO countries have variety of fighters between them, it's a torture designed by Gaijin matchmakers.
Lots of crap happening on my end. Between being in and out of hospital, Physiotherapy, Eye issues and the recent Vic floods. Bearly managed any videos over the last few months.
@@MagzGTV yeah i remember you mentioning it i hope your eye is better these days, and unfortunately nothing much you can do about natural disasters just hope for the best. I myself live on top of a fault line so we are always just waiting for the next big one
Why? VR controllers are awful for flying, zero feedback, zero centering not to mention you become reliant on the accuracy of the tracking sensors which are less accurate then the potentiometers that HOTAS designs did away with 10+ years ago for not being accurate enough. VR controllers are horrible for anything that requires pinpoint precision or feedback, flying an aircraft and specifically flying combat requires both.
@@YTFabbyUK The airfield AA in sim EC is toned down quite a bit from the insanity that is RB AA, also SIM EC is based completly around the score system. 3 hour matches, essentually unlimited respawns and the only way to end it is to run the other teams points out by hitting objectives.
If I could afford it I would, unfortunately at an MSRP of $1599 USD it's well out of my budget. I'd actually like to be able to do a lot more VR testing and reviews for flight sim users but I simply don't have the budget to even start.
Lol, little out of date on VR I see. Screen door effect hasn't been a problem for VR headsets since gen 1 so about six years now. Gen 1 CV1 had a per eye resolution of 1080×1200, low enough you can see the pixel gaps which is what the screen door effect is. The Reverb G2 I am using in this video has a per eye resolution of 2160 x 2160 per eye or just over 4k resolution combined so higher than the fixed screens most people are still using and high enough that the pixel gap is non visible in HMD. . . so there is no screen door effect anymore.
@@MagzGTV eah seems so - i own CV1, and it would be impossible to aim with it. Truht is it is laying on the shelf rarely used (sim racing mostly), Guess time to sell and get something else. If the scr door effect is non existent then it must be a blast - any problems with heat in the set ? I typically don't play more than 30 minutes just due to being uncomfortable
@@pch_mechanika It is, I have HMD's going back to the Occulus DK2 (Development kit) and the SDE was a major problem in the past. Finally bing at a point now where pretty much every current HMD on the market has moved past it is great, flight sim VR is simply the best way to do the hobby now. Just be warned, the new HMD's have amazing resolution but they take a pretty powerful system to drive at full in game graphics settings and at full frame rates (90+) in HMD. Problems with the G2? Controiller tracking isnt great, not that you ever really use the controllers in a flight sim but it's worth noting. I got one of the early G2's which had some poorly designed cables that I needed to replace fairly quickly, I think all the new ones now have the new cable design in box though. Beyond that it's mostly plug and play, though I would recoment the Vive 2 over the Reverb G2, it's a slightly newer and better HMD overall with an even higher resolution and it has better controller tracking as well.
No, its just somthign that's nice to have if you can have it. The problem is that having it can often come at the cost of extream development time which leads to some of the issues you see in DCS.
War thunder for me is unplayable. Always have high ping in US despite playing on the US servers and 50% of my deaths are from packet loss causing my play to crash

I think starting with the F-4E (which the F-4F is based on) and the F-4J, phantoms started using smokeless engines.
