PaleyLive: Hot Ones: A Spicy Evening with Sean Evans and the Hit YouTube Talk Show

- Creatives of "Hot Ones" (Sean Evans, Chris Schonberger, Domonique Burroughs) gather with moderator Seth Meyers to celebrate their show. Topics include: how a show about celebrities eating hot sauce-covered chicken wings while being interviewed was sold to TH-cam; guests' preparations for eating the spiciest of wings, and what can lead to problems; the taste-testing process for deciding on a season's hot sauce lineup; Meyers' stomach-churning reflections on being a "Hot Ones" guest; why each celebrity taping is usually cut to half of its running time; how guest Charlize Theron proved a turning point in the program's ratings; the reason that three "Hot Ones" shows were never aired; and why Pete Davidson, Coolio, and Will Smith's reactions proved the most concerning for producers.
I understand that bit about editing out the connective tissue, but I would pay money to watch Conan's unedited interview
Hard same. I fear the laughter would hurt worse than da bomb.
I think we all want that, hopefully our pleas will not go unheard!
Same with Shane gillis's interview that was heavily edited because he made some offensive jokes
Would 100% pay a silly amount of money for that
@@JimNortonsAlcoholismyou have one of the best screen names I’ve ever seen
Hot Ones is incredible, and the #1 underrated aspect of the show is how good the EDITING is. the timing and pacing is always absolutely perfect, and the sound design and FX are exactly what they need to be, while not being overdone at all. i'm a television producer who's worked as an editor, and Hot Ones brings me so much joy and impressiveness with every single episode. the editing is of course part of a much greater bag of tricks along with Sean's amazing interviewing skills and the obviously perfect behind-the-scenes production as well. it's honestly a master-class in digital content, all around.
I'm not sure I'd say the editing is underrated, the show is pretty universally loved and I think people recognize the editing. I agree, though, Hot Ones is freaking amazing, I was watching from the beginning and it's been so cool to see it grow and still stay so cool and fun.
Thanks for pointing that out. You are absolutely right! It´s something I also recoginzed early on and there is nothing to add.
Agreed, and would add that the sound they do during the edits (like the reverb on coughs) is like a grin multiplier for me.
This was awesome. Seth Meyers was the perfect choice for the interviewer and all of them are dressed so sharply!
I couldn't agree more!
They didn't mention my 2 favorite episodes. First, let's be real, them getting Billie Eilish on the show was HUGE and she, for being a kid at the time, really nailed it. And then my personal favorite, Dave Grohl getting Sean HAMMERED was such a fun episode. We are still holding out for Keanu Reeves. You can do it Sean!
Everything you said!
This was wonderful! So glad they're getting recognition for coming up with such an out of the box concept for something we see all the time, celebrity interviews. Genius.
As a longtime viewer, I have been most impressed by the interviewing. I learn about people as Sean walks them across the surface of the Sun
Thank you Paley for this interview. Lovely to see Sean, Chris and Dom get the deserved recognition
I really want to see Will Forte on Hot Ones
Hell yeah... if he saw Conan's episode I can see him going for the Unhinged Title lol
Jackel here! Love both shows.
*jackal (lol)
Jackals unite!
Celebrity baby teeth
@@meems1111 ;)
@@meems1111 so fitting . typos matter. jackals unite!! \ I love that seth did this. He constantly finds reasons to mention and frenemy diss sean and the show. so this is awesome.
Very happy and thankful to hear Sean doesn’t wanna quit doing hot ones anytime soon ! (,:❤
I'd like for politicians to do Hot Ones instead of debates.
I've seen Sean interviewed lots of times (and he's always great), but it was really interesting to see Dom and Schonberger in front of the camera, answering questions.
That dude Chris is super intelligent and wonderfully descriptive with his words. Never knew this behind the scenes guy before
Thank yall for this video ! Sean (hot ones) has been my comfort watch for almost 10 years and I am thrilled for his success and future to come.
The Key & Peele episode was definitely my first realization of what this show could be. Great interview, folks!
So glad to have caught this premiere. Keanu would be my #1 choice for Hot Ones. Also great to see the other talent that makes this show great.
Longtime fan! This was great fun and informative! Love Hot Ones! Appreciate Paley Center for hosting this!
I honestly wish the episodes were longer because the questions are so good! I know there can only be one James Lipton (Inside the Actors studio). But Sean ranks right up there with his own interview style and personality. I also will watch the episode no matter who the celebrity is just because I know I will learn something about the person or the industry.
💯
PLEASE GET KEANU ON THERE
I think they’re getting away from the deepest cut questions now that they’re scoring A-list celebs.
It’s been awhile since we’ve heard “how do you know that??” from a guest.
