10:57 - MP rushing to comfort James... I wish James would remember that now instead of feeling freed from a control freak, that still got them where they are today... :(
@@Diegosaurio I can't sing even a quarter as good as LaBrie did on this show but I absolutely know how frustrating it is when you have a bad day or are sick and unable to hit notes you used to be able to. I think James probably really did feel like he permanently destroyed his voice, though. I mean, he definitely doesn't sound amazing live nowadays (still great in the studio, though!) but given the circumstances, things could have been way worse. I agree, though, it's a shame how JL and MP had such a falling out. Maybe with the recent collab between JP and MP, we may see a reconciliation at least? I mean, to be fair, Portnoy DID often make fun of James' vocal issues in later years but still, they used to be great friends and I'd love to see them reconcile at least a little.
@@jakobfel2 Sorry but I'm like 99% certain James and Mike won't reconcile their relationship. Recently he confirmed that they literally haven't spoken since he left.
@@RetrOchannel Oh, I don't doubt that but as a fan of DT, I do wish they'd quit being children (particularly Portnoy) and just be cool with each other.
Yeah too bad it permanently damaged his voice. Axl could easily cancel because they were already an incredibly successful band. Dream Theater had only just got on the map, so to cancel the awake tour would've been really bad for their success.
Lol I do NOT like Axl but to be fair, that is definitely the best thing to do. James' biggest mistake was not taking time to rest as his doctor advised. His voice would probably have recovered fully, or at least closely to it, had he listened and taken that time off.
@@jakobfel2 the band couldn't stop the touring, if that's were the case, probably Dream Theater would died in 1995. The best option for them was to hire another singer for six months until James can sing again, but literally there was no time, because between James accident and the first gig of Japan in 1995 there was only a month of difference.
I am with you. If I am remembering he uses a D'Mazio tone Zone on the bridge but Tone Zones should not sound like that as those are humbukcers so yeah he sounds like on a splet coils
In my opinion, that's the true DT guitar tone. He somehow manages to get a very rich midrange distortion while keeping a ton of clarity, almost like what you might get from a single coil guitar, but thicker than that. I mean listen to the chord he hit at 8:42 and tell me that's not heavy.
felipe massa yeah true. His sound during the Japan 1993 concert when he plays Ytse Jam sounds like a thick strat like sound. Which I like. // yeah I get what you mean fam
I love John Myung.
Love hearing the crowd erupt for Myung's solo

God, I never noticed, the look on James´s face...wow
Nix Neato , James not look for Mike Portunoy?? what ??

This version is actually fantastic
when John was playing with the old good Ibanez.
Awake.. Best album
So good
It’s funny cuz James can still perform dream theater songs with food poisoning but if axl rose gets a cough he cancels the whole tour

JP sounds like he plays on split coil he forgot to turn off. Am I alone?

Look how MP enjoyed the scene. 😁😁😁
From a memory?
The best song of the fucking world!
Who's the keyboard player in this video? Derek Sherinian?
Yep! His first tour with DT in this video.
Thx.
As I know something happened labrie's voice in 1994 but he get well quickly after that.
11:46 LOL
Best rock band, for me.
"rock" you say?
Prog
@@iBoss818 It is rock though
The most talented band ever 😌
Progressive metal..
Guthrie Govan on drums

James LaBrie
He had food poisoning brother☹️
Which damaged his voice forever☹️
@@daphenomenalz4100 probably it was a combination of bad technique and food poisoning
@@daphenomenalz4100 but yeah the poisoning fucked him up
Genius
John myung never change
Too late
10:13 LOL
yo. what happened with his voice? caught a cold or something? it's pretty hurtful to see him like this :(
James starts straining notes here... far from their I&W tour in Japan with the original lineup. :(
It was because of the food poisoning. But the Awake tour also had dates in 1994 before the poisoning (december) and he sounds awesome there.
@Portnoy at 2:10
Back when James was a god, especially considering he had food poisoning just a month prior
yo yo! really? damn. i dont know a thing. poor LaBrie...:(
0:14 portnoy 🤣
God bless that japanese woman at the end of the video... fucking beautiful
Bro what?
top
sherinian messed up 😂
Dream theater surabaya
Labrie was seek after a food poisoning.
John’s sound is so weak in a way compared to his heavy sound now
