Cromer Beach I GOT WIPED OUT in Stormy Conditions

- In this video, Cromer Beach Battling Stormy Conditions, I captured a few decent images despite the brutal weather.
A couple of weeks ago, I headed to Cromer Beach in Norfolk with the goal of photographing the groynes along the seafront in a Fine Art style. However, that day was not ideal for such shots. The conditions were rough, with strong winds, rain, and a high tide that covered the groynes I intended to capture.
While this was disappointing, as a landscape and seascape photographer, you learn to adapt to the circumstances. And honestly, taking photos in stormy conditions can be great!
Spoiler alert: I went back the next day when the conditions were better and got the Fine Art shots I wanted. I’ll share that video next week!
I hope you enjoy this one, and feel free to leave a comment.

Gary, I always look forward to seeing your videos because I enjoy your enthusiasm and always learn something new. Thanks again.
Gary, you could make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. Just love these images. The mood is wonderful. Can't wait to see next week's Part 2.
Your enthusiasm is infectious….looking forward to part ii already 😊
Very kind, thank you xx
I just love your excitement and story telling Gary, you know how to make us all feel like we are enjoying the ' wet ' journey with you lol.
That's Overstrand, Cromer is a mile west and I am a couple of miles east. Again, you've come down to my neck of the woods and not said hello! Rotter. Nice Images - well worth the soaking.
Cheers Andy 👍👍
17:10 is my personal favourite, I love what the hand rails add to that shot. The North Norfolk coastline is my favourite part of the county, you’ve awakened my mind for a return trip for a holiday to the area with this beautiful video, rain and all.
Thank you Gary, always an enjoyment to see your images your character and encouraging audio.
Excellent video and great entertainment for a Sunday evening. Looking forward to the next one.
Thank you 👍👍
Brilliant Gary loved that. 😂 you could tell you really enjoyed that morning. Can’t wait for the next video. All the best.
Thanks 👍
Great video Gary. Good to see you having such a great time.
When that cloth is dry, don’t use it. Salt crystals galore will scratch your filters to death. Wash it first.
Wonderful as usual👍👍
Always 👍👍
Totally bonkers! Great video, great narrative! Looking forward to the next one to see If the gear and photographer survived!😀
what a great “adventure”!!! thank you so much for videos like this … this just MADE my sunday morning breakfast !
Oh cool. Cheers Andy 👍👍
Stunning images , very ethereal quality about the 10 stopper images ....I'm going to plan a trip to the coast somewhere to try this...
Great pictures Gary I wished I was brave enough to go near the sea with my gear 😊👍🏻
Hello Gary, I am your fan from Malaysia. Thank you for your sharing and guidance, which have taken my long-exposure photography aesthetics to the next level. Wishing you a wonderful day!😊😊😊
Kind of you to say, thank you. I have made a no-nonsense guide to using filters. It should be out in a couple of weeks. 👍👍
Lovely bit of enthusiasm right there. Superb.
Thank you 👍👍
I absolutely love your videos. I love your enthusiasm and excitement!! This video as many of your others make me wanna rush out to the seaside and start photographing. But I live 4 hours and work a full time job, LOL. I wish I could afford a trip to the UK and just spend a week with you to learn and hang out. Because I know it would be one heck of a fantastic and exciting time!! Maybe one day I'll be able to make it across the big pond and do just that! Thanks so much for your videos!
Cheers James 👍👍
This was brilliant. I got such a giggle from this video. Your enthusiasm and enjoyment in these conditions is what photography is all about 😀 Next time take extra cloths 😛
Great video, the cliffs behind that beach are great for Kestrels
Thanks for a good Sunday start, I wish I were there! enjoy the rest of the days, looking forward to the rest of the videos from the trip!
Thank you. Hope you have a great day xx
Always a pleasure Gary
Cheers Stephen 👍👍
Fantastic love a good storm.

