Thing im seeing that stands out....the sheer lack of humanity walking the park. If this was today it would just be a sea of people shoulder to should. Would love to visit Disney with that small of a crowd size.
Another thing I see standing out... the number of trees, especially in the beginning of the video. Now we know where they got the room to build all the new rides!
I remember being here for the 25th anniversary and seeing the castle as a birthday cake like it was in this video. I was 11 then, wow how times flies. Great video of the skyway.
That is a shame that they closed the Skyway. They closed years before I was born, and I would have loved it. But my dad rode it when he was a kid. And that's another shame they closed 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. :-(
Thank you so much for posting this awesome vid. Also, thanks for posting the film from the ground. So nostalgic. My family always had an amazing time riding the Skyway.
dude RockMeRollMe, I was 6 years old too, and went there in 96 remember how cool the castle was and riding the skyway and very vaguely remember seeing the 20,000 Leagus under the sea ride. This video was actually taken on my 6th B-day Nov 19th! thts so cool. Good memories, I cant wait to go back this August!!!
I cant remember if I ever got to ride this but I did go to Disney a few times though only the first year or two that I went was when 20,000 Leagues was still open. MAN i miss that ride
@Nick Durst Seems legit. I figure the Skyliner came from an idea as a way of getting around the resort while simultaneously appeasing guests who pine for the days when the Magic Kingdom had its own skyway.
My girlfriend gave me my first kiss on the Skyway in July 1983. Never forget that or the ride. I really miss it. The best time to ride it was late evening just after sunset. Awesome views of the area.
I was there a month after this for Christmas and rode it then. Kinda weird to think I was there not long after this and that it was over 20 years ago....god I'm old. Even with the ugly pink castle, there is something nostalgic about it for me since that was a fantastic Disney trip for me.
its all one cable.its a turn station.the drive was in fantasyland.the tension was in tomorrowland.the 1st aerial tramway of its type to make a 90 degree turn.built by vonroll ltd bern switzerland.
Strange, My family visited in ‘93 but I can’t remember the gondolas still being there! Maybe my ‘99 trip memories have replaced the ‘93 trip! I don’t think I ever went on the 1000 Leagues ride, my Dad was Claustrophobic! 😝
Skyway’s popularity started to decline, and retiring it was a particularly good idea to make way for expanded restrooms and a transition area between Fantasyland and Liberty Square. Like Plaza Swan Boats, Disney made a good choice by retiring the Skyway.
I figure that's why they now have the Skyliner, basically as a cool new way to get around the resort while simultaneously appeasing guests who pine for the days when the Skyway was in operation: th-cam.com/video/42biogA-RjA/w-d-xo.html
I wonder if WDW sold the ride (without the gondolas) to Busch Gardens Africa in Tampa, FL. The towers look to be the same height and the turn looks to be the same as well and I believe BGA installed theirs shortly after this one closed. I've got a video of BGA's skyride on my TH-cam site and I've always wondered where they got it from.
The Fantasyland station might have been used for character meets before they replaced it, but I don't remember. The entire area was reconfigured for the Tangled tower and restrooms, with the old restrooms by Peter Pan's Flight being converted into the ride's indoor standby queue.
Omg people don’t understand how AMAZING this footage is. Take it in folks. This is the BEST of vintage WDW
Thank you for sharing. Brings back a lot of memories. Wish my kids could experience a few of the attractions from that time period.
I wish I could have ridden 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Now I know why there are complaints over attractions getting replaced. They easily trigger concerns regarding FOMO (fear of missing out).

Thanks for kinda bringing back the skyway to ride thru the Disney magic of TH-cam
Like how I used the words thru the Disney magic huh ?

Totally agree!!! I was fortunate to have been on both attractions and I miss them.
The main reason why the 20thousand leagues sub ride was because it consistently was leaking into the service tunnels that connect under the park.
Luckily for me I saw them because I was born in 1997 two years before this attraction closed
I rode this Skyway and the 20,000 Leagues when I was only 5 in 1993.
good memories with this ride. sad they closed it
I shuddered the moment that pink monstrosity came into view.

