    You know, back then, I thought LOTR winning 11 Oscars was perhaps an overkill. It was just a very well-done fantasy film to me. Now, I'm almost 36 and I think it's a movie where beyond the disguise of fantasy, you get a solemn, deep tale about the loss of innocence, the absence of perfect heroism and the price one has to pay for being forced to stare into the abyss for one moment too long. How once you do that, you're never the same again.
    It just happens to take place in a fictional world with fictional creatures, but the story is more poignant than many "serious" movies. There are some hard truths told in LOTR, some which can bring a tear to my eye after I've experienced life from more angles than just a teenager.
    The whole trilogy was so obviously and overwhelmingly good, such a rare achievement, the Academy simply had to push aside any of its preconceived notions and preferences, and simply give the awards to this obvious winner. They were earned, there was just nothing else to do really but to cave in and say - "yup, give every fucking award possible to LOTR", we shorthanded these people the previous few times a little bit, now it's time to give them every accollade they can get. And no one in the audience could argue really, or think "this should've been me", because well, it shouldn't have been anyone else. And it's not a shame to lose to a movie where the entire crew experienced their creative zenith at the same time.
    LOTR is special, ROTK is special and the awards underscore it. It's one of the times Academy got it right.

    PJ's "the Lord of the Rings" is the best film ever made. No, I won't say "return of the king" because it's not really three movies. It's one movie, that's like 10+ hours long, so they had to cut it and split it. Just like Tolkien's book, which was originally one book, that had to be split into three because they wouldn't print it so big. It's one and the same story, that's shot and made all at the same time. Return of the King got all the glory because it was a grand finale of the entire story. But the buildup is what made the finale great. All 3 movies got these 11 Oscars in my opinion. And they deserved more! This IS the best film ever made. Nothing else comes close.

    • @Choekaas
      @Choekaas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely. Fun fact, in the 30s and 40s they often handed out the Acting awards for last. They did Best Picture last in '45, but not in '46-48. However, they realized over the years that it was fitting to have Best Picture last. Such as in '47 when the papers reported to anticlimactic ending with:
      "Fontaine settled the highly contested Best Actor race: the winner was Fredrich March for "The Best Years of Our Lives". March was in New York and his Oscar was accepted by Cathy O'Donnell, who played Harold Russel's girlfriend in the movie. And that was the show" and the year after it was reported that audience members were starting to leave the theatre after Best Picture despite having the acting awards left.
      So they actually have done a different format and learned that it doesn't work. Looks like they have completely forgotten about the failures of the 40's.

Absolutely perfect in every part - direction, screenplay, cinematography, soundtrack, acting, editing, visual effects, art direction, costumes - and full of Poetry and Beauty. Every fragment of them is pure Art. Peter Jackson and his team were kissed by divine grace: they managed to transform one of the greatest books ever into three Classic movies, three monuments of the Cinema history. I just watched the extended edition of the trilogy and also watched a few extras on the DVD (behind the scenes, filming etc) - it's very easy to see why the movies were successful - the amount of effort and attention put into the project was mind boggling. one example - They made real weapons, armour, prosthetics etc for the armies on screen and a lot of the combatants shown on screen were real people - this has certainly helped in keeping the realism - the movies have aged really well even 20 years on!
    Another thing to think about - the total budget for the trilogy was $300 million - it's incredible how they managed to pull that off !
    There probably won't ever be a production like this again - seeing how the movie industry has gone CGI crazy nowadays.

    • @brianscli9567
      @brianscli9567 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have no doubt you’ve read the novels, so why are you so grateful for Jackson’s adaptation? I wanna preface and say that I absolutely believe that two things can happen at the same time: one can love Tolkien’s work and praise it, and they can also love what Peter Jackson did with his adaptations and praise that. But what I don’t understand is when those who present themselves as Tolkien purists praise Jackson’s work as if it is the utmost faithful and precise adaptation of the books, which it is absolutely not. There are so many drastic departures from the books that I’d need twenty sets of hands to count them all with my fingers. The story of Lord of the Rings is about good triumphing over evil, man overcoming his temptations, and doing the right thing in the name of what’s good in the world, and ANY group or person or COMPANY that is dealing with the source material, knows that. Why do you think Peter Jackson made these movies? Why do you think MGM and New Line and Warner Bros made these movies? I’ll tell you: to make MONEY. That’s why any movie gets made, not because a faithful adaptation is owed to an estate or fan base. I really dig your enthusiasm and appreciation for the lotr trilogy and Tolkien’s legacy, so I hope it’s coming from a 1000% genuine place in your heart, because I’m sick of the negative attention this franchise is getting at the moment. It’s absolutely not deserved and people ought to just move on instead of being hot and bothered in comments sections.
      Sorry for sounding passive/aggressive (probably more aggressive than passive) I truly am not trying to come at you personally, I’m just bummed at the current state of fandom, and how when some “fans” don’t seem to like something, they just try to bring others down
