The funny part to me is that using Live2D models as part of a visual novel or similar is what Live2D was developed for. It's more upfront cost to make Live2D rigs, but you can do so many poses and expressions with them instead of drawing each frame yourself so you can crank out a richer character and acting for games and such. And yet after so many years, people think it's novel when this channel does it as a skit :p
Yeah, I remember BanG Dream! and Neptunia, which came before VTubing, as far as I know. And now that you mention it, Live2D really is quite a cost-efficient medium, huh?
It was created so nerds don’t have to hire amazing artists to create good emoting animation and art for their VN, like Vocaloid composer don’t have to hire singer to sing their song. Raito had to sing Melty Blood’s opening song himself because he had nobody left to turn to and the deadline was approaching. As a tool, Live2D really found new life in the streaming world. I’m so happy for the creator, if I wasn’t wrong, they weren’t successful initially because people don’t really know what to do with it until some visual novel maker actually use it.
