Lance Armstrong rode a Litespeed frame that was painted as a Caloi for a TT in the tour. To say that Lance didn't use a Merckx in 92, 93, 96 and some other years would be wrong. He rode many bikes but during those years above he was usually on the Motorola Merckx, usually a MX Leader. Often for time trials, something special is used because of the aerodynamics.
I've never understood the snobbery shown by those with Lycra and those with denim and flatbars. No disc brakes or drop bars will keep me out of that club. My club in the 70's had Olympians, State Champions and Silver Star awardees from VietNam, mostly gone now, but they are still with me today in memory. The Lycra carbon disc boys just can't see them.
