  • As we see during the Olympics, athletes are getting faster and stronger all the time. The same can be said for a large percentage of America's senior citizen population: Men and women showing the benefits of staying active as they age, with some breaking world records while they do it. Lee Cowan reports.

I'm 70 years old and been running for 48 years so far. I hope to be running in my 90's.

A 90 year old once told me, “The moment you put your feet up, that’s the moment they put you in the grave.”

I'm 26 soon, I think it's time for change. I used to be a runner in my teen years and I always felt my best after a run. Exercise is a must for humanity.

What you noticed was that they had a good command of their faculties, able to carry on a comprehensive conversation without stuttering or loss for words. Showing us that sports help the brain to remain active and alert through sports activities. Kudos to all of them.

These young people, yes, they are young at heart, are wonderful. I hope they go out with their running shoes still warm from a workout.

Never to old to start, always to young to give up

What inspirational stories here!! Men and women who continue working out and make their health a life-long commitment are to be commended and are tremendous role models for all of us. I am a 68 year old distance runner who started running back in 1972 when I was inspired by Frank Shorter's gold medal victory in the Munich Olympics. I have been running ever since. I have just recovered from Covid-19 and now my sights are set on running across America from Oceanside to New York City (Atlantic Ocean) in March 2021. I have talked with some who say I cannot do it, but I also have those who encourage me and tell me it can be done! Videos like this give me encouragement and the motivation to try. Thank you for that!!!

I think the narrator missed the point here. These people are not "exceptions" - they got off their butts and did the work. Like the one guy said - if other people can do it - why not him?

If you don't use it you'll lose it. I'm 41 and out of shape due to an accident over a year ago. I realize now just how important it is to exercise and to take care of yourself. And my biggest fear is to decline further then needing assistance. You never know how important "abilities" are until you can't do them. Let these older adults be an inspiration to us all, that what we do now could pay off or continue into the future.

You know the thing that is so amazing is how ALERT they all are. I dont mean that to be rude, but most elderly I know are a little less. Thats aamzing!

That's so amazing for people of their age to be so determined.

Something older people should never forget: Exercising always "hurts', it hurt when I was 16 and it hurts now that I am 38.

A 10 minute mile after age 90. A 15 minute mile after age 95. Five years difference, five minutes added. Interesting. Physical activity is key to graceful living in old age.
