Eli has really came around this year, as far as, addressing the fans, press ect ect, really good guy, that's pretty honest and open on what's happening, and that face when asked about RD was epic, you can clearly see the respect 🙏 🤙
The kind of honesty you see with this dude is very rare. We all know what this guy is capable of and the insane speed he has unleashed at times throughout his career. For a rider of his caliber to get a 7th and a 4th to say "it wasn't the knee", not imply it was the bike setup, or rattle off any kind of excuse, is a sign of true integrity. You almost never see that. Some riders rattle off whatever excuse they can even with a good result just to say "I'm even better than this, so I'm letting you know that". Some will mention something that hindered them even after a win, so you know they could have won with a bigger gap. Any legit injury/excuse and they make sure any time a mic is there, they mention it so that no one thinks that they are 100 percent and that was all they could do. Tomac just tells it truthfully and even when he has something wrong like this knee thing, if it didn't actually hinder him, he won't say it did. He will even tell you it wasn't a factor. Cairoli, Herlings, Roczen, Ferrandis, and others I could list are always making sure to spit out everything that hindered them and you don't know if it did or not or how much. They also make sure to get excuses out there before they race in case they do bad or don't get to spit them out afterwards. Some will say "I was glad to get the win" or "and then I was able to get into the lead" or "managed to get the win" while always including the gap they won by if it was substantial. Or....make sure you know what happened early on and the number of riders they had to come through. So you.dont think it was just a win and not realize how badass they really are. Herlings is a textbook example and Cairoli is similar. I hate saying that but it's true as f. Tomac is totally different. He will just say he was glad to be able to get the win even if he passed 40 riders and gapped 2nd place by 45 seconds. If he straight up gets a 10th, he owns it. I wouldn't be surprised if the knee actually hindered him. The dude is a badass and straight up.
@ 68 I wonder how much of the excuse-stance from a lot of riders is aimed toward their sponsors: ''I can still rock man, just have these things come up, don't drop me..'' .
You gotta figure he rode a little bit in protection mode with that torn MCL despite his knee being at 90%. When I tore mine it took me 4 or 5 months before I felt comfortable back on a bike during a moto.
Eli is a Great Champion of our Sport! Hope he gets up to speed and takes another Outdoors Championship, I would never count him out ! 👍 ET 3 is the MAN !
Glad to hear it was only arm pump in that first moto. 2nd moto he started to show that Tomac late-race charge, which was also good to see. Gonna be at Thunder Valley, and I'm hoping he has a great race here. It's been awhile since he's done well here.
I totally agree. Do you remember what happened at the first Supercross race? He was off of the pace, but then he got things dialed in and was unstoppable.
Glad to see that the comments aren't saying, " it's those dam Yamaha's they are so hard to ride" I think every manufacturer has its up and downs like this brand does good one week and another does good the next an so on.
I liked the wry smile... I get the feeling he knows he can go much faster and if his bad day was a 4th... look out... Moto 1 looked like set up to me - but he confirmed arm pump - maybe too much farm work ont he ranch again this last week hammering in fence posts...
Yes I to remember when that happened, got a hole shot then started falling back people passing him that never had before, come to find out he had blown out his arm strength pounding in T-post, and said classic tail of a motocross racer trying to be a rancher lol
Well if that was a crap first round like SX.... and the knee is good... Look out Kenny / Chase... I am still backing Tomac for his 4th.... I know he got a bit smoked this weekend but when i look at some of the rounds coming up I'm like he's going to flick the Beast Mode button.
It is something hearing Eli let us know what happened. He admits to failing at another opening round. The opening rounds are not good for him that is for sure. And that guys at that level can still get arm pump seems puzzling.
@@somethingelse4846 Eli was nervous? I doubt that. I think he tried to sprint with Kenny and that messed him up. He did it before in that scenario. Plus, his knee is still messing with his mind I am sure.
It’s all in the mind I’m 51 and when I get injured it definitely takes longer to heal but as far as my strength my reflexes my conditioning I can hang with any 20-year-old on this planet Lazy losers used age as an excuse so nobody would see them start to fail
They need a change!!! Seriously, there’s too many good riders to not have SX/MX only teams. If a rider chooses to do both, then that’s their choice. But if they only want MX then don’t push them for SX. If it’s SX, don’t push them for MX. These guys need a break! If they don’t want to do that, then have an every other year even. MX one year and SX the next. But it’s causing too many good riders to leave too early and others to never make it. I get some will disagree with me, but man, these guys really are at the mercy of the industry. It’s do for sponsors, eat very strict, work out, work out, work out. Practice, test and race. Where do they have time to be human? And as far as pay, put them up against other sports. They chose this sport because they loved to race, but the industry is sucking that out of them. So I get it.
Was waiting for him to try to run Dungey off tge track again like the cheating backstabbing he really is. I wish they punished riders for unsportsmanlike conduct but no...... thing is we all reap what we sow in the end. Great to see Dungey racing and come in 5th!!
Why is it 30 and you're done, though? I understand moto is one of the most taxing on the body. You see other professionals in sports going into the mid to late 30's. Attribute it to running backs in american football. Just get the daylight beat out of you one too many times??
That's actually really embarrassing and a bad look for the sport lol.. all other sports you play tell your hurt or you suck , these guys just give up sometimes but it's a hard job forsure just don't give up Eli your better then everyone else for the most part

