I don't have a cellphone. Hated the damn things early on and wondered why anyone would do that to themselves. A decade later I see the result ... swipe left zombieism.
I don't have a cell either. I had one for a couple of years when I had terminally ill family members. When they passed away I didn't it.
I have a cell phone, use it for a phone, a timer texting my family and occasionally ask it a question, don't use it for ANYTHING else, I'm still using a Note4 which doesn't constantly tell he company where I am, and doesn't listen to every word I say near it the way my hubby's LG does.
It is too late. We already gave them our info and we can't do most anything without a cell phone. I don't want a smart home that is for sure!
No its not deleting facebook owned apps including whatsapp will stop the surveillance and as your personality changes over time they will only have that old personality profile
I haven't had a cell phone since 2005 and am doing just fine. The longer you have one the more dependent you will get on it. They don't call it a electronic ball and chain for nothing.
It isn’t. These tech companies only have our info from the last time you used their services. You unplug yourself from them and the info they have will slowly become more and more irrelevant throughout the years. It might take a decade or 2 before almost everything you gave them back then becomes incorrect but that wait is worth it
SOUNDS good but so do the lies from a false witness! Unplug yourself from all social media! Go outside and meet a neighbor, get involved in your churches and community! Positive change...walk away!

Most of my longtime friends and family do not live in my neighborhood, or even my state. I know my neighbors, I walk with them but your vision is a little short.

Everything you said is very true! I have had MeWe since 2015 but hardly anyone used it. Im glad Mewe is now coming up in the world. FB needs to crash.

You replace them with solutions that provide you similar value as these platforms and devices, but that don't have a business model that depends on selling your data, and that offers end-to-end encryption for all communications. Use a VPN 24/7 on every single computing and networking device you own, use secure email like Protonmail, look at social media alternatives like MeWe, Signal etc. that at least seem to want to protect your security and privacy.

MeWe has been a life-saver. The only thing missing is more members... and THAT's only a matter of time. MeWe's interface and graphic organization is far better, for example, than FB. The uploads are super fast. I'm excited for the future of MeWe. I'm never going back to the scoundrels at Faceplant.

Finally. MeWe needs to release a developer API so that third party apps can utilize their platform. I would love to create an app that focuses only on my group in MeWe or integrates MeWe content into my website.

Frustrating that Weinstein doesn't mention or credit Shoshana Zuboff at all even though she coined the term 'surveillance capitalism' and literally wrote the book on it which covers everything he presents

it's taken a while but finally enough FB people are on MeWe for me to stop using FB. YAY! And the new FB guidelines are so awful that anyone who posts educational or protests or are activists of any sort are going to be deleted so MeWe here we come!! :D

Proton mail is connected/associated with CERN. From what I've read, it was created by 2 scientists from CERN. I don't know about Mewe, but I appreciate the respect for privacy of individuals.
shoshana zuboff's great book the age of surveillance capitalism was how i found this out. i got tipped off when chatting to a friend. i was saying that back in the day corps used to create products to suite customers. now they create customers to suite products.

Irony is I'm watching this on TH-cam which is owned by Google the largest data mining company in the world. For some reason I'm fairly certain that the TH-cam algorithm wouldn't start recommending videos about surveillance capitalism.

If you do not actively put a live mic in your living room or carry around a surveillance tool disguised as phone, privacy really ain't that big of a problem. That apart from the fact that people knowing things about you only is a problem if you care what other people think of you and thereby can manipulate you. The status of your health for example is not a real secret in the bigger scheme of things. It really doesn't matter if other people know about it. You're not that important.

Totally agree and I'm trying to move people to MeWe. How do we delete Google though? My android phone requires a Google account. I've moved off Google search and use Duck Duck Go for search engine. But still use Google for maps and photos.
Well, I've an account on MeWe and our "non profit" as a page (so we pay for that). The MeWe concept seems to be good (that's why we use it), but some points are disturbing. First of all, when I've a look at MeWe on Linkedin, I see that no one seems to be in the USA. Some employees are from Iran, some from Ukrenia etc... I understand that paying people from other countries like these ones can lower the cost but as a project manager I know the limits of remote developpement and I'm not sure the quality of the result can be good. And in fact it seems not to be. For example, there is a lot of bugs and no support. You can't post automaticly (we post automaticly on our page but it's a kind of "hack"). The fact there is no support on a free sistem, OK let's say it's logical. But we pay for our page and you can have a "Premium account". If you pay for the Premium Account to get the same bugs as without Premium and the same lack of support, why will you pay?
There is also the MeWePro platforme which is a paid one. We wrote to this platform many times, and we never get answers.... We tried to call people from MeWe thought Linkedin and got no replies. After searching and testing, it seems the "pro" plateform as nothing to do with the free one. So even if you have an account on the free one, you need to create a new one on the "paid one" when it would be logical to be able to use the same.
I think there's really a "space" for MeWe, especially with the big increase of publicities in Facebook. And wih the link between Facebook and Whatsapp, "MeWe+Telegram" rather than "Facebook+Whatsapp" is a good choice. But even if making video is nice, I suggest Mark Weinstein to start working more on the product quality...
I am so thankful I'm pretty much a Luddite and I have never had an Alexa, a Ring, smart TV, or any of that stuff. I just got a smart phone in January of this year. And now I'm considering leaving Facebook because I do feel addicted.
