  • Doesn't get much crazier than this! After heat three of the 2018 NCAA West Prelim 1500m went out super slow, the athletes turned it on for the final lap, which is when things got crazy. The race ended with two falls and a nasty kick in the final 100m. bit.ly/2ILBgqr

    The 1st guy who went down looked like the guy who started the jostling.

      Mr Chikn if you go to the very start of the race you can see him pushing the guys to his left and right.

      For some reason I watched that guy through the entire race. What a nervous, irrational, and pushy person.

    • @MickLoud999
      @MickLoud999 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that is wrong. it is the 2nd guy who went down was doing the jostling. He actually pushed Gleason down then fell over himself before the finish. There were 3-4 guys pushing one another. They got antsy as the race went along and they bunched up (literally and figuratively)

    as a spectator, nothing more annoying than watching a 1500 race turn into a 1000 warm up and 500 meter race. with that said, as a runner.... I understand the strategy.

      seriously? as a spectator with the knowledge of a runner i absolutely love it...nothing more exciting than a race where huge upsets are possible...

      2 guys blew their chances bc it was “tactical.”

    • @weslachman
      @weslachman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea, they didn't have the ability to attack in a tactical race. would you rather watch a race where there is a fight betwene the top two guys, or a whole pack of runners, in which an upset is highly possible

    Instead of awarding 1500M medals for whatever that was, give the top 3 finishers medals for combined 400M and Greco-Roman wrestling event.

    The second Oregon runner, West, could have finished in 5th, but he tried to pass the guy in front of his on the inside and that other guy wouldn't let him. Smart move by the other runner - that's what I would have done in this race.

    If you're going to turn it into a tactical race, you sure as shit better know that you have the fastest speed in the field. You're essentially turning the race into a 400m. What's the point of training if you're not going to run the full 1500m?

  • @tannercruzzz812
    @tannercruzzz812 6 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    THIS is garbage. This is supposed to be the best of your region. Show it. I don't want to hear about wind. Allowing the entire field to be that bunched up with a lap to go gets you the outcome they deserved. If you are guy who can run sub 3:40 and you fell or got out kicked by someone supposedly inferior to you I hope you find peace with a lifetime of regret you're bound to have now

    • @jameshowey8708
      @jameshowey8708 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There would be benefit in instituting qualifying standards out of the regional specifically for the distance events to avoid this type of race

    Stop complaining about the time/race strategy. Pushing the pace is suicide in these races, and the top runners don’t need to push the pace because they qualify using less energy with a simple 400m kick. If any of you were in this situation the race would have been the same

    • @TheRealDealCamper
      @TheRealDealCamper 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The whole point of preliminary racing is to advance and place as high as possible. It's not a time trial, and 99% of high school runners cannot close a race in 52 seconds. PS: what's your open 400 PR?

    This happens too much in college. I led a 1500m semi in a conference meet and split 2:30 at 800m in 1st (no I did not make the final - in fact, running w a limp on a bad hammy)

      I’ve saved this race on my favorites! They all knew what they were doing when they started the race. In fact this was a great race for the slower half the pack, gave them a reason to run.
      I thought this was fantastic for those who capitalized on this strategy!

    If I was in a race like this and I knew I could run 3:50 with no help(most these guys are 3:45) I'd just time trial it out front, pretty pitiful seeing college heats slower than hs state finals

  • @TheSolution4Kickz
    @TheSolution4Kickz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was terrible! I get it run a tactical race to make it through but the extra stuff that occurred was bad for the sport. Gonzaga runner shoved the UCLA runner but the Minnesota runner started shoving the Oregon runner. UCLA runner got a nice dose of karma with his two-hand shove and took a fall himself. The Gonzaga runners started the jostling coming off the curve. Some disqualifications should've been in order for the Gonzaga runners but karma got him when he got clipped by the Oregon runner. Glad none of the Gonzaga runners qualified for the next round.
