My wife has an E power Qashquai. Excellent vehicle. My wife is severely disabled (she has the car on Motability) and the E power frees her from the terror of the charging point lottery away from home.
Your comment was eye-opening. Thank you. Until now, I've never thought about the challenges in outdoor charging for people with disabilities. Indeed, it doesn't suit everybody.
I had a very high spec'd e-power last week as a rental whilst my own car was being repaired following a bump. Overall I was impressed, you sit quite high and it has a nice smooth ride and plenty of power. It feels well made and good quality inside. The numerous external cameras were a nice feature. However a couple of things really niggled me. Whilst using Apple Car Play, I found it impossible to change radio stations!! I can assure you that's really, really annoying. The auto wipers were absolutely rubbish, and on a rainy day I was forever having to toggle the switch to clear the window. Also, the firm seats were, after a short while, not very comfortable. But as I say, an overall very good car.. but for nearly £40,000 it ought to be!! My own family car is a very highly spec'd Golf Mk7, and I was pleased to get back into it. I should also add that I have a Porsche sports car, and when that is being serviced Porsche always give me a Macan. Now, my point is that if I were in the market for a car like that there's no way I'd pay the extra for the Porsche, which seems very similar to me in many ways to the Nissan (albeit lacking the pace and powerful engine sound), but much, much more expensive to buy and no doubt run.
I have a Renault Scenic 2014, & the wipers are terrible, like you I have to in light rain keep flicking it too wipe mile after mile. The manual with it's selective gap is the best to have, but oh know not the French. I also hate auto dim on rear view mirror, if when in town all you see are headlights, when seeing the lanes behind you is essential is best & out on the road you can shock horror just flick the mirror for night driving. Manual seat adjustment is best than more electrics adjusting that will go wrong.
Fantastic review, very in-depth which is just what you need when considering such a purchase. I've actually ordered my Nissan Qashqai Nconnecta Epower with glass roof, should arrive next week. Thanks again.
Good review honest and fair. I took one out for test drive end of may and e-power tekna. Having tried many makes of this style of car found this excellent for head room did not have to duck getting in or out (I have neck issues and can't bend neck down) the drive was excellent smooth and quiet with smooth power delivery. Brilliant trunk space gets my wifes extra large wheel chair no problems. So I ordered the e-power tekna on the spot. Now have to wait till end September for delivery. Only complaint is no CD player 😡
You will love it it is SUCH a good car..we have had ours 3 months and its just so good! With so many great features and superb to drive. Much more powerful than you think too! We get 900 - 1000 KM to the tank ( we live in the Netherlands) which is great on 57 litres!
My test drive was this week and I had the similar experience after a mixed drive. I was first in a crowded road around the shopping centers and then went out to the motorway. Did max 100km/h. My 2 passenger friends gave positive feedback also (my buddy and wife). It was tekna plus epower.
Excellent review. As a Qashqai 4wd 2-litre diesel driver, I am a little ambivalent about EV's. My next door neighbour has a MG ev and had to wait 3 months for a dented door to be repaired. My daughter has a Tesla (which she calls the 'milk float' due to the constant overnight recharging) which she had for full tax relief purposes and is adequate for visiting clients around the West Midlands. For domestic and pleasure purposes she reverts to a Mazda MX5 diesel for safety and reliability, especially for her young children. I do rely on the 4WD option which notably helped out of a flash flood in the middle of Wales. Although the E Power is very attractive, I would opt for the Mild Hybrid technology, 4WD powertrain.
Thanks for sharing! Although, do find it funny to think that your daughter would pick the Masda for the family and safety haha. Don't think that's as practical nor as safe as the Tesla? Of course, when it comes to long distances, without wanting to stop, it's the easier option.
Surely have a single power train (electric) and an optimised petrol engine charger is the simplest way to configure a hybrid. No flipping the drive train between multiple power sources.
@@TotallyEVOn the Renault Austral, that does their hybrid the other more complicated way, how does the driver differentiate the way it drives ie EV and ICE driven. The ePower is always in EV electric driving, so does the Austral have 2 different driver experience, oh it's electric, oh now it's an ICE? Hope that makes sense.
