You can't forget Di Maria's influence on Argentina going this strong. Often the team completely changes the dynamics when he comes in, he's as important as Messi. But yeah, once both of them retire it'll take a while to win world cups and tournaments of the kind, they may be able to pick up another Copa America at some point in the next few years post Messi, but world cup I think it's done for this generation.

This is the guy that gets compared with Messi so ofc he needs to be held at a higher standard but he has failed so far for even normal standards. If Messi is rested, which would surely happen, then Scaloni has to play the 2nd in command, Di Maria, who is captain Spock if Messi is captain Kirk.
