The highest compliment I can give these shots is that, when watching the movie, I had NO idea that most of the shots of Mr. Schwarzenegger were digital re-creations of him. I knew there had to be some kind of CGI enhancement, but I wasn't expecting this much. The same goes for Grace coming down the ladder into the hanger; I had thought she was CGI only when she let go and flew towards the crates! Creating a 100% believable CGI human is the hardest effect to pull off, and 'Fate' has some of the best ones I've ever seen, with the shot of Schwarzenegger hammering the Rev 9 in the face being THE best. Outstanding work.
Absolutely extraordinary work. So much of this, especially close up shots of the characters, is CGI, that I never would have guessed. I'm thoroughly impressed. Fantastic looking movie.
The Rev-9 was a wonderfully relentless, unsettling presence in the movie. It's fascinating to see just how detailed and disturbingly realised each isolated aspect of his bio-mechanical transformations are. This breakdown also serves to excellently illustrate the necessary role VFX serves not only in smart visual storytelling but also in assisting the edit, blending takes, solving problems and creating new possibilities.
We completely agree! That's exactly what we try to do with our creative partners - not just assist in storytelling and creating shots, but also helping to solve problems. We love working closely with them to bring their ideas to the screen.
@@DigitalDomainDD Well the movie definitely reflects that. The final shot of Grace moving from the cockpit to the stairwell and into free-fall sets a high benchmark for naturalistic shot transitions. Did teaming up with a director who was himself previously a VFX supervisor afford you the kind of short-hand, simpatico relationship that I imagine would be the case?
jamiebellwolf actually, now that I’m thinking It wasn’t bad after all, people got mad because there was woman as protagonist , I don’t kwon you guys but I think Mackenzie Davis is hot!
Wow .. DD you guys are awesome .. I heard u guys used Houdini for most of your works .. the liquid kinda stuff that really cool . Is that done in Houdini ?? Kudos to the DD team .. big fan of your work .. love from India
Do you ever use Autodesk Maya when making these shots? I ask, because I hardly ever see it anywhere yet its considered to be an industry-standard software.
Surprising how much CG was actually used in the movie. Overall I thought it was overdone but necessary for the director's vision. Job well done for that at least, though there are enough times when the CG is obvious on the face.
@@johnboko7110 Well, Blur made only "future war" segment in whole movie. There was a lot of VFX companies working on this movie and we didn't know exactly who was doing what.
@@qnebra It was 100 different companies involved Blur did the future sequence and plenty of other visual effects in many scenes besides Adobe, ILM etc and you and I aren't sure about who create CG in what parts in the film.

ILM and Digital Domain are Incredible in their Work
In my opinion this is the most complex and advanced CGI work in entire cinema history ever! 👏👏👏

Stan Winston would be proud of what this company has become, as always great work!
A nice touch of using T2 soundtrack for this video.
It didn't deserve it
It’s actually Man of Steel’s
I like the tiny detail of sparks when they are fighting with the metal
excellent use of MOS playbook soundtracks

The elements passes sliding and the music, holy fuck, I'm almost crying
You can't tell the difference between CGI and real people . This is called "Master level of VFX" .
Hamid ThePhysicist this movie was on the consideration oscars for visual effects
jamiebellwolf the writing was shit....but hey the direction was really awesome, I’m exciting to kwon what will be Tim Miller Next Project

God, I just keep looking at the cube!

Holy crap the amount of full-body replacements for this film is ridiculous.
I know and it wasn't even good it was very noticeably trash
In Terminator 2, the special effects were more realistic
Can't blame you guys for the awful effects gotta blame Tim more for that with his department Blur Studios
But Blur too create amazing CGI in that "future war" scene. Every VFX crew do great job in Dark Fate.
@@qnebra Only the environmental objects yes as for the Rev-9 and certain destruction bits it looked awful.

better than the actual movie.
So basically 90% of mackenzie davis in this movie is CG.... My whole life has been a lie.
I'll assume Sarah is going to become a terminator against herself at this point
