Dude. Absolutely the single BEST video I’ve ever seen of this cruise stop. I was 0% excited about going here, but this turned it around 100%. Incredibly informative, and really love the maps at the beginning. THIS is how videos should be done. Exceptional job!
Thank you! I just wish the weather was nicer for the video. In the morning the weather was amazing. Then when I decided to record the video tour, it started raining.
The one thing I’ve learned for certain after five cruises up there is that the weather in Alaska is unpredictable. As the old saying goes, if you don’t like the weather wait five minutes. I’m doing a sort of B2B and this was the only port that wasn’t repeated. Still very much looking forward to revisiting old favorites and the stunning scenery.
Thank you so much for this- we are goung in September and this info will help us plan our day. Hopefully I'll have some content to add to our channel too. You're close to 1k subs 🤞🏽🤞🏽 hope you reach that. I'm aiming for that but really just got started.🎉
Thank you! Here is a Let’s Cruise video I did on Icy Strait Point. It is part of a six part Alaska cruise series that you might be interested in as well. th-cam.com/video/T8giqYSOP9c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=s4EGzZA-I3122_5H Best of luck with your channel and with your trip to Alaska!
@@richway7977 I had to fight off two Grizily Bears, with my Bowie knife. No, there were no problems on the hike. It was only a mile, mile in a half. (one way)
That's crazy. If I were in that group, my main focus would be on trying to see the bears charging towards me, due to the fact that they needed to have someone with a gun who was supposedly protecting me. 😳
We completely agree and are planning on including prices for everything in the future. As for these prices (to the best of our memory). The zip-line was $130. If you pay for the zip-line, the gondola is free all day. If you just pay for the gondola, it was $50. The snow crab was $30 (1 cluster) and the Dungeness was $33 (2 clusters). I know that is what we had for the crab and the prices might be a dollar or two off. I don't remember how much the chili or soup was. Sorry about that. Thank you for watching.
Oh, and I forgot to mention something you might be interested in. We will be posting a series of videos on an Alaska trip from Vancouver to Deadhorse (Arctic Ocean). The first half of the trip was on Royal Caribbean and stops at Icy Strait Point and several other cruise ports. The second half is all on trains, planes, and vans. We drive down the original Ice Road Truckers route (from the first season). The first video should be out in a few days and there are 6 videos on the cruise half.
We will be sailing on Quantum OTS on 5/20. Unfortunately, our Skagway stop was cancelled and replaced by Icy Strait Point. That is the reason I am trying to gather as much info as possible about this port. I appreciate you taking the time to provide all this information. Wish all the best, stay safe with all your travels and enjoy your next cruise! 👍🙏😀🚢
Ice Strait Point is much better than most people make it out to be on TH-cam. There is a great walk to the town of Hoonah. The port is very clean and the locals are very friendly. When Kat and I got off the cruise ship, I noticed some berries that I thought I recognized. A local worker noticed us looking at them and proceeded to give us a walking berry lecture. It was amazing. She didn’t want anything other than to share her knowledge. We only did the zip line but our friends did an excursion and loved it. We had a lot of fun just walking around. If you have any other questions, let me know and we will do our best to answer them. Have fun on quantum and when you get back, let me know what you thought of ISP.
Too bad the weather prevented you to explore town, witness local master carvers working on totem poles, sharing Tlingit history and culture. Did you notice the heavily carved narrow bench by the wall? Cannery workers’ knives left their marks there long time ago. There is so much more…..
I agree. We had friends on the cruise that didn’t have an early excursion and went into town. They loved it and showed us lots of pictures. Next time we will definitely go. Also bummed that we didn’t notice the bench. Thank you for the great comment.
I was on the Eurodam last May and the ship never docked at Icy and to this day no one can tell me why. I am on a Quantum of the Seas on the 20th and going to try the zip line. Turned 74 today and one only lives once 🥴
Loved the zip rider!!

Agree! I love the narration that is clear and concise while giving a ton of info. ❤
Very informative video clip on ISP… now I’m much prepared what to expect in my August trip, thank you for the job well done👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Have an amazing cruise!!!!
Agree - we will be there in Sept.
The Zip Rider experience was surreal! 🌲➡🌲➡🌲 Have you ever tried it at Icy Strait Point?

I'll be there in June. I hope the paths at the top of the mountain are open.
If they are, let us know how they were. I would have loved to have walked them.
When we were there a year ago, the paths were open, but ONLY in escorted large groups - and the guide at the back of the group was carrying a rifle.

Is that Orca statue by Wyland?
Yes, I believe it is.
I noticed this was posted 8 months ago. Was this posted at the time of your trip?
We went at the end of August last year. We were in Alaska for 3 weeks. 1 week for a cruise and 2 weeks traveling up to and back from the Arctic Ocean.
@@3rdOrbitTravelers Thanks!
Nice video! I just wish you mentioned how much the things you did cost. From your meal to the gondola, to the zip line.

@@3rdOrbitTravelers You are welcome. I visited Hoonah many times on my own after initial cruise. It’s my favorite place.

Happy Birthday. Enjoy the zip line. It was fantastic!!! If you eat seafood, the Crab House was great as well.