I LOVE the Skyway! Especially at WDW! Wish that was still there!
Throwback. Even the 20,000 league under the sea attraction. Takes me back.
The castle was dreadful. I remember stood in horror seeing it x
I really wish they kept this in operation! It's a good thing that the Skyride at Busch Gardens Tampa is still running!
I started my WDW College Program in Jan of 1997, just a few weeks after you recorded this.
I cant remember if I ever got to ride this but I did go to Disney a few times though only the first year or two that I went was when 20,000 Leagues was still open. MAN i miss that ride
Thanks for sharing this video! Another ride long gone from Disney footprints. Seeing 20,000 LUTS sure brings back memories!
It’s funny, my wife and I rode the skyway the first time we visited WDW, next time we went back, it was gone.
We thought we’d imagined it!
Very nice video......Some great rides that are no longer with us.
if you think about it the disney world sky liner is a modern day disney skyway
@Nick Durst Seems legit. I figure the Skyliner came from an idea as a way of getting around the resort while simultaneously appeasing guests who pine for the days when the Magic Kingdom had its own skyway.
LOVED the skyway!

Love this pov of skyway cause its like youre there
Throwback! Thank you for sharing this.

@BusterWebkinz That is because WDW is still celebrating their 25 anniversary. Cinderella Castle was decorated as a birthday cake at that time.
Wow, what a gem... Thank you so much!
I really miss this .
Video about the MK skyway with the last frame centered on another classic ride that's no longer- Mr. Toad.
its all one cable.its a turn station.the drive was in fantasyland.the tension was in tomorrowland.the 1st aerial tramway of its type to make a 90 degree turn.built by vonroll ltd bern switzerland.
vonrollskyway1 do you know what the detaching system and drive through the stations and turn were? Sorry for the 8 year delay!
Cool video. Hated the castle cake. Still miss 20,000 leagues under the sea.
Thanks for posting..:)
Love the castle for the 25th celebration.
Me too
Nice. I never got to ride this ride.
Me neither, but I remember the time when I rode in Six Flags Over Georgia.
very cool history -- thanks for sharing
This video was taken 11 days after I was born. (11/8/96)🙃🙃😂😂
A few rides were down when I went last week
Never went on the 1,000 leagues ride myself since it's called 20,000 leagues
I remember that ride I was there in December 96 I was in the 12 grade
yep, and the area underneath it is stroller parking. such ashame to see that station just sitting there.
From Skyway at MK to The Skyliner today
2:31 wtf happened to the castle? It looks like a massive bounce house
they changed it to look like a giant cake...terrible idea.
Holy cow, I remember this ride at DisneyLand, classic rides. Why did they get rid of this?
Weird to see this old detachable "gondola" system compared to modern high speed gondolas at ski resorts!
Strange, My family visited in ‘93 but I can’t remember the gondolas still being there! Maybe my ‘99 trip memories have replaced the ‘93 trip! I don’t think I ever went on the 1000 Leagues ride, my Dad was Claustrophobic! 😝
Structural issues closed the ride, but every other state fair has one of these that is super sketch. Not fair!

What was in that tent next to Pinocchio Village Haus seen at 2:54? I can't remember what it was.
Adam Rysio: Former location of Ariel's Grotto, which had a meet and greet and water play area.
The little tent was a Kodak kiosk. Ahhhh, disposable cameras.
Why did this have to close down?!?!
drandomvideocritic c
It didn't close down, they put it underground now with pad mounted transformers.
@@joseorduna6270
Nope, because the other ones were closing because EuroDisneyland didn't make bank, causing the parks to get massive budget cuts
@mrkylesfilms1 We plan on going next year I think, whats going on their now? Seartches online seem kinda vauge. . .

@tjoceasde Both awesome rides. I belive there was also one at Kings dominion.
Good thing they’re making a new skyline in WDW now, eh?!
THEY CLOSED THIS AND 20,000 LEAGUES!?!! :( Not good!
my mum told me about theses things she sed they were gud shame there not there now
1996? Why does this video look like 1972?
I can't believe they tore down the fantasyland station to replace it with a meet & greet...
Dankrupt
They didn't replace it with a meet & greet. It was replaced with a restroom (the Rapunzel Castle restroom.)
The Fantasyland station might have been used for character meets before they replaced it, but I don't remember. The entire area was reconfigured for the Tangled tower and restrooms, with the old restrooms by Peter Pan's Flight being converted into the ride's indoor standby queue.
This must’ve taken 3 years before closing thanks the death of the employee
The birthday cake castle
I know why it closed down! because that it was not safe enough!
Plus there is gonna be a safer one and that is good :)
Von Roll 101
Guys what guys...
WE HAVE A BETTER SKYWAY NOW!
"Capacity 4 guests or 700 pounds" that alone tells you this video was taken a long time ago lol, before all the 'muricans became land whales 😂
