Tax-related identity theft occurs when someone uses your stolen personal information, including your Social Security number, to file a tax return claiming a fraudulent refund.
If you suspect you are a victim of identity theft, continue to pay your taxes and file your tax return, even if you must file a paper return.
Know the Signs of Identity Theft
You may not know you’re a victim of identity theft until you’re notified by the IRS of a possible issue with your return.
Signs of Possible Identity Theft
1. You receive a false 1099-G for Unemployment Benefits Claimed
2. You get a letter from the IRS inquiring about a suspicious tax return that you did not file.
3. You can’t e-file your tax return because of a duplicate Social Security number.
4. You get a tax transcript in the mail that you did not request.
5. You get an IRS notice that an online account has been created in your name.
6. You get an IRS notice that your existing online account has been accessed or disabled when you took no action.
7. You get an IRS notice that you owe additional tax or refund offset, or that you have had collection actions taken against you for a year you did not file a tax return.
8. IRS records indicate you received wages or other income from an employer you didn’t work for.

If someone claimed my child with out my consent. When filling out the theft affidavit. Who name do I put on section 3 for victim. Me or my son?

Hi under the section: City (Last file d taxes return) do I write the address of when I last lived when of the last file tax filled or do i down write the city of where my taxpayer filled it?
So do we send it to those address regardless of the box checked?

I have equal shared custody of my child. Our court order indicates 50/50, however, I usually keep him more through the year.
Child’s other parent makes less than I do AGI, I pay child support to them.
The other parent claimed my dependent and filed, preventing me from filing.

Because someone elese working under your info and they more then likely opted out of paying taxes during the year by saying they have multiple dependant

The father of my child claimed her without my consent. Is that still considered fraud theft if he is the father? The child has been living with me more and I have documents for proof.
Hell nah that’s his child as well so he has the right to file tf wrong with people smh
@@bahamaboytv6024 well my kids father did the same and he did not asked me and reviving everything and not giving nothing to me for his kids and that's wrong of a father to do that it's certain reason why that's not right for some fathers to do that especially when that father dont help with nothing and I'm the only one that's taking care of the kids since birth

My husband went to prison when we was just dating and someone filed his return he stayed with he never got notice or anything because they used a different address for notices just filled the form out for him hope thats easy to prove he was not doing taxes in prison

@@mommychrissy bell naw momma I ain’t paying shit yo been dealing with this since I came home.I was talking with an attorney he say I can we taking them to court it’s easy 70k worth of fraud,Minnesota let someone come into they Offfice and get unemployment it’s like 6 banks he was working he had ID with my info and his face.I told the Lawyer I want DMV bad they issued a ID I told them when you get a new DMV picture your old one picture will show up.They was thirsty to take the case.Im from Chicago so I was 17 when I got locked up just got out last year November.This is a Blessing Momma for me for real it’s like 4 Government Officals I can go after.Told the lawyer the situation he said he gonna take flight here to talk with me,he see like yeah this is a Slam Dunk.
