I am super impressed with this young man's upbringing, kudos to his parents and his willingness to learn. I am embarrassed that I did not teach my children how to speak Yoruba in the Uk.

There is no shame nor embarrassment here. You were merely ensuring that your children adapted well to life in the UK without any disadvantages. Though having said that Asians do manage to pull of the bilingual dance rather well.

I am a yoruba. I am proud of you being a foreigner who speaks Yoruba so fluently like this. That shows that you value our language. Some Yoruba parents here don't value the language at all. At least, this would make them allow their kids speak more of Yoruba than English especially at home😊👍

There us no better way to endear yourself to a culture and people than through their language. Why? Because learning a language requires effort and commitment and determination. He deserves all the recognition and acknowledgement that he is receiving. He is a wonderful ambassador.

Why don't you like your own language? I'm sure you attend Yoruba parties and wear Yoruba attire and sing Yoruba songs but you want them to be clueless in future. I can't believe this. Children around me make an effort to speak Yoruba though with a British accent and prostrate/kneel to elders even though they haven't been to Nigeria.