3:08 - inflating? do the manufacturers decide what figures get quoted? or do they all do a standard test which gives a result they have to publish? could it be the standard test that is at fault here rather than a case of manufacturers "inflating" numbers?
That's a good question. It should all be done via a standard test, but given the variances from manufacturers, it would seem it's not always what it seems. Ie. when you have some quoting 215-250mpg figures in the mixed WLTP test cycle, when in reality it'll get between 40-70mpg, it does make you wonder!

It can get a little confused when slowing up. It sometimes cuts the engine prematurely, before restarting. I just turn that feature off, as it can be a little disconcerting. It might just be a software problem on my particular Qashqai. Everything else about it, is brilliant.
The Qashqai was designed, developed and built in Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK. In that respect, it is one of the only truly British car, in mass production. Something for us Brits to be proud of. 🙂🇬🇧
Just got mine. It's complicated to begin with (manual is just short of 500 pages in English), & after a few days it gets better as you learn to drive with Regen braking. Simple in it's complex, you always drive in EV mode, even in Eco it has good acceleration like my old 1600cc Scenic auto. I love it.
Nissan has never had a problem with reliability in Japan. Their image in Japan is urban and sophisticated. They always do something very unique and interesting. I really don't know what happened in North America. I suspect they sold the wrong type of cars to the wrong portion of the population.
Its worth mentioning that French cars depreciate Highly in value the most than its competitors as you have mentioned Citroen's for example. Just a heads up.
I was confused between Rav4 hybrid and epower. I ruled it out after miscalculating mpg for my epower Note. but I ran calculator agan it is giving me 58 mpg.. and am thrilled. So now confused again...?? I should just get Nissan.. as I owned regular Qashqai in the past and it was awesome..
thx for very detailed review. I have one question though. I did a test drive, and al modes I tried have that small gap of 1 sec btw pushing the pedal of acc and car responding to it, why is that? is that normal ? I really didnt like the feeling. did you notice the same thing too or it was just model I tried in my country?
We're pickung up our 2024 E Power Tekna Automatic 1.5 next week, the red that has a beautiful orangy tinge to it, cant wait! Did you base your MPG in the mid range or Eco mode please? Ours will be in Eco mode. Cheers for thisn ❤
Interesting numbers on fuel economy. Most reviews of Epower mention disappointing fuel economy but you seem quite impressed😮 Are seeing something that nearly all the reviewers missed😅
Unfortunately, we can't comment about the other reviewers' testing methodologies. Ours, however, are the same across the 70+ electrified vehicles that have been tested. Might be worth asking the others to see how they got their figures - of course, that's if they respond to you!
Hi thinking of leasing either the qashqai epower Nconnecta model or a cupra formentor v2 1.5 petrol model. Mainly gonna be driven around town. They are around the same price but the formentor has a higher spec heated seats and steering wheel etc. Which would you recommend 🤷. Please help
Be happy altough dissapointing , it's covered under warranty and it could have been Tesla. They are recalling abot 500 000 model 3 and S over safety issues.
Please suggest me if having the epedal option on at all times is a good idea. I get 43-45mpg with that mode. Would you recommend turing it off in motorways and back on 30mph roads?
Would just depend on how you drive, but on the motorway, it's probably easier on your knees and feet to have it disabled. In town however, having it on can help recoup energy, thus maximizing on efficiency!
No, is the short answer! E-pedal is ideal for town driving. D+Eco is the best option for rural driving. Intelligent use of the available modes will reward you with over 60mpg
Great review though I do have to laugh at criticising the rear passenger opening as restricting the view for passengers; it's a window; they can usually see through it! Furthermore traditionally rear passenger window opening limitations were a safety feature for young kids to prevent arms hanging out or worse still bodies hanging out. Must also laugh at the absence of a ski-hatch in the back seats. Truthfully, how many Brits are going to carry skis!?!
