      @@JJProductions88 I don't think '' everything that made Agalloch great is now in Khorada.'' is entirely true...I think both bands are cool(Pillorian/Khorada)....Aggalloch was the coolest tho.

      @@cakeofthepan2233 It's not even slightly true, it's demonstrably false. Look at the linear notes for Pale Folkore and The Mantle, John Haughm composed the vast majority of the music single handedly.
      If you need any more proof just watch any of Agalloch's old live shows, the lead guitarist and the drummer can't even hold a tempo.

  • @Aryzuo
    @Aryzuo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    Much as I love Agalloch and all the folks who were a part of it, Pillorian makes it pretty clear that John Haughm was the biggest influence on who made Agalloch "Agalloch"

      You can definitely hear John Haughm's contributions to this album and his lyrics are stellar as always. Was he the sole songwriter?
      I had never heard of the bands that the other members are a part of, but I do plan on checking out Maestus once I've stopped listening to this album on repeat.

    • @9Anu9Ninigiku8Igigi5
      @9Anu9Ninigiku8Igigi5 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe that yes he wrote the lyrics for all the songs. His writing is amazing as always!

    • @Malkav65
      @Malkav65 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanos Thanos Ah, actually I was referring to the songwriting specifically, not the lyric-writing. I guess that was confusing asking the question right after commenting about the lyrics. But yeah, we're in total agreement that Haughm's lyrics are great. Thought-provoking and beautiful as always.
      I'm just curious how much influence the other members had on the crafting of the songs themselves.

    Obsidian Arc is a goddamn masterpiece. I swear it gets better with every passing year. I hope that one day Haughm will come back with some black metal project as good as Pillorian. TBH, right now I think it would be better than a new Agalloch album.

    Saw them in Cincy with Wolves in the Throne Room. They were fantastic. Yeah they will always fight that comparison to Agalloch for obvious reasons, but what Agalloch created was subjective to that particular group's creative chemistry and it will never be replicated. This is fantastic for what it is. A dark, melodic artistic experience. I would see Pillorian again absolutely anytime, same with Wolves.

    I've seen this album performed live and its hard to describe in words the way you could feel the sound in person. You just have to experience it, I would highly recommend seeing them if you have the chance. Their drummer also plays with UADA, I would recommend that band's performance in concert is a mandatory experience as well.

    It's all right, but not as good as Agalloch. I think The Mantle and Pale Folklore will be the greatest thing J Haughm will ever do. Those two are simply masterpieces and this darker, heavier style has never reached those gloomy heights.

      All of Agalloch is worth listening to, but for whatever reason Pale Folklore never held my interest as well as The Mantle, Ashes Against etc, and--my personal favorite--Marrow of the Spirit. I love the songs on their other albums but I really think that one is strongest as an Album. And not just because it starts with a cello intro and I used to play cello.

    It's really a good band, but make me sad that I can't find the amazing atmosphere that Agalloch has, and some of the riffs feels a little bit generic, something that never happened with Agalloch, It's seems that this album have been made to much fast, I hope that Agalloch maybe come back some day, as a side project just for release some music (unique music, unique feelings)

    • @sieda666
      @sieda666 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sadly I agree. I really wanted to like this band, but there just isn't anything engaging to me on the album. It feels like it was put out because they needed to release a record to get the band off the ground, not because they had anything meaningful or worthwhile to express in the music.

    • @tesselesk8
      @tesselesk8 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yesss, it's a big dissapoint for me, because Agalloch has become a part o my life, and no matter how much you look for, you will never find anything like them. I really love atmospheric black metal, but Agalloch seems to have something more in their music, but this , is just another abm band. Would't even realise that this is the agalloch singer if a didn't already knew

      I'm 2 songs in so far, and it's definitely not feeling like Agalloch in a lot of ways. I'm looking forward to Khorada putting their album out. Hopefully that part of Agalloch includes the members who brought the atmosphere. Still, I definitely don't hate this. It'll be interesting to see how the fusion with Giant Squid's old vocalist works out. Those aren't two bands I would have envisioned coming together.
