    I've got a new truck camper. Having a secondary source of power for boondocking would be real nice.
    I've been looking for a portable generator that would have a number of "must / nice to haves" :
    *clean fuel source (I was leaning toward dual-fuel)
    *quiet (there are very few that are truly quiet - just as your campsite neighbors)
    *easy to transport in a slide-in camper (where space is at a premium and the truck cab takes up the slack)
    *light weight (so my wife could unload it before use. So far, only low power gasoline or dual-fuel generators check this box)
    *has a fuel that doesn't stink when it spills (my truck is diesel - carrying gasoline would annoy me; until now dual-fuel gets the choice)
    WELL ..... I am pretty sure I can quit looking at the gas powered generators. This one charges while I drive and tops up with solar panels. Jerry has just shown how I can use this 'prudently' as a secondary source to make our life on the road, in the woods, at Walmart, etc. more enjoyable. And ... the AC unit in my camper only draws 900 watts. This Oupes looks perfect.
    Great real world video !! Thanks Jerry !!

      Thanks so much. These are very nice units. Our son lives in Daytona Beach and uses one for emergency power during storms. Great to hear this was a good solution for your travels.

      @@iLoveRVlife Haven't got it yet but I'm not going to look much more at the gas powered generators !!

    I went the expensive route, a large lithium battery bank and large Victron Multiplus II 3000/12 inverter in my fifth wheel. But the point is the same, a quality lithium battery and inverter (which is what the device you demo’s is), is a game changer for RVers. Definitely something all can use. Just a matter of determining one’s budget and needs to decide the best solution for them.

    I recently discovered your TH-cam channel and like your enthusiasm and honesty. Thanks for taking the time and effort to help the RV community. This power station looks like a winner. To add, I'm pretty sure that while the overhead lights run on 12V battery when you are unplugged, once you plug into shore power (or the Oupes, in this case) they switch over and are powered by the shore power system. I have had the battery disconnected from our camper and they worked once the camper was plugged in. If yours is the same it would mean that the Oupes was powering all of your tests PLUS the ceiling lights. Even more impressive!

      Hi Henry. Thanks so much and glad you found us. Most RVs, ours included, have two electrical systems - a 120V AC and 12V DC. There isn’t a switch over for the two. When the RV is plugged into campground power, there is a converter/charger that powers the 12V DC system. Even if plugged in the campground power and depending on the converter/charger set up, most RVs will pull from the batteries and the charger will kick in for time to time to keeps the batteries charged. This maybe the reference to the switch over. Just a note, in the video I show the unit plugged in with no load. Wattage draw Is insufficient. You bring up a good point. Even using 12V DC lights, furnace, etc., there could be a time when the converter/charger will kick in. Thanks a bunch from the good comment.

    Got mine a month ago and I use it everyday for construction. It stays in my truck on the backseat. It charges all of my DeWalt batteries and runs 2 40 watt led work lights. At lunch I plug in a 1100 watt toaster oven to heat up lunch for about 15 or 20 minutes. I took it boondocking with my pickup camper. After 3 days I drained my house battery. I used an adapter to connect it to the camper to recharge. I also used it to charge the trolling motor batteries in the boat. We went to leave after 3 days and the truck battery was dead. I connected a battery charger to it and charged it up. I ordered the 1800 after watching you not getting the Keurig to work with the 1200. Love my Keurig but starting the generator at 6in the morning was annoying. I'm installing an ez start on my ac unit. It will run it easily. I hate having to start the generator when we stop for lunch. I'm ordering 2, 100 watt solar panels for it. Thanks for your videos.

    Although this is a test of an 1800 I think you called it an 1100 several times! Also you called the extension a 10 amp cord, did you mean 10 gauge? I wish it had a flat top (that handle would get in the way!

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did a video on the 1100 and made a mistake on the extension cord. You’re correct. 1800 and 10 gauge. Apologies for the error.

    That's a fantastic unit but I will stick with my built in 5500 onan generator witch is a very quiet unit that runs on LP. I can run just about everything with no worries 👍. Great review on it Jerry 👏

    Hmm. Interesting. Great for oupes but I’d go the route of upsizing the RV inverter and adding in more batteries or converting to lithium batteries. I did notice the voltage dip on the watt meter to 108V 25:53 some appliances will shut down at that voltage level. Curious what the voltage was when the air conditioner was running, anything lower than 110V you run the risk of burning up the windings in the compressor.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great point Max. This would have been a good point I should have shared in the video. There is some minor voltage sag for the heavy wattage loads. I checked the voltage specs for the Airxcel Coleman models and a normal operating range of 103.5 to 126VAC. I looked back at the raw video and we were at 108.5 VAC at the lowest point. With any of these alternative power projects, it’s good to investigate operating ranges for appliances to,be used. Thanks for the comment.

      It’s a simple set up. I need a little extra room, but haven’t found something with more drawers that fit in the space. I also have two of those mid size zipper tool bags, one for drill another for small tools. Have a few ideas to update. Still looking.

      I have a idea of what I want to do. I hadn't given any thought to the tool bags, that's another good idea. I like the drawers in the tool box but I see harbor freight has these nice tool strips that are magnetic.
