Do you know your IQ? What is it?

    • @BiblicallyAccurateHoodie

      NO! Unfortunately I do not

i don’t and don’t want to know it bc i don’t need more ways to compare myself to others and fuel my insecurities, not that i think it would be a horribly low number but it’s too human nature to compare ourselves and it seems better to just avoid that, still an interesting episode tho :)

I used to care so much about this in high school and the idea of being smart. Fortunately I no longer feel the need to prove this sort of thing.

I suppose. I had it formally tested at a young age, but it doesn't mean anything except that I'm particularly good at taking standardized tests. It's nothing to brag about.

No. Link the test you took so we can compare

I was "highly gifted" as a kid. I don't know what I am as an adult, but it doesn't matter, because I'm exhausted.

So "highly gifted" from what I have been learning in psychology, neuroscience and behavior, unfortunately has a major downfall, since you get high marks and A's in school your parents don't bother teaching you how to study because they don't need to, because you get "100% on everything", society places this title onto you, so if something becomes hard such as networking or where you need to study. You don't know how because no one taught you, and your mind has grown around this idea of being "gifted" so if you don't live up to that constantly, you view yourself has "not smart, stupid, unintelligent and like everyone else" since the comparisons that you had in school of kids asking for "help" means they weren't smart enough, and that is now conflicting with your situation, but that "gifted" title is still attached to your way of thinking. That's why some "gifted kids" start off as "gifted kids" and later become "special needs kids." This is also why Healthy-Gamer uses a term called the "Gifted Kids, Burnt Out Club."

i'm someone that really has difficulty explaining my thoughts, and sometimes when i want to convey my emotions i look for songs that accurately describe how im feeling and share that with others lol

I do similar things! The amount of times I'll describe the entire plot of a TV show episode just to tell someone I'm sad is wild 😂

YES to the maths talk at 31:57, I can’t count (haha) the amount of times I have said “I have a degree in maths not a degree in arithmetic”

I was unaware i was doing an IQ test for my dyslexia test and she said i had an IQ of 80 and i shouldn't be in higher education. I got an first and into a PhD programme. By her logic, i should be not able to get into university

I had to get an IQ test as part of my audhd+ journey, got a 122, and I'm SO MAD ABOUT IT because I forgot to pay attention for an entire section, which definitely dropped my score. It doesn't mean anything in the real world, but my competitive side was snubbed 😂

IQ has a useless circular definition anyway.
What is IQ? The score you get on an IQ test.
What does an IQ test measure? Your IQ.
I've heard someone describe it very aptly like this: IQ is to intelligence as barometric pressure is to temperature.

intresting talk, i had a conversation a few weeks ago where somebody mentioned that we talk about our brains through technology of this time, like brain=processor/computer, and in the time of setam engines people takled in those sorts of concepts and words

  • @sabinajoh

My dev psych class has some study qs that are big red flags
Like they said “people of lower socioeconomic class have a lower intelligence” when that’s not true at all?? Like correlation does not equal causation?? The tests are made for higher middle class white boys that are like 12. If you don’t fit that standard you will get a lower result

I don't know my iq, but I'm in the 90th percentile for the general ability Index. I took the test while postpartum and with untreated sleep apnea

you should explain what heritability means when it comes to intelligence because it's not what people would think who've never heard it used as a professional term

  • @shortcakelink5332

I scored a 134 last year, but they put me in a room where I was constantly distracted. The man giving me my test was digging in his ears and so I couldnt focus 😭. So I definitely couldve done better, but ofc I dont use the test to define my intelligence.

i understand choosing not to, but would you drop the test you and luke took? i dont and have never put value into this sort of thing (cause well, youve watched [or filmed] the episode) but i think it might be a bit of fun lol

on the margins of IQ being different for men and women, it is supported but easily misconstrued. The difference is males are over-represented at both extreme lows and highs, while females are more clustered towards the center. The net average is the same; males are more of a gamble in many biological domains. Female fetuses are more durable and a better bet to survive famine/epidemic

    • @Mx-Alba
      @Mx-Alba 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Well, most men /are/ missing pretty much an entire chromosome. The Y chromosome really only contains the SRY gene that is supposed to turn the embryo male. What this means is that when there's some defect or deficiency on the X chromosome, most men don't have a "healthy" second one to compensate. So any anomaly in any gene residing on the X chromosome is going to generally be much more pronounced in men than in women.

@@Mx-Alba the crazy thing is how far the health stuff goes. A lot of immune genes are on the X chromosome so women have somewhat lower risk for many infectious diseases throughout their lives. Not even a fully healthy single X can match what two do for immune function

I’m Israeli, and in the Israeli army you need to go through a sort of IQ test called “DAPAR” and it not only tests IQ, it also tests teamwork, math, science et. and it’s one of the parameters that determines the placement in the army. Please no hate comments towards Israel or Palestine 🙏
