  • These are test flights of both the 24mm and 13mm versions of my Pikmin Onion rockets. The 24mm versions each carry four "pikminauts" in them that recover with their own leaf streamers.
All the rockets flew well, but the 24mm versions suffered from me packing the chute too tight and really should use a faster motor, like an E30-4T. Also, the nosecones are designed to vent excess ejection gas, but if they're on too snug, the nose cone fails to come off. Something the 24mm yellow rocket taught me the hard way (it's repairable).

Awesome, what motors are you using?

D12-3's for the big ones and A3-4T's for the little ones. In the video I comment that the big ones needed a bigger motor but in retrospect they really don't. The biggest issue I had was packing the chutes too tight.
The design for the big ones has two retainers, one for the D size Estes motors and one that allows 70mm Aerotech motors, like an E30-4T, which they fly higher on. But I also have a prototype retainer that will allow for an Estes E size motor. It sticks out the bottom more, but should still fly. That's not in the design yet, however, because I've not tested it.
