  • This is the larest steel war sail ship and is now situated in the Portsmouth Harbour, UK.
HMS Warrior is a 40-gun steam-powered armoured frigate[Note 1] built for the Royal Navy in 1859-1861. She was the name ship of the Warrior-class ironclads. Warrior and her sister ship HMS Black Prince were the first armour-plated, iron-hulled warships, and were built in response to France's launching in 1859 of the first ocean-going ironclad warship, the wooden-hulled Gloire. Warrior conducted a publicity tour of Great Britain in 1863 and spent her active career with the Channel Squadron. Obsolescent following the 1873 commissioning of the mastless and more capable HMS Devastation, she was placed in reserve in 1875, and was "paid off" - decommissioned - in 1883.

Once I went for a self guided tour of the USS North Carolina, a WW2 battleship that served in the Pacific. I managed to step over a rope barrier and sneak off the tourist trail... Well, needless to say I actually got lost and had no idea where I was (and I've explored huge buildings, like power plants and steel mills for example), this ship was a labyrinth, I didn't have a clue how to get back (but didn't care much honestly, how many times in life do we get the opportunity)
Only 25% of the ship was open to the public, I got lost in the other 75% (still A LOT to see regardless). There were around 100+ tourists on the ship when I got there, I didn't see a single soul for a good 30 minutes after I snuck away. They still had some military personnel maintaining the ship all these years. I ran into a Navy guy up on a ladder doing electrical work, that's when I knew for sure I wasn't supposed to be there... he looked at me, I nodded, he nodded back and kept on working, none of us said a word, and I went on my way, like we never saw each other 😅 ...He was the only person I saw for an entire hour wondering around trying to find my way back lol. It was a blast.
After all that time, I stepped into a random hallway and seen a barrier rope at the end, I stepped over back to the 'tourist line', giving me weird looks, they had no idea how glad I was to see complete strangers lol. I was lost for an hour, everything starts to look the same. I did get a bit nervous at the end. Later on I talked to a different Navy guy and told him what I did, he told me it's easy to get lost, they have a navigating system for this exact reason with numbers and letters painted on the walls to find your way around. He tried teaching me for next time I visit lol.
I was surprised how (naturally) unsafe it is, even in the tourist areas, and they just let us roam around unattended. This place was very laid back. Such an amazing thing to see. It was like stepping into a time capsule. All original. Nothing was restored but the deck outside, just well maintained for 80 years. Everything still there and it all still worked! All the original electrical, equipment, ventilation, toilets, etc everything still worked. Everything you'd find on an 80 year all battle ship, still there from WW2 and working. I'll never forget it.

21:30 "there seems to be a lack of children in here, which is good"... 21:50 "what were you saying?"😂 I just found this channel, great tour, personally, I love old ships! If you love old ships, and do a lot of museum videos, I don't know if you've been to the U.S. state of South Carolina or not, but there is no shortage of history in South Carolina, I love Charleston! If you're ever in Charleston visit Patriots Point, (technically in Mount Pleasant, but still in Charleston Harbor). They have the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, and the frigate USS Laffey, both WW2 ships that saw a lot of action. Since the last time I was there, they added some exhibits, I need to go back! The only thing is, they useta have a submarine there you could walk through, the USS Clamagore, but they scrapped her... Wish they could restored her instead!😥

While patrolling the channel how often would Warrior use her sails? With a good wind how much did effect her top speed?

just saw this old post on urban explorer ( Harry Jul 10, 2021 at 13:31
By pure coincidence, I have just spoken to the owners of the manor house that used to be owned by the RAF which has the access shaft into the bunker.
    Bit of context:
My uncle and aunt own a house with a large garden which they open for charity a few times a year. This year, I was helping out just at the begining and one of the first people to come in were the new owners of the manor. The manor itself is not in good condition as the RAF have not been very good at maintaining it, however, they did tell me that the bunker is open twice a year. I have looked into it very breifly and have not been able to find anything, however, it is worth looking for.

Brilliant tour Matt, Warrior was away for refit when I was in the mob so never got to see it, get round the Victory if you can on your next trip, much better, it's still a commisioned ship so is manned by RN personel rather than actors, my mate was drafted to it, had to learn all the history and take an exam to do the tours!

You can clearly see where they broke the lock to get into this place. Bunch of jobless criminals. They finally got reported to the local police yesterday. People are going through the other videos to notify the owner of properties that have been previously broken into and vandalized by the hosts of this channel.
