I found this useful because I want to go to these campsites off the Desert road. just to see what they are like. I stay at all sorts of places. thanks for sharing .
Thanks for that. It's hard to know exactly what a campsite is going to be like from the descriptions on the DoC website, or Google. I'm sure these ones probably change a bit depending on the season.
I am sure lots of us can relate to the "I havn't been camping thing" which thanks to you we can do here virtually. I can see the appeal of a big bike that can handle road cruising and then negotiate a bumpy bush track without taking out the sump. Well done and thanks.
Originally from the area, shame they only cater to the four wheel campers in such an awesome place. I tend to just slip into the bush away from all the noise and kids 😜 just use the water.
Yeah. Sometimes I can see the appeal of just carrying a hammock. Plenty of trees to strap on to. However, I wouldn't want to leave my bike too far from where I'm camping.
@@theNZbv I know what you mean, i always get my bike into where i am. Depends on your bike i suppose. But no way would i leave it alone at a camp site.
You would be able to find plenty of suitable trees. They would be away from the main camping area (carpark) so you'd probably have to clear some vegetation away from between the trees. And there are lots of places you could set up camp other than the "official" campsites.
You can go off the beaten track in that area. That's what many hunters do. The DoC website says: "You can freedom camp on public conservation land (except at DOC reserves) if the land is not listed as a prohibited (no camping) site." So it's allowed. The issue for me is that my bike isn't exactly suited to scrambling through the bush and I wouldn't want to leave it on the side of the road. Also, it's a forest... so there's not much in the way of grassy areas.

That looked an epic frost. Reminded me of the brass monkey rally. Totally agree it's all about freedom camper vans now days
The brass monkey would be a whole other level. This was more of a chilly lemur. :)
Very enjoyable and inspiring video, thank-you.
Thanks. I need to explore that part of the country a bit more. It's one of the first times I've stopped on that road.
beautiful places awesome video man
Thanks. One day I'll learn how to take good quality videos which capture the true beauty of the landscape.

Yes, the bike can handle some bumpy tracks. The rider on the other hand... useless on anything other than well maintained tracks.

Great video... especially related to moto camping in NZ. Do you think a hammock system would work well for the average campsites you visited?

@@theNZbv thanks brother. Ride safe!
Do you have to camp at a designated camp site , is it not allowed to go off the beaten track and camp on some grass ?