Hello: I am confused between the Mercedes GLB 200d and the Qashqai e Power (N-connecta)....out of the two which one would you recommend....thanks so much
HOW DO YOU ADJUST THE INSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR?? IS IT AUTO OR MANUAL BY HANDS? CANT FIND ANY BUTTONS ALSO TOO HARD TO ADJUST DOESNT MOVE BY HAND REPLY PLEASE
So there's no Auto Dimmer? I hope so, because in town auto dimmer stops you seeing everything behind like lanes etc, seeing only headlights is unsafe. Auto wipers are not great either. Manual is best.
Switch on the ePedal mode. How is that a problem? You just press the button on the central console. Takes 1 sec of your life. I think you've been driving to many cars & have lost your sense of proportion. Putting on your seat belt is much harder yet that's not a problem for you, but pressing that button on the console is. I prefer the choice.
Intruiged by the concept. Everybody knows the grid is going to have issues supporting all the charging stations. Tesla is deleting charging stations and as the profits fall so will others meaning no gas stations for battery EV users. Everybody knows the ICE engine is most efficient when it picks a steady speed and stays there. E power sounds like a nice transition until battery technology improves. No range anxiety, lots of fuel stations but you can run the car on a smaller engine meaning better fuel economy and fewer emissions. This is technology the masses will accept.
A proper coast mode is ideal as e pedal is like engine braking in 1st gear of ICE. Not to mention when going down hill, you may/will require having to use accerator which can be a waste of power instead of a proper downhill recharge.
Depending on the warranty for the range battery and other electrics , it's epower that has the edge, price wise it's now or never to buy the outgoing model as the reamaing stocks will be heavily discounted
@@daviddudas5392 didnt buy a discounted old style one, but brand new on a 24 plate due to finding the warranty on the new electric E fandango is solely a nonconfident 3 years or 60 k miles whichever comes first, so after that ,your on your own in repair or ££££ expensive replacement costs if it arises.
I tried the Honda ZR-V great car but didn't buy it as the passenger seat was too low for my wife and didn't come with height adjustment, unlike the drivers seat. Real shame something so insignificant stopped me owning the Honda.
Toyota uses epicyclic technology to connect the engine to the road wheels and Honda uses a clutch to connect the engine to the road wheels at higher speeds as a pure unconnected electric system has a lot of losses.
So you spend up to 40k to get just over 50mpg? My 2008 quashqai diesel can do that and I bought it 4 years ago for 2k is the e power worth it, definitely not.
Dissing every regular size adult calling the back suitable for children 🤣and if you are hearing music or talking with other people the engine sound is unnoticeable.
It seems an odd vehicle given that after 2035 only EVs and plug in hybrids will be sold, so Nissan have spent millions of R&D on a hybrid vehicle that will become obsolete?
The key words here are "only EVs and plug in hybrids will be sold", not "only driven"! Besides, that fact applies to all hybrid vehicles in the market, not to mention it's a long time away.
Indeed, but the person here is referring to the hybrid technology being different than regular PHEVs which usually net better MPG on shorter trims and have more eco credentials than self charging models
@@mariopolchert Yes, its standard hybrids that will be phased out with ICE cars, but they will last many years, I have a Toyota myself. I would say this Nissan falls into the standard hybrid category as it dose not have a significant electric only range! so its a lot of R&D etc for the 3 new car sales cycles between 2023-30 (eg only 3x 3 year leases) PHEVs with an EV range of at least 30 miles will continue to be sold until 2035.
You totally missed the fact it's a global platform/vehicle. Not only in EU you'll be allowed to drive an EREV vehicle maybe in 2045, but elsewhere in the world you'll be able to buy fuel vehicles well past 2035. Plus, e-POWER vehicles are being sold since 2016, which means it's not a new project. I guess it's totally fine to spend money on research for something you'll be able to sell for decades. Isn't it?
Can't believe you haven't mentioned that the Qashqai doesn't come with a spare wheel. Massive own goal by Nissan, along with other makers, to give you a tube of gunge that only gets you 50 miles should you get a puncture. I would never buy a car that doesn't come with a spare wheel even if it's a 'space saver' type.
