It's about time that I do more than give thumbs up and hit subscribe. I am more than happy to be a Patreon! After a 23 year navy career I picked up a new 1986 Sony Handicam, got on my bike in Utah and headed to Alaska. What followed was was 37 years of bike touring and triathlons. Too many miles on the bike to record but 3 times to Kona for the world championships! I took a lot of videos! Edited some and gave them to those that shared the variety of adventures. I thought that when I was old, now 80, I would live out the rest of my life watching my old videos. I have mild impairment Alzheimers now which makes every old video new again! Actually, not so much! What I enjoy now are watching much younger ones doing things that I have done and some things that were always on my bucket list. Thanks for being among a selected few on TH-cam that carry me away to places and adventures I have known and many that I dreamed of. Cats were always my dream boat. I had a Hobie and a 28 footer. I can say been there, done that to so many of places in so many ways but I refuse to turn a rocking chair to view the past, I prefer to look into the future and join you on the continuing adventure! Thanks for taking me on as virtual crew!
From your Instagram, I love the updates you've made to Nahoa. Ashley and the kids deserve beautiful living quarters for their happiness. Happy Easter 🐇🐣
Always love your updates, the children look wonderful and this haul out looks like it’s gaining smoothly This is you home and Ashley deserves an upgraded galley 😊
Its interesting that just like every car on the planet the jacking points are usually marked on the sills/body, but sail boats dont seem to have lifting points marked on the hull. It would seem like a good idea to paint a few discrete strap markers on the hull above the waterline to guide haulouts for the future?
Actually all manufacturers do in fact mark points on their boats and all owners should know exactly where those points are located on their boat. Usually it's located on a bulkhead that can take the load properly. You usually will NOT see marks are on the hull itself becuase the hull gets repainted frequently as well as anything below the waterline is going to get covered in growth and obscure the mark anyway. IMHO owners should put a witness mark on the hull above the water line, possibly on deck, after every repaint to make it easier to get the exact point for the next haul out. However, rarely have heard of a disaster occurring during a haul-out via a strap lift as most haul-out services understand where to put the straps. My advice is that every owner should know exactly where those points are on their type of boat and mark it themselves becuase invariably you will forget where they are located the next time you haul-out. And I agree it would be a nice gesture by manufacturers to put some sort of permanent indicator on each hull to make it easier to locate the haul-out strap locations.
I'm liking this new remodeling. I can't wait to see the results. Compared to Thailand refitting you guys seem more at ease this time around. I'd say that's a good thing.
Being able to "give and take" makes a good marriage! So glad Ashley gets a little remodel of the galley. Happy wife = happy life!! Thanks for sharing your coming and goings...
Hi guys and yes Ben, many of us know what it feels like to do reno's with our spouses wanting things we don't actually need or want, but it always turns out better than what we intended. And doing that with small children is ....Well, suffice to say "have the little ones, somewhere safe". Really enjoyed the video. Cya latter. Cheers from Nanaimo.
Newsletter is a smart move Ben. The money us always in the list. I love your channel. Its replaced TV for me and given me a goal to self build a cat and get sailing. Thank you for your hard work.
We updated our cabin after 14 years and wow, what a difference it has made in our everyday comforts and pleasure - plus it'll sell a lot better which sounds like what you might be doing. Looking forward to the newsletter.
I have had the boats I raced in Cape Town , hanging off that crane, used to cringe each time, but Bobby ( now retired) used to say our boat was super light compared to what the crane could do. That was 35 years ago.
I always look forward to your next vlog, I am a faithful fan and watcher from the lowland deserts of Arizona U.S.A. living vicariously through you on your adventures. Blessings to you...Love the family...may you have Fair winds and following seas.
Is it just me..or...are there "Pirate Ships" all over the globe?? hahah...Just Love..to see your daughter in the background. The spitting image of the two of you..O' so wonderful..
Joyous Easter. Every boat should have markings showing hoisting or lifting areas. Just like ocean liners have tug/no tug markings. Can't imagine why this is not implemented on new boats or marked on refits.
When I was in Cape Town we were in a ship yard and the workers were competent. It looks like they are doing a good job so far. Up grading the AC is a good idea. Thanks for letting us share in your life.
ads you should never ignore 🤣 watching from HK. I'm a Filipino and I really appreciate every time you help people 🙏🥰 you guys very kind.keep it up.may GOD bless your family..
We saw Nahoa last Sunday, 2 April at Royal Cape Yacht Club! She is beautiful!❤Did not see you and the kids unfortunately. I love the atmosphere at the yacht club. All the different boats.🥰
Cuando dijeron que tenían noticias, me asusté. Creí que venía otro bebé. Qué bueno que escriban. Los felicito. Ustedes, los cuatro, son bravos de verdad. Abrazos.
The newsletter is fantastic thanks. Thanks again for sharing your life and family with us totally makes our week 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️Happy Easter 🐣 🐣🐣🐣🤣🤣🤣🐣
Did I just hear "NEW BOAT"? Nice! Happy Easter and Blessings from my family to your's.🐇🐇 It's been a while so glad to hear that y'all are doing well. :0)
The new floor may have started the remodel but it really was necessary. You're lucky that you wife doesn't complain (on camera anyway) and you know what they say Captain, "Happy wife means a happy life!" Happy Easter from Kelowna BC.
If you planning on buying another Catamaran, you really are in the right country for it. South Africa make awesome ones. (and the bulk heads don't break)
Hi I was in Cape Town until May 2022 and moved to Auckland New Zealand. I am a fan of your vlog and enjoy your sailing around the world. Seeing that you mentioned purchasing a new boat, hopefully it's a trimaran, looks like that's the way forward. Nevertheless the next time you pass NZ it would be good to meetup with fans.
Well it finally stopped snowing here in central BC, now it's going to rain. Snow is kinda going away, but not as fast as I would like. Sure looks comfy where you guys are. Love your channel, wish you fair seas, and a steady breeze. Be safe.
I follow your channel and look forward to new videos each week. I live in CT , please can I come meet you (Oh God, I'm so forward ,,,, ha ha ha). You're living my dream and I have so much respect for your attitude Nd you handle all the obstacles that come your way. Literally you are perhaps 20 minutes away from I live.
3rd That's a heavy boat. If you were lighter than you could sail in much lighter winds. Time for an upgrade into a performance catamaran. Personally, I think that an aluminum catamaran would be the best way to go. I like both of Tim Mumby designs. The Cyber 48 and the Odisea 48. I'll be getting an Odisea 48.
70 liters of water is 70 kg .... but i like the 'over 18 tons, it stops'.... very reasuring especially than they haul out when scale went for calibration
You should go on a tour of the Leopard factory while you here in Cape Town. I could see you guys in a Balance cat. Those are shexy! Who knows, maybe a new boat deal… 😮
Hi have always liked your channel. Manufacturers should put sling marking on every boat? or at least mark your hull permanently after being hauled out. Beats the guy hammering your hull looking for a bulkhead.

