Mart, Thank you for the compliment on our products. Its true that our accessories are a bit pricy compared to the jack. Most of the jacks of this type are made off shore including the cast parts of the Hi Lift jack and they are made in great quantities. I estimate 500 thousand units per year. In that scale, things can be done more cheaply.
This foot essentially keeps the jack's upright beam from leaning forward as it lifts. The manufacturers of these jacks allow the foot on the jack to pivot because they understand that as the lifting point raises, one of two things, (or both), have to happen if the foot were rigid: Either the load being lifted needs to be able to move forwards towards the jack as the lifting point moves up for the upright beam to remain vertical, or the load needs to be able to slide forward on the lifting point for the upright beam to remain vertical. They could cast the upright beam and foot as one piece...but they don't. On purpose.
These guys have something new coming out all the time. I know they have some more Hi-Lift or Farm Jack accessories coming out soon. I have been getting stuff from these guys for years now. They build aircraft parts and boat stuff as well as all the jack products. You can see some of my videos I did about their boat products.
My philosophy has always been to make the very best products possible and we constantly improve products as we figure out ways to do so. If you decide to infringe on our patent pending design be careful. I don't want you to get hurt. The design looks simple but there is real engineering in it.