I’ve had mine since January and I can’t believe how much fuel it uses considering the engine only charges the batteries plus it’s depreciated 10k in 6 months I owe 36k on it and it’s worth 26k now with 5000 miles on it don’t buy one
I purchased it a week ago, and it has a fuel efficiency of 32 mpg. Previously, I owned a Qashqai diesel that achieved 56 mpg. I am quite disappointed with the new car's performance.
All hyrbid cars are fuel efficiant in city driving the most after that country side. They are all terrible at motorways. Any prolonged driving over say 90 km/h like commuting to work 5 days a week is terrible for any hybrid. If one drives like that they need a lean diesel, those are the best for regular highway driving. Seems you didnt do you reasearch and bought a car with an engine that doesent suit the driving you do at all. That is your fault, not Nissan´s.
how mad is this...a petrol engine 1.5 Ltr charging batteries which then power electric motors. We are supposed to be reducing carbon in 2024 and this car can seriously not be aligned to that!!!
"We are supposed to be reducing carbon in 2024" Net Zero is the biggest scam going as are EV's. As the engine is running in the QQ far less than a standard ICE it's at least more desireable and works very well if used in eco mode.

Agree, they could easily fit a 60+Kwh battery pack in a vehicle that size and make a great EV, getting rid of all that complicated expensive to service ICE hybrid lump!
@@jamed63 But then it would be an EV, wouldnt it? It amazes me to see how many logiclally challanged people are commenting on Hybrid cars. Not everyone lives where thay can charge a car. That means Plugins and Ev´s are gone, not an option. The option left is petrol, diesel and hybrid. Many countries, mine included, tax diesels to hell. A normal diesel car would cost over 1000 pounds a year in tax here. Regular gas car is viable but i pay 2,3 eur a litre and a suv gas car will eat close to a litre of gas every 10 km. So thats where hybrids comes in. My Kia Niro does about 70 mpg spring - summer- autumn and about 50 mpg in the worst 2-3 winter months. Tax is 36 eur a year instead of the over 1000 eur a year it would be with a diesel engine. And btw hyrbids are for city and countryside driving. If you commute on motorways a hybrid is a terible choice

The RAV4, like the Suzuki Across is better when it comes to efficiency but it's equally a lot more expensive.
@@TotallyEV Nissan Qashqai is almost 60K NZD too!! but thanks something to keep in mind.. wanted that for a long time
thx for very detailed review. I have one question though. I did a test drive, and al modes I tried have that small gap of 1 sec btw pushing the pedal of acc and car responding to it, why is that? is that normal ? I really didnt like the feeling. did you notice the same thing too or it was just model I tried in my country?
Thanks! Unless you were flooring it, that shouldn't be the case; the whole point of e-Power is to give you a more seamless driving experience.
Great video. Thank you.
Pleasure, glad you liked it!
We're pickung up our 2024 E Power Tekna Automatic 1.5 next week, the red that has a beautiful orangy tinge to it, cant wait!
Did you base your MPG in the mid range or Eco mode please? Ours will be in Eco mode. Cheers for thisn ❤
Congratulations!
MPG tests are always done with regular driving and in normal mode.
well done a full polluting ev...
Interesting numbers on fuel economy. Most reviews of Epower mention disappointing fuel economy but you seem quite impressed😮
Are seeing something that nearly all the reviewers missed😅
Unfortunately, we can't comment about the other reviewers' testing methodologies. Ours, however, are the same across the 70+ electrified vehicles that have been tested.
Might be worth asking the others to see how they got their figures - of course, that's if they respond to you!
How does it do in very very cold -20 degrees? Would motor scream in 4000rpm to make enough elecricity?😮
Please help
Cupra for more spirited driving, Nissan for efficiency (especially in town)
@@TotallyEV thanks for the reply its for the wife so the qashqai i think lol
@asifmunshi812 sounds sensible!
Google e power faults and see how many have failed generators mine failed at 2200 miles
Interesting, thanks for sharing!
