Love the look of the RCZ. Someone near me has one in white, and it looks very nice indeed. I would love an R version, nearly 270bhp and 0-60 in 5.7secs from a 1.6? That's pretty crazy. It will still do 40mpg too if I remember correctly and a fair £165 tax. They are rare as rocking horse shit though, and I have only ever seen one, which was while I was in Germany last xmas. A future classic indeed. Anyway, great vid, as per usual!

No major problems with the engine, although I did get a top overhaul and had the Degas bottle, top engine cover, cam sensor, MAP sensor, downstream oxygen sensor, fuel pump, high pressure fuel pump, timing chain, tensioner and sockets changed in 2023 as a measure of preventive maintenance.

The gear shift was unbelievably sloppy, the engine was gutless (if admittedly reliable), the built quality was terrible and absolutely none of the electrics worked, even the radio.

Good review, this was my last car, I had the turbo diesel, remapped stage one, it really was so nippy and amazing. I had it for 2.5yrs, a couple of things started to really bug me personally: steering wheel too big, handling not great, but it was pretty economical and like you said a massive massive boot , I do miss it now that I've seen your review lol. It really is just badge snobbery or people parroting what they've heard others say. I've driven Citroens for years, currently running a 10 year old Citroen C3. Nothing has ever fallen off them, none of them have ever broken down and left me stranded and I've only had to deal with the usual wear and tear items that any car would need. If you treat any car like crap and never service it then things will go badly wrong, it isn't just an affliction of French cars.

And 40 grand for a new t- rock with the cheapest dash you've ever seen. Not a chance. My family has owned half a dozen French cars over the years, all regularly serviced and only needing wear and tear parts the same as other brands, and it irks me a tad when people who've never owned one make sweeping generalisations about the cars or the owners. I guess the upside is that brand snobbery makes them a good value used buy.

Hey Matt , i bought a 207 for my first car to get something different to a corsa or a fiesta. Still not sure if it was the right choice. Can absolutely concur that peugeot owners do not look after the cars. Mine hadn’t been serviced in years and the cambelt was a couple miles away from snapping, tires were bald ETC. Had a full service done including cambelt and auxiliary belt, new tires, new discs and pads, air conditioning repaired and a full valet. Also replaced the sound system as last owner had blown the speakers. Also let off an odour bom as it stank
Now it’s a great car even if i’ve spent way more money than it’s actually worth.

I had one back in 2010 and used it as a Sunday car when they first appeared on British roads 👍 The first one I ever saw was on a motorway in Perthshire and I just thought it looked beautiful and somewhat Porsche looking, unfortunately it doesn't drive like one. The driving position is all wrong in my opinion but it is drop dead gorgeous especially from the inside. I had a rare model which had white stitched grey leather and with a pop up satnav which was cool because most RCZ's dont have a satnav at all. The boot was absolutely massive, a bit like Dr Who's tardus on wheels, it'll hold two large suitcases all day long or maybe the golf clubs but the rear seats are pretty unusable unless you've got very small kids. It's also not the fastest off the block as is pretty slow to take off from standstill but the mid range is pretty decent because 30 to 70 is pretty fast, I had the entry level156 BHP model but with gorgeous looking 19" wheels. I'd definately buy another one if I had the spare cash 🤩

Its the only car i always seems to take the long way home. The fact the rcz was hand assembled in austria mines 10 this year and no rattles no squeaks and love it. I've owned the 156 RCZ for 5 years now and I love it. Mrs is pregnant so I have to swap it this year which will make me very sad. I've looked at so many newer larger cars (XC40, E-Pace, 5008) but nothing is as comfortable to sit in and drive. There's a lovely responsive area between 55-80Mph in 5th gear that makes driving on the motorway fun and country roads are a delight. Lastly, the timing chain thing is real, Cost me £1000 to get it replaced last year at 75,000 Miles.

    I have a ‘15 plate RCZ 200 . 50k miles , I’m it’s 3rd owner , and with very rare red leather interior .
Generally I like the car . It’s reliable , quite quick , and economical ( on a run 40 + mpg ) .Lots of toys , although quite a few I don’t use , eg the hill start assist. The heated seats are terrific. And it’s heating + ventilation. A big boot . A distinctive shape .
They are negatives . The driving position somehow I just cannot get comfortable with .The gearing is too short , you need 5th for 20mph per 1k revs , in my wife’s 12 year old Mini One 4th gear ( of 6 )gives you 20 mph per 1k revs. Cruise control and steering column radio/CD controls are totally hidden. The aluminium gear-lever is freezing cold in winter and scalding hot in high summer . Engine sound is no more than ok , I was admittedly really spoilt by a Fiat Coupe 5 cylinder engine before the RCZ .

The RCZ R is the model to go for. Fettled by Peugeot Sport - better suspension, far better brakes, better interior and far more power. A genuinely fast car and cheap to run. Mine hasn't missed a beat. Better even than the legendary Peugeot 205 GTi which I also own. But you are right about Peugeot's other mid range models - boring and for people who have zero interest in cars.

I think a lot of people who own any car can give you that “shrug of the shoulder” and “ it was serviced by the guy who owned it before me 5 years ago thing”
The one question I always ask a seller(Car sales garages included) is if it has a timing belt, has it been changed in the last 5 yrs? Most don’t know and some will say “Well it’s got a full service history so I assume so”.
I agree though that generally speaking French cars are bought by people who just want something stylish to get them from A-B, and people often pick French cars because they are cheaper to buy than German or Japanese cars.