I look forward to the first newsletter 🙂 Take care and God bless.
I was just in South Africa (from Texas). Loved it!
Most underrated sailing channel. You guys rock💪💪👏👏 Thanks Ben!
How much effort & cost would it require for a yacht manufacturer to put markings on the hull indicating safe lifting locations???
I have had the boats I raced in Cape Town , hanging off that crane, used to cringe each time, but Bobby ( now retired) used to say our boat was super light compared to what the crane could do.

Whoohoo Nahoa!! 😍 All the best! 🍀
Nothing wrong with loving your living surroundings. Was definitely time. 👍❤️🇨🇦
Yes it was!
Since you guys are doing bottom paint, perhaps you might consider painting on a mark to show the lift points, like a star?
I used to play on that crane as a kid. I lived at RCYC for 8 years
If you planning on buying another Catamaran, you really are in the right country for it. South Africa make awesome ones. (and the bulk heads don't break)
Yup. South africa 2nd biggest sailing cat manufacturer and 1st biggest motor cat manufacturer.

Try the seafood pot pie at the yacht club; it was yummy in 2016 when I was there.
8.34 pounds per gallon of water. I’m sure there is conversion out there somewhere.
A new boat huh, hope she is a fast one . . . OK I subscribed, ya got me.
70 liters of water is 70 kg .... but i like the 'over 18 tons, it stops'.... very reasuring especially than they haul out when scale went for calibration

Guilty tho!
Laughter around the world sounds the same 😂
Enjoying your adventures…

Fair winds ⛵️
It would be nice to paint permanent marks where the straps need to be placed that way they can’t get it wrong. Just a thought.
Water is about 10 lbs for every UK gallon
You guys deserve a new boat
Hi have always liked your channel. Manufacturers should put sling marking on every boat? or at least mark your hull permanently after being hauled out. Beats the guy hammering your hull looking for a bulkhead.
newsletters are great but theyre another responsibilty and commitment