Great video from an amazing place to photograph. Great to meet you at Lakenheath a few weeks back .
Some cracking images Gary, what a blast you had!!
Superb content as always. Thanks for sharing your journey with us all
Cheers 👍👍
Wonderful video!! Really like the photo towards end of video with the railing!
Thank you very much! The Groyne pictures for nect weeks video are way better 👍👍
Great to see you down in my neck of the woods. Overstrand is one one my go to places, not only for the groynes but also you can get some great sunset images looking back to Cromer pier. Hope you've managed to dry out....whoever said the weather was always better down south.
Good one as usual Gary, thanks for sharing
Thank you xx
You are brave man Gunga Din-- I love these shots-- Keep it up
That salt water is making me nervous 😂 I still remember the day many years ago when my dad accidentally dropped mums camera in a rock pool - it died! Such an enjoyable video
Thank you 👍👍
Brave man. Fantastic photography. Nuts.
Many thanks!
Cracking images Gary in what must have been very testing conditions. Hats off to us for sticking that out. How many soakings did you get 😮 A pleasure to watch as always mate 😊👍
Nice one Gary stunning photos and giving that Nikon setup a good test, cooking forward to next weeks adventure, stay safe and dry 😅
Lovely vid and lovely pictures
I was in that very car park on Friday. Beautiful day!
The following day was a much better :) Cheers Mike 👍👍
You are having way too much fun!! Hope your camera survived!
It's all good ta 👍👍
Hi Gary, First I tell that I always follow you because you are a great person and photographer. Hope your equipment is still functioning due to sea water. Keep up your good work. Mario Mifsud from Malta
Cheers Mario. Thankfully, the camera is all good xx
9th of September is autumn. Greetings from from Iceland.
Wonderful video Gary 😍😍
Excellent 😃
Thank you 👍👍
That’s so intrepid Garry. Lovely results though.
Did you dry out eventuality LOL Great shots, love them 🙂
Awesome video Gary, and those images are incredible as always! Dried out yet?! Did the cameras survive?!
Camera all good, I've got Man Flu :)
Think I’d have been using my freezer bag waterproofing method:)
So fun to watch! How did your Z8 do with the water? I’ve been afraid to get mine wet. I always love your images, but not a fan of the metal railings! Most importantly, I always learn from you! Thanks for taking me along!
wild !!!!
Cheers 👍👍
Gary, as a mere snapshotter with a tiny budget I'm amazed at the apparent lack of care that professional landscape photographers seem to have, amongst other things, for their equipment namely:-
a) clambering around with an expensive camera/lens combination without at least a wrist strap.
b) not using any protection for their camera in inclement weather. Surely a loose transparent plastic hood would reduce potential problems even if your system has weather sealing..
c) why a cable release whether physical or electronic does not appear to be used now. Ok, not so much an issue with long exposures but to capture the moment!
Note I'm just trying to understand your ethos not complaining or criticising.
Yes I am subscribed to your channel and continue to enjoy your content.
Regards
To us, they're just tools. I of course love my tools, but I don't mind getting them dinted and knocked. It's too much of a fuff messing with covers and triggers. Cameras these days are pretty weather proof. 👍👍
@@GaryGough Thank you for your response. I'm not being facetious but am just trying to understand your mindset. I fully appreciate that for you and your peers they are tools. Given your predilection for sometimes extreme locations the potential loss of equipment overboard or down a cliff may just end up being an irritation to your insurers albeit at the expense of a day's shoot.
😀
Love your energy doing these Gary.... did the Nikon survive?
Don't you just love a cliffhanger. Suspenders.......
😁😁 I loved the pictures I took. I hope you will too 👍👍
Hope you're well xx
Yup, that’s summer in Norfolk! There have been days when we’ve left from Bury St Edmunds in 28degrees, by the time we get to the beach it’s 18 with 5 degree windchill and you need a hoodie not a bikini….
It was pretty cold I have to say :)
Norfolk coast is great but it probably cos I head that way about 4 times a year for music weekends. So, I get to shoot bands and generally 10 stopper groyne shots. 👍📸
Good stuff, but Cromer? I think you mean Overstrand.
nice images, if you want groyne heaven, go to Hornsea
How was the camera afterward? I also saw your doppelganger getting off a bike this morning in Wisconsin, I had to do a double-take to make sure it was not you.
Two good looking fella's wandering around? 😊😊 Camera was fine thanks 👍👍
Hope you managed to clean all that salt water off. 😬
You got a big shower at the beginning of the video 😂😂😂
Yep, my microphone died because of it :(
is that Cromer or Mundesly?
Overstrand
As David said, apparantly. I guess I get it wrong next week as well :)
