    Y'all join me in prayer for Cody, protect him, keep all his senses active and alert and guard his mind from outside distraction other than the job at hand. Comfort and protect his family while he's gone. Bring him home safely and your will be done in his life. In HIS name we pray.

    Thanks for bringing us along. Looking pretty good. You had to traverse a bit of steeper terrain to get to the work area, lugging all your "kit" with you. Not for the faint of heart!

    0:51 That's an interesting wedge configuration. What are you trying to accomplish by doing that? Stabilize that trunk?

    • @kbagge1
      @kbagge1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      mikeallenbrown1 The wedges were used to hold a section of log to a stump. Both the stump and log are notched and then the wedges pounded in to hold the two together.

    Just finished s-212 yesterday; who knew I had so many bad habits. It’s incredible how much info they pack into those classes. That was a good idea to use the bole to do multiple face cuts and back cuts to practice. Got to cut with a Stihl 661 with a 32” bar.........it was amazing.

  • @northeasttxpermie4828
    @northeasttxpermie4828 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I bought my first crosscut saw because of you the other day. Not much to speak of really, 6 foot. I think the teeth are fairly worn, no handles. Rusted. But only set me back $35. Now i can say that i have one. ;-P a project to do with the kids later. Clean it up, fashion some temp handles and try it out.

    So I ordered the Teespring shirt and it came with the backwards TH-cam button. I wasn't worried about it but I got a new one in the mail a few days ago (and a refund for the first). Well today I got another one. So now I have 3 identical Wranglerstar shirts...

    What was the reason behind having the wedges in the tree the way they were?

    • @sundrop27
      @sundrop27 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      slipmud84 To me, it looked like the tall part was narrower than the trunk at the base (so, not really part of the stump in the ground) and he made vertically aligned cuts in the separate tall trunk piece and the in the ground piece. Then, put the wedges in to hold the longer (taller) piece to the trunk to practice on. I'll be interested to hear if he comments on those felling techniques he was practicing.

    Hi, interesting video. I am a tree faller and I work in New Zealand. Looking at the video I saw a few things that here would break the NZ safety rules; for example, are you guys allowed to run a saw without earing protective equipments ? Are you allowed to carry the saw with the bar sitting on your shoulder as shown on the video ? I do not want to be critic, it is just curiosity... Thanks. Alex

    Good luck Cody I'm sure you will do great, I can imagine on a course like that its tons of stuff you have done 1000 times before though right? but you have to "go through the motions" just to satisfy the course instructors for the sake of a mark/tick

    I'm sure this was all second nature to you. I hope they were watching and learning. :-P
    I also thought it was interesting the way everyone was carrying their saws. I would have thought that would tend to bend the bar a little. Guess not! :-)

    I'm sorry but that s212 class that you were in was a joke. We fell actual trees for two days straight and they were twisted cedar lol. Try wedging and plunge cutting this with thick canopy. Sorry but from what I saw they only taught y'all enough to get yourself in trouble.

    wranglerstar That acoustic track sounds similar to Courtney Barnett (australian folk/rock musician). Who is it? FYI, this is some of Courtney Barnett's stuff: th-cam.com/video/bcnIhzaDTd0/w-d-xo.html she laces quite a lot of humour through her stuff.

    Is there some sort of specific reason why you guys in the USA leave so long stump? At least here in Finland we always cut our trees with a minimal one.

    • @splitshot37
      @splitshot37 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      elast1c I believe the stumps were left long as a training excercise

    • @kbagge1
      @kbagge1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      elast1c When falling commercial timber, we also cut as low as possible but on Wildland Fires it is common practice to make your cut while in an upright position for safety reasons... faster escape, easier to see your surroundings, etc...
