  • Een slagje lijn 20 van Station Den Haag Centraal naar Duinzigt en terug gefilmd uit een iets andere hoek. Tijdens het maken van deze video rijden we een omleiding tussen de Oostduinlaan en eindpunt Theo Mann Bouwmeesterlaan.
    De video is gemaakt op dinsdag 11 februari 2020 vanuit de HTM 1112, een MAN Lion's City CNG (EEV).

    Fijn om te zien.
    Ik heb net de eerste paar uurtjes busrijles gehad en dit kijken helpt me om de juiste stuulijnen beter in te kunnen schatten.
    Bedankt.

    My european friends, what's the main purpose of those "speed bumps" seen at 10:20??

    • @hendrikvandam1910
      @hendrikvandam1910 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      These are no speed bumps, but small blockades for cars. Buses are wide and high enough that they can drive over it but cars can't. This is done to stop people from taking shortcuts though small streets past houses. Greetings from another HTM driver ;)

      @@hendrikvandam1910 I think everyone kind of knows what a bus-sluice is ;) .
      This one is passive. There are also active ones (pollards) that either let a pillar (or more) drop into the ground when a bus comes near, or have a nice, sharp pointed pyramid that moves up and down like in my city. Especially the pyramids in my city are known to rip up the cars of those who try to pass over them behind a bus...

    Usually like these videos, but can't see too much of the houses.

      Then you need to do a search for house videos. This is a bus driver video. You're at the wrong place.

    One other question: how's the accident/incident rate of these bike lanes between the parked cars and the road? I live in Brazil and I'm used to a pretty crazy dynamic on the road, from both drivers, cyclists and even pedestrians, zero respect from either side, so kinda cringe everytime I see the bus having to cross the bike lane at the stops or when the cyclists are blasting thru intersections etc.

      Most likely really low. Because many Dutch people both drive cars and cycle, motorists know they have to watch out for cyclists when parking and exiting the vehicle afterwards, just like the busdriver knows about the cyclists. My experience though is that not every busdriver is as respectful and sometimes starts dangerous close overtakes. A lot of personal experiences close to Amsterdam have made me far more cautious around buses.
      Learning drivers are taught about this in driving school in The Netherlands: if you park your car and want to exit the vehicle, you first check your rear view mirror, than your lefthand side mirror and than you turn your head to check your blind spot. If everything is clear, you open the door to get out swiftly. Keeping your door open for longer than necessary can probably attract a fixed penalty, but it at least is mentioned as causing a nuisance: if a cyclist hits a door that just got opened in front of him, the person that opened the door is liable and has to pay for the damage and possible injuries to the cyclist as the cyclist can not be expected to avoid such an accident ánd will usually suffer far worse consequences than the motorist. When the door was opened for such a long time that the person cycling should have avoided it, it's a different story, but it's up to the motorist to prove that, which - basically - falls back to the opened door being a nuisance, as the law states the door should only be opened for as long as it takes to board the car.
      Some people even say opening the door is preferably done with the right hand, as this automatically makes you turn your head to the left to check for possible cyclists.
      On the other hand, cyclists are cautious for this problem. A car with his lights on in the parking spot, or a car with a running engine in the parking spot, a car that has just got into the parking spot or with an open passenger door is (for me and many other) a sign to be extra cautious, as you never know what the driver will do and is paying attention.
      Cyclists that bust through junctions are a different story: there are people who are very cautious when they do that (they basically state: I'm the one jumping a red light, so I should be extra cautious not to get hit) but there are also people who consider themselves to be invincible and just go no matter what.
      But just like Amsterdam, where that's even more common, in The Hague drivers know they have to be cautious of such silly cyclists. Take it a bit slower here and there and use all those beautiful mirrors thoroughly. Also don't forget to look around all the obstructions between the windows by moving your head in all directions at junctions and such and you'll most likely be fine.
