I’m a 2nd year tax accountant at PwC, I’m 24 and while money is good, the job itself can be mind numbing at times and the workload never ends. I’m just using this job to fund my Pilot school training cause god knows I can’t do this until I’m 65. My advice, if you’re only motivated by job security and money; then accounting is for you.

It depends... I have 9 years as accountant for some multinationals. Yes, at the beginning could be boring, but some time later when you seee different cases, it will be interesting. When you feel that work is boring you need to change job an take something more challenger. Talk to your manager. You can get new tasks within the firm.

Honestly becoming a chartered accountant was the worst decision of my life. My parents' generation always said - "If you're an accountant you can then do anything." I qualified as an accountant - dragging myself through three years of big 4 purgatory. At the end, I was able to make my parents proud by qualifying. But then I found that every job I would be offered would (duh) be related to accountancy. There was not one facet of accountancy that I ever wanted to continue with - not auditing, not tax, not financial reporting, not financial analysis. I found it all so painful. And I found it wasn't a particularly helpful or well respected foundation for other business activities either. I would say if you REALLY PARTICULARLY want to be an accountant - GO FOR IT. Otherwise give it a really wide berth. I subsequently qualified as a pilot but wished I had done that fifteen years earlier.

@@jinie9109 accounting is a valuable skill and great knowledge. If you can get into a top audit/accounting firm like big 4, you are extremely employable. So you work there for a few years up to manager level and then you can get hired by a big finance firm. Then you can soon become director at a smaller firm and make plenty. If you stay in accounting, you are likely to always be a finance manager or audit partner and you work super hard, but not for as much money. And it's not as interesting. The other path is to do a masters in finance or something and start junior at a financial firm and work your way up from there. Both are good!

      Some brief points:
There are different types of accountants
      1) Financial Accountant
      2) Management Accountant
      3) Tax Accountant
      4) Auditor / Forensic
      5) Bookkeeping / Cash Control
They all are based on numbers but how you present them and explain them differ. Also, you don't need advanced maths knowledge, but perhaps an interest in numbers rather than words is key.

Combine accounting with finance, and understand corporate law as best as you can, yes working in senior position at a big 4 firm is no picnic admittedly, hours are long at times, lots of demanding clients, fair bit of traveling, it can put a strain on those with a family, but there are so many fields you can branch off into, from simple bookkeeping to chief financial officer, or investment banker. Maths is needed to some level, but patience and a keen eye for details are just important especially in Auditing, working for an individual company rather than a firm with multiple clients is easier by far, but it's not a career you stop learning new things, laws change, business changes, you got to keep up with everything that affects the organization or individuals you work for

Cool vid 👍, Qualified Chartered Certified Accountant here (ACCA) - 5 years post qual with 12 years experience
I would personally say it’s boring profession overall. However, there are some interesting areas within this broad field that can be interesting to different people
First there’s if you work in practice or industry. In industry, once you get past the entry level roles like assistant accountant / ledger clerk etc your career can open up into the following types of accounting:
    - Financial & Management Accounting
    - Financial Systems & Reporting
    - Commercial (inc. Pricing)
    - F,P&A
    - Treasury
    - Finance Business Partnering
    - Financial Modelling
    - Tax Specialists
    - Forensic & Fraud Prevention
Each individual will be attracted to their own area that best suits them, personally I fit into the financial modelling category & I find that particular area to be really interesting 😁... wouldn’t go anywhere your typical “financial accounting” role though
