Shame about the drone mate...so cool that the roads you find are the exact type of roads that I enjoy the most...way out the back and beyond... thanks for the videos... I have riden several of the roads you show and have had a ball cheers for the uploads
Dropped off a load of logs there about 37 yrs ago, one and only time I ever went there. Even back then it was like stepping back in time. I often wondered what happened to the place. Thanks for sharing mate.
I recommend have a look at something like NZ Topo Maps to see where the unmarked roads are. Unfortunately they don't tell you whether they are public. But you can see that there is a road all the way through.
Wellingtonian here - great video! I used to live in Napier and I've been over the Napier-Taupo road many times! I'm even old enough (63) to have gone over the OLD Napier-Taupo road - the one that snakes waaaaay up into the hills! I'd love to go over that road again but I think it's now in private Maori ownership and has been closed off so it's not possible. A pity - I'd like to do the trip "for old times' sake".
Bits of the old road are still there. Pohokura Road north of Waipunga Falls has a short section of it. I think the Old Coach Road out to Trelinnoe Park is another small section of the road. It'd be fun to see how much of the route can still be pieced together.
wow this is a surprise and brings back a few memories. I remember standing in Endeans Mill in the early 60s as a 7yo kid, being absolutely awestruck watching two big circular saw blades tearing into huge rimu logs (yeah, its a bit sad but that's what they milled) It was the back of beyond even then. Thanks for posting this.
Great scenery, excellent commentary, bad luck on drone. Did the same to mine, DJI had a new one in mail box in under 48 hrs. Bit far to lone it to you, nth qld. Regards
Yeah. My previous drone decided to go swimming under a waterfall. Never saw it again. I've sent this off to get fixed. Hopefully the broken arm is the only real damage.
That gate that stopped you wasn't there years ago i think, track carries up to the right which joins up with the cycle trail ,came out that way 20 something yrs ago ,then it carries on down to Piripiri flats ,another old native sawmill ,all covered up now ,lodge there now ,overnight stays etc ,that dozer used to be overgrown, no roof at all
lovely video, thankyou again. If possible can u make a short video on the type of gear you ride with and what do you keep with you for these rides (4 hours - 7 hours). I am sure many of us here can take some advice.
Hey great vids just wondering what tyres you are using as you seem to do a lot of road then gravel we do a lot of two up touring but like a bit of gravel now and then but don’t want to lower our safety on particularly on wet roads we have a BMW 1200 gs
Thanks. I currently have a Shinko E705 on the front and a Pirrelli Scorpion Rally STR on the rear. No real plan behind that choice. It's mainly what was available at the time. I do think the Scorpions are pretty good for road and gravel.

Thanks. It's fun finding roads that are away from the populated areas. It make it easier to enjoy the ride.

I'm surprised no one has picked up the sawn timber. I would have thought those rimu planks would be quite valuable now.
First time watch, nice one am discovering and watching previous episodes.
Great to see the off mainstream adventures.
Nga mihi
Thanks for that. I hope you find a few rides that are enjoyable.
I will have to look it up so that I can find my way thanks for showing me the way

some of the trees at the old mill were huge!
They sure were. I'd like to have a proper look around the mill some time. Would have been amazing to see it in the early days.

I would have loved to see it in action. I'm glad they haven't bulldozed it.

Thanks. Enjoyed the video.
Glad you liked it.
Great fun 😊, I see the Gorse is in full flower everywhere
The hills have turned yellow. It was hard to see how much was gorse and how much was broom.
I think you will find the yellow flowers were broom.

There seems to be a lot of interesting forestry history around there. Shame I can't take the motorbike along the Timber Trail.

I'll have a think about that. It will definitely be a short video. I don't really take much.
'Pohipi Road'. Letter 'i' missed. Poihipi Road. Great Country.
Oh no. Sorry. I forgot to go back and check all the spelling before I rendered the video. Well spotted.
Hey ya mate u must have put a few k's on the bike now. Finally got my RP, very happy with it. Will have to do some of yr trails soon..take it eze
Yep. It's well over 35K now. I will have worn it out before I finish paying it off. I'm sure you'll clock up a few k's on yours too.