The interviews seem shorter because I/we would love to see these superstars for another 10 minutes EXCEPT for those coming just to do their bits. Will Ferrell and Conan’s bits were cute, but we really learned nothing new about them.
Finally I really want Sean and the guest closer now that Covid isn’t such a thing. They used to be able to actually ‘clink’ their wings, and Gordon was close enough to spray the milk. Bring them closer for that better chemistry.
(These critiques hopefully show that I’m a huge fan since show #3).
Thank you for this amazing interview!
Being on Fallon is where I first saw Sean do the wings with Selena Gomez and Jimmy and that pulled me in.
Ah i wanted to see this live so bad! Great interview ❤
Loved hearing from Chris !!!!
Damn, Sean brushes up fabulously
Says a great deal that I watched all of this.
I'm trying to imagine what it would've been like to do this with Robin Williams as a guest
too soon
Congratulations to all of you!
Oh man I need the lost episodes
That's a great idea of Seth's, there should be a patch or badge at the end for successful cleaning of the wings!
I´m kinda sad, that the research question was answered that short, because I would´ve liked to know more about that. From all I know is, that Sean does it together with his brother. But as we´ve seen in the HotOnes comments a lot of people said"oh, that´s a Nadwuar moment" and I would´ve liked to know, how and where find some of those deep informations.
Anyways...great interview and nice to see them 3 together on stage.
Sean’s brand move is the monotone speech and double single finger hand move up .but better than the small hands move from someone else
Seth is great, Hot Ones is great, this interview is great!
Great show!,❤
fun interview :) good job
Daydrinking with Sean please! 🤍
Keep it up! Yall are awesome❤🎉
damn, i'd have clicked this on first impression if the title or thumbnail told me seth was hosting
This is great. So curious to see behind the production curtain of this groundbreaking brand. 💯 🔥
I'm so glad I found "Hot Ones" pre-Charlise Theron.
No Camera Guy Bill 😔
What techniques were used for the slow-motion shots in this video?
I'm going to throw a suggestion out there: Paul Maurice, coach of the Florida Panthers. He is a great interview and quick with the one-liners...and as a fan of the Carolina Hurricanes, I'd love to see him sweat under the heat of the Wings of Death. ;)
Seth must have went to the Sean Evans school of hand gestures, with him constantly trying to jedi mind trick the panelists
Corrections Jackal here. Seth said SNL Live. So, Saturday Night Live Live? Unbelievable. Lol
I think he meant watching it live, not SNLL
37:35 Conan
Seth needs to go daydrinking with Sean
Hot Ones is something else...except for that Shane Gillis episode. Release the full cut!
I know Sean doesn't appreciate wings anymore. but back in the 80s and 90s wings blew up around the country. Corporate restaurants hadn't figured out how to "cheap-out" the wings yet.
Yes Sean, Keanu!!!!!
welll...now Sean needs to go day drinking with Seth.
Bring back Josh Brolin!!!!
seeing Sean in a suit feels so strange
Micheal Che had fish sticks? 🤔there's a South Park skit in there somewhere
Sean Won An Emmy For Hot Ones, I Didn't Know The Emmy's Had Anything To Do With TH-cam...🤔
What? No he didn't. He's eligible for a primetime Emmy as of this year.
@@waywardmind Hot Ones Is On TH-cam Correct? 😑
Hot Ones _has_ been shown on TV before IIRC when there was the short-lived Hot Ones game show a few years back, so it technically counts
@@h0lly_blue ohpt I was mistaken carry on I guess 🤷🏽
My wife bought me da bomb for Fathers Day. My reaction was similar to Wayne when Stacy gifts him a gun rack for his birthday. I was like
“Da Bomb? Da bomb. My wife I can barely tolerate hot sauce much less Da Bomb. What am I gonna do with Da Bomb?”
“Eat it?”
I sigh
“You know what husband? If you’re not careful your going to lose me”
I'm reaching out for your prayers and healing energy. Please keep me in your thoughts.
Why is Seth Meyers a thing
tons of hard work, acceptance of failures, talent, and self-confidence
Hot Ones literally stuck a dagger in their own necks with the Will Smith episode.
They probably had guests on who did much worst things in there lives than slapping another rich guy. Stone Cold Steve Austin for example was charged for domestic abuse.
@@andreasn415 Going "What about this person" isn't really a viable excuse. Maybe that works on 4chan but in real life it's not gonna fly.
Right, which is why they totally got cancelled and don’t exist anymore right? Which is why their newest episodes don’t get millions of views right? Which is why they don’t end up getting panel interviewed by Seth Meyers right?
@@Spaceman647 Yeah. Keep talking and making yourself feel better. You're not impressing me or anyone else.
@@Baby0din as opposed to you going "WHAT ABOUT WILL SMITH"? well as a former stubborn toddler myself, I understand your struggle