Well said!
Can't wait to see Eli at Thunder Valley !! My all time favorite!!!!!
My wife and I will be there, Supercross was epic.
Never saw Eli talk so candidly and honestly before. Nice to hear his thoughts.
It is so easy to cheer for Tomac.

worded it perfectly I don't feel like he gets quite the respect that he deserves for this
and you know ... Randall knows best .. bet youre a Trump fanboy , no doubt

Props on getting the interview every one wanted to hear!!!
Just an honest to goodness great soul! So humble wise and fast!
Thanks for this interview!
Haven't seen Eli smirk like that ever, he's got some aces up his sleeve he can't wait to show us!
You gotta figure he rode a little bit in protection mode with that torn MCL despite his knee being at 90%. When I tore mine it took me 4 or 5 months before I felt comfortable back on a bike during a moto.
He just showed it in moto 2 at hangtown!
One my all time favorite riders, from watching him on the 250s to now has been an awesome ride
Eli is a Great Champion of our Sport! Hope he gets up to speed and takes another Outdoors Championship, I would never count him out ! 👍 ET 3 is the MAN !
Nice to see the honesty about the bikes not where he wants it, I hate it when all you hear is no the bike is great blah blah blah.
The dude finished 4th overall on the day, he will be fine. He finished 6th at Anaheim 1 and look what happened during supercross
That is why he IS one of the all time greats. It’s great to be a fan of his. 11 more rounds…
Made my day!!! I thought the knee was an issue, glad to find out it was only arm pump. Eli = CHAMP!!! Love this guy.
ET3 good luck hope to see you at REDBUUUUD!!!!!#RIPIT
Classic Eli. Cool, Calm…
I have faith.. ET3 always starts a bit slow. Not gonna worry bout round 1. Still had a lot of positives like the starts and 2nd moto.
He typically starts a little slow, but with Eli it's not really anything to worry about, agree 💯🤙
Also I can't think of a more non Tomac track then Fox Raceway. Southwick, Millville and Redbud those og tracks he'll be nasty.
@@zumptt 💯 🤙
@@zumptt yea sucks they’ve nerded hang town so bad who knows how he’s gonna do there
Roczen is like the opposite, starts season well and fades
Such an awesome guy.#3 life.
He looks happy
Let’s gooo Champ
good interview.
Been watching Eli for a long time. Some amazing riding over the last few years. He works hard.
Once his bike setup is dialed it won’t matter where he starts he’ll get to 1st
That's a wise expression Eli had!

Mad props for his respect he put on Dungey's name and performance.
Great to see Eli back on the top step in moto. There's not a better guy in the pro ranks!
Eli has had a lot going on, he's gonna be just fine. He'll figure it out
I totally agree. Do you remember what happened at the first Supercross race? He was off of the pace, but then he got things dialed in and was unstoppable.
Keep ya head up Eli!
Awesome discussion! Thanks for sharing
All three great interviews, good job guy’s
Glad to see that the comments aren't saying, " it's those dam Yamaha's they are so hard to ride" I think every manufacturer has its up and downs like this brand does good one week and another does good the next an so on.
Well it’s obviously not those damn Yamahas since Craig got 3rd in both motos
A1 Tomac was 6th.. once he gets that set up dialled combine that with his start improvement the Tomac show will be back on.
I don't think the knee is cool yet or the bike setup. Not worried tho. Hes become smarter as hes aged. It shows.
Great interview!
Great rider, great person. 👏👍

Bog fan of eli tomac. He will win like supercross.
I think they moved the first round away from Hangtown because he was usually so good there even though he doesn't really like that track either.
homie is definitely fried
Never seen Eli speak so much💪😂
There needs to be more emphasis on Mental Health in the industry. PERIOD.
Tomac is right. 27 is too young to retire. So many guys have said they were just mentally tired of the grind at the end.
He will be fine, I would be worried if he started the season 1 | 1.

Good job
Star got the juice.
If you think Dungey being competitive is crazy, you should learn about Graham Jarvis...
Take it easy Eli
Stay safe your health is #1 because you are #1
There's 50 years of work My bike is so rider friendly
He’s playing down the knee injury imo. Pulled his feet off the pegs a lot in the deep ruts. Just my two cents.
Glad the knee was not an issue!
Yea, he’s never good at round 1. Except for the time he was 6 seconds faster a lap and won by 2 minutes
It’s all in the mind

Graham Jarvis is perfect example, keeps pace with the top in the hardest mx sport there is
At 63 I can tell you, that's a fact. I'm glad to hear someone else tell it like it is! Hard training works at any age.
thats why dungey is called diesel

gotta love that clickbait title but whatever
Mate its in the video you probs watched 20 seconds and didnt hear what you wanted to lol
It's what we discuss with him in regards to Dungey's return.
He might need a couple NO- DOZE. His eyes are closed 🤣

He looks old in this video.

You can tell Tomac doesn’t have any love for Dungy
That's not the impression we got in person. We got the vibe of some major mutual respect.
Yeah but Respect and love are different things, obviously you respect your competitors but you dont love or admire them...
I thought he showed great respect and admiration. Love is for your wife and kids.
