hello aghases here's a commentary from an actual fencer! first off the rules: you want to get to 15 points and you can hit everywhere on the upper body. this is a saber game so it's very fast. if your light lights up, it means you hit him. it's your point! then there's priorities. if they both touch at the same time, priorities set who has the point! for example for the first point, bazadze got the point because he started walking first, the attack was his, so it's his point. if however one attacks but the other stops his saber and they both hit, the second one gets the point because he stopped the attack! there's also some more rules, like no turning back on the opponent, no crossing your legs etc etc but with these ones you can understand it enough. jackson's a really good player! i find him a bit too loud and disrespectful towards the referee but i figure he was tired or trying to make up some time to figure out his tactics! it's funny to see how he took such a turn in his career :)

If anyone is wondering about why they both scream and cheer whether or not they get the point it's because it's a technique taught in a lot of fencing clubs to intimidate the refs, the confidence and dominance make the ref want to agree with the fencer and (theoretically) make the ref award the point to the fencer who cheered in an unclear scoring (like if it is unclear if it is a successful parry (block) or an unsuccessful beat (attack on the upper blade as a distraction). I fenced saber for about 9 years when I was young (nowhere near as well as either of them lol) and a lot of competitive male saberists especially emphasize dominance, badgering the ref and cheering more than fencers of other swords typically. I think its cool that so many fans can see his on-stage persona in his on-strip persona as well!

To everyone saying he shouldn't have quit fencing (i actually agree XD) But he revealed on a show recently that since he was young he wanted to become a singer/dancer and when he saw JYP having some recruiting thing he told his dad that he wanted to try out the recruiting thing (sry i forgot what he called it) His dad told him if he got #1 in Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing then he'll let him try out which he did and got into JYP. So his main goal was singing is all im trying to emphasize. But tbh i only like him from the kpop industry atm XD So if he went fencing i'd follow him and leave kpop (im not that into kpop anyways xD)

At World championship levels fencers make quite a healthy income from the circuit and endorsement (think USD 100K+). Plus unlike many other sports Fencing age threshold isn't low, so if you are good professionally you can fence upto even 40+.
Fencing is really popular. I used to follow it religiously a few years ago. I remember when I first saw Jackson in a got7 music video and I was like I know that guy from somewhere. and when I found out that his last name is wang I almost screamed. He wasn't one of my favourites but I enjoyed watching him.

Being a rapper is always his dream. He said he wanna be a rapper since he was young. Yea, he loves fencing but he loves music, too. It's a really good chance for him to get in JYP, which is one of the best entertainment company in Korea. "I think you can have two dreams in life but you only live once." He said in a TV show. I guest what he think is he had already become the best youth fencing athlete in Asia and it's time for him to achieve another dream. Coz if he didn't make that choice, he may never achieve the dream of being a rapper. As a hongkonger, I am so proud of him for being such a good athlete and such an amazing Kpop star, I think he is still brightening our country but just in another way. And I really respect him for having the courage to climb another mountain in his life. It should be a very difficult decision for him. Don’t get me wrong I love Jackson and his technique was great but it is completely unrealistic that he would be number one by now (he was number 199 2009/2010 back then), if u look at the current top ten (especially Oh sang uk or Aaron Szilagyi) it’s a completely different world compared to this bout. He is/was pretty good but many good juniors get bodied by seniors, since senior Fencing is even more faster and competitive and Hong kong was never known for its Sabre Fencers. Bazadze wasn’t that outstanding back then, but now he is a completely different fencer compared to 2010 (dude is very aggressive and hot tempered).

I'll just say this once, though I hope such thing won't happen, but every time I see him doing fencing, deep inside I hope he'll quit being an idol and pursue fencing. This is not 2021, but 2012, the fencing Olympics in Azerbaijan🇦🇿🔥 were held in the Palace of Hand Games, the capital of Baku. Got7 didn't exist back then.

Being a rapper is always his dream. He said he wanna be a rapper since he was young. Yea, he loves fencing but he loves music, too. It's a really good chance for him to get in JYP, which is one of the best entertainment company in Korea. "I think you can have two dreams in life but you only live once." He said in a TV show. I guest what he think is he had already become the best youth fencing athlete in Asia and it's time for him to achieve another dream. Coz if he didn't make that choice, he may never achieve the dream of being a rapper. As a hongkonger, I am so proud of him for being such a good athlete and such an amazing Kpop star, I think he is still brightening our country but just in another way. And I really respect him for having the courage to climb another mountain in his life. It should be a very difficult decision for him. He's so brave coz he is actually betting his fencing dream for another dream. If he cannot debut successfully, he will lose both dreams.

Don’t get me wrong I love Jackson and his technique was great but it is completely unrealistic that he would be number one by now (he was number 199 2009/2010 back then), if u look at the current top ten (especially Oh sang uk or Aaron Szilagyi) it’s a completely different world compared to this bout. He is/was pretty good but many good juniors get bodied by seniors, since senior Fencing is even more faster and competitive and Hong kong was never known for its Sabre Fencers. Bazadze wasn’t that outstanding back then, but now he is a completely different fencer compared to 2010 (dude is very aggressive and hot tempered).
