    Honestly watching you coach her and seeing how she has developed, has helped me to correct a few of my bad habits. This is a good idea for some of the future vlogs maybe, to show the training, and progress of certain high potential non-Pros. I love watching you climb, but sometimes watching only the best makes me feel like I will never be that good so why try. Being reminded that there was years of training prior is helpful, reminding myself to not be afraid to fall for example.

    High quality video as always :) It's nice to see Cecile's progress , but for me (as a climber) it looks like she definitely needs to complete a lot of easier climbs, get some experience and flow when it comes to rock climbing. No doubts she's really strong physically and I'm sure she can climb her project soon, but in my opinion it would be much better for her climbing to not focus on single climb and just get some meters. I'm sure it would resulted in better memorizing sequences and more smoothly climbing.
    Don't you guys have the same feeling?
    Nice video anyway, all the best for Cecile and you Magnus ;)

    Redpointing and the tactics you use are such a personal thing. Personally I almost never warm up on my project. I find that sending is a practiced skill and picking a warm up that is at the upper end of my onsight ability and cruising it with good rhythm prepares me mentally for my project. Feeling success early in the day sets me up for more success.
    Once I have done all the moves I only get on the project when I'm prepared to give it absolutely everything I have. If I fall then I will work on refining beta.
    A lot of climbers break their projects down into sections and get very excited about links and getting a move further. I've seen it work and I've seen friends completely loose sight of the send by getting caught up in the minutiae. I avoid those tactics at all costs.
    But everyone has their own approach.
    Good luck Cecilie

    I wasn't going to say anything about those first two falls Cecilie took but since she said something! OMG - right?! those falls LOOKED really scary!
    On that note - I abhor when people say what someone should or shouldn't do when climbing. The person on the sharp end always gets to decide what's the best approach for their process. If their process is taking whips or setting up a top rope that is up to them; not whomever is viewing the process.

    • @terraflow__bryanburdo4547
      @terraflow__bryanburdo4547 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this can be a problem with men belaying smaller women due to size difference and protective "instincts". It spirals negatively when she is even more nervous the next go and the belayer unconsciously makes the catch even more tightly. When I belay smaller climbers I jump up to soften the catch.

    • @terraflow__bryanburdo4547
      @terraflow__bryanburdo4547 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not on steep sport climbs. We used to do that, but it got ridiculous to clean routes that overhang 10+ meters! For trad climbing it is still the standard.

    • @joe_3y3s
      @joe_3y3s 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In trad yes, pinkpoint. In sport, just a "send" lol. The draws on steep routes are most often perma-draws, you would need a wrench to take them off!

  • @terraflow__bryanburdo4547
    @terraflow__bryanburdo4547 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    1) No kneepads? Looks like plenty of kneebar opportunities being missed.
    2) No discussion of beta visualization. This is the key to hard redpointing and assertive execution.
    3) She should be working it on toprope before trying lead goes. She cannot acquire the beta properly when she is afraid of the falls. Focus on one parameter at a time. I have sent 8b FA without taking a single lead fall on the route. The object is to climb without falling, not to prove your bravery.

    • @carlosslim4916
      @carlosslim4916 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well said! That fall from the previous video looked nasty!

    • @Joonne66
      @Joonne66 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mh I think this depends on your climbing philosophy. Everyone see it a little bit different. I never check out something in toprope. In Austria the people would laugh if you try a 8b in Toprope. I think this is stupid, because everyone can climb the way he wants. Cecilia is a alpinist, so I think she have the same philosophy. And I hate toprope climbing, because its uncomfortable, especially in overhangs. Congrats for the 8b FA! Nice work

    • @Joonne66

      Where is the route?

    • @terraflow__bryanburdo4547
      @terraflow__bryanburdo4547 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keberle28
      The routes I set are in the U.S.. I am usually the first guy at the crag so I can do how I want without B.S. from critics. Plus I usually bolt from the top down in order to clean the routes in the first place, and to properly locate the bolts. For steep routes of course it is easier to work from lead. For less steep it is more efficient to work from TR. The point of sport climbing is to challenge your limits, not to risk injury. I have done plenty of more dangerous things in trad and in setting long hard sport routes so I don't need to prove anything. Producing beautiful, safe climbs is my priority.
      Right now I am bolting a massive, steep cave with areas of very loose rock, which is extremely dangerous work, often by myself with no hope of rescue if I were to get injured or stuck. For those that follow it will be very much safer of course as I will have left it well-protected and clean of major loose rock, but still plenty of adventure. The huge exposure and logistics of escape, etc.. will guarantee that.
      I was also one of the first in the world (80s and 90s) to bolt easier routes as safely as for harder routes. Easy routes used to have ridiculous 10m+ runouts with serious consequences as "sport routes". No more. If you want the risk just free solo, which I still do for easy routes if I feel adventurous.
