She was signed by Ed Sheeran after he heard her live, singing My Mind, at a Sofar performance. Unfortunately her mom committed suicide a week after that same performance. That meant that her album first came out this year. But this is definitely her year, for sure 🙏💖
She was raised in West Memphis and grew up in the Evangelical Church where her father was the pastor and she was the leader of the Praise and Worship team. That's where her call and response and other things came from. Other than those influences, she has been influenced by the Blues of the Mississippi Delta, and many other influences. Her talent is a gift to all of us!!
Yes yes you know enough about her. This is ALL church and folk music in her blood. She sings from a vulnerable and sad place, most times. Especially after her mother passed. I love seeing the joy return to her!
Yebba's Boomerang live version next please. But you need to listen to her live performances of My mind and Evergreen also. You will never stop being amazed by her.
If you haven’t reacted to Yebba’s Age of Worry, I’d love it! Appreciated every single thing you said about music touching your soul. You got yourself a new subscriber.
It was great to see when you realise that you just knew the song Distance, but not the singer. Yebba is a songbird, so distinctive. I hear her voice singing in my head hours after :) Great reaction - do more!
Man listen …..I feel the SAME THING every single time I listen to be her . JOY , happiness , grateful that im ALIVE to experience the making of a LEGEND!!!
The way she controls and intricately uses her voice to convey such an immense amount of emotion sparks a curious fire in me. There are some moments in this video where her voice reminds me of a literal instrument. There's this brass sounding element to her. Every time I watch this specific video I'm in awe. The vocal agility, the unity of her band and singers, her rich buttery tone, her control of her vibrato, and I bet we haven't even begin to see what she's capable of vocally and lyrically. I can wait though. When she takes her time (if you know you know) master art pieces are created. Highly suggest listening to the cover of "gravity" with Yebba Clark Beckham. Enjoy.
Her songs takes me to a different dimension man☹️I can plug my ears up and lay in bed and close my eyes and feel like I’m in heaven listening to her voice
Her full name is Abbey Smith but her mother called her Yebba and that’s what she is known as. She grew up in West Memphis. Her father was a pastor and her mother was a teacher. My Mind is a live from SOFAR and it’s phenomenal and will blow your mind. It was never released as a recording. A couple of weeks after that performance her mother committed suicide. Evergreen was written about her mother . Watch the Beats live.
love Adele bro but Abbey got her out. She got that gospel soul from the Clark Sisters. I already put Abbey up there with the greats even though she got a lot more years and growth in her.
Only halfway thru but i wanted to say, *love* your reaction and how hard you’re vibing to this! I watched the lucky daye one too i see some familiar yebba stans in the comments section ayy but yeah, you really can’t miss with her. My mind is a great place to start because it’s incredible, it’s her first original and it’s heartbreaking her stuff that came after is amazing too, and it starts to mean even more when you tie in what was going on in her life
This is the second time I watch your reaction...love when you ask "Who taught you how to sing like this?". When Pj Morton and Yebba won a Grammy for Best R&B a couple of years back, they both went up on stage and Yebba thanked the Holy Ghost! I got chills, and Í´m not religious. Check it out! The old Bee Gees hit How deep is your love - Pj Morton featuring Yebba. Love your reaction here. And yes, she is amazing....a-ma-zing!
Thanks for a genuine reaction. I discovered Yebba during this pandemic and I truly believe that she is the voice of a generation...Elle Fitzgerald, Aretha, Chaka, Jazmine Sullivan. Yes, Adele is very good, but Yebba is in another league. Also, you are in for a treat as you discover all the amazing collaborations she has done before finally releasing her first solo album Dawn, a symbol of a new day for her, but also the name of her mother who she lost to suicide a week after performing My mind, which has over 18 million views. It´s where it all started. Check it out! Anyway, new subscriber here.
Soul is partly a product of your musical influences as a child and the rest is from God. I grew up on a steady diet of James Brown. When i picked up the guitar it was instinctual . I played beats on my wall in my bed at night since the age of about 6. Later in life i sat behind a drum kit and played. People thought i was a drummer I’m not I’m a guitar player But James brown is my in my soul
Great reaction. You have to check out "My Mind", Clark Beckham featuring Yebba singing "Gravity" by John Mayer, the live versions of "Boomerang", "October Sky" and "How Much Can A Heart Take" with Lucky Daye.
I love the way you react we are very much alike....Yebba 's real name is abigail Smith her mom called her Yebba the reverse of her name abbey. She was raised in Memphis in a church with her Father and mom. The soul is all from Jesus her mother comited suicide she then wrote my mind . I really love the way you love music 🎶 like I do .Thank you Ariel Seynett
She's different to Adele in so many ways musically, though they both write their own songs, sing superbly and are white women. Yebba has no diva about her, (yet! please don't Yebba) but sings like an angel with such soul and maturity.

If Kelly Clarkson and Aretha Franklin and Joni Mitchell had a baby... She's so good! I just discovered her, and I'm down the rabbit hole!

Yebba credits #DorindaClark as her favorite vocalist who basically trained her (which makes total sense) in answering your question
I looked at your playlist

She grew up in Arkansas. Her father is a pastor.
She was influenced by the Clark Sisters.
She's different to Adele in so many ways musically, though they both write their own songs, sing superbly and are white women. Yebba has no diva about her, (yet! please don't Yebba) but sings like an angel with such soul and maturity.