Be happy altough dissapointing , it's covered under warranty and it could have been Tesla. They are recalling abot 500 000 model 3 and S over safety issues.
Google tesla faults...no comparison to this brilliant nissan
Since new generator car has been brilliant.
Glad to hear it!
Do the wing mirrors fold I automatically?
Yes you can choose to have them fold in and out when you turn the engine on/off
Or have them fold in and out when you lock/unlock the car
Glad you enjoyed the video.
As for the comments, well the vehicle isn't solely sold in the UK plus people might use it for other purposes!
Does the glass roof have a sun blind???
Yes it does.
yes
Hello: I am confused between the Mercedes GLB 200d and the Qashqai e Power (N-connecta)....out of the two which one would you recommend....thanks so much
Not tried the Mercedes, so can't comment, sorry!
Which blue is this? Just looking at ordering. Thanks
Magnetic blue but I think this is the two tone blue with black roof option...
HOW DO YOU ADJUST THE INSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR?? IS IT AUTO OR MANUAL BY HANDS? CANT FIND ANY BUTTONS ALSO TOO HARD TO ADJUST DOESNT MOVE BY HAND REPLY PLEASE
By hand, don't use CAPS.
@@TotallyEV BUT ITS HARD TO MOVE IT ITS LIKE STUCK!!
So there's no Auto Dimmer? I hope so, because in town auto dimmer stops you seeing everything behind like lanes etc, seeing only headlights is unsafe. Auto wipers are not great either. Manual is best.
Just one quick question, as the E-power has more horses than the MH why is the top speed of the MH around 120MPH whilst the E-power is only 105MPH?
You'll need to ask Nissan that, haha. Not sure!
Bmw 1 sries 118i m sport or e power ? Wich one?
I don't kwon wich one to choose
Two very different vehicles. The 1 series is less comfortable, practical and economical, but is a lot more fun to drive.
@TotallyEV Hi thanks for replying so you saying is better Nissan Qashqai e power?, I'm interested more in Nissan to be honest .
Would suggest doing some research on both, but for the points listed above the Nissan would be more practical.
@@TotallyEV Thanks 😊
No worries!
Ironically, think you missed the point "I prefer choice".
How come e-Power is not available here in North America? And I read from a site that it looks like the Qashqai line is to be discontinued?
Not sure, sorry!
Trying this in Ireland,,so far pretty impressive hitting 5.1 litres per 100km.
Depending on the warranty for the range battery and other electrics , it's epower that has the edge, price wise it's now or never to buy the outgoing model as the reamaing stocks will be heavily discounted
indeed, came here because i saw those discounts when walked nearby a dealership
@@daviddudas5392 didnt buy a discounted old style one, but brand new on a 24 plate due to finding the warranty on the new electric E fandango is solely a nonconfident 3 years or 60 k miles whichever comes first, so after that ,your on your own in repair or ££££ expensive replacement costs if it arises.
Honda ZR-V e:Hev LX or Qashqai epower, can u plz make a comparison video?
Unlikely a direct comparison will be made but if the new Honda comes in for review, I'll remember to reference the Nissan!
I tried the Honda ZR-V great car but didn't buy it as the passenger seat was too low for my wife and didn't come with height adjustment, unlike the drivers seat. Real shame something so insignificant stopped me owning the Honda.
Thanks for sharing!
How can it be efficient to convert one energy source to another? Surely the benefit of epower is ev like driveability.
You'll have to ask Nissan for that, but yes the driving feel is a selling point too
Toyota uses epicyclic technology to connect the engine to the road wheels and Honda uses a clutch to connect the engine to the road wheels at higher speeds as a pure unconnected electric system has a lot of losses.
And. Why not wireless android connection as with the iPhones?
Not sure, you'll have to ask Nissan!
Why do car manufacturers state boot sizes in litres rather than cubic feet, as I was raised on as A 79 year old disabled person?
Most of the world uses litres, but you can always do the conversation yourself!
@@TotallyEV but. What about the USA? Feet. Inches. Miles. Etc? Oh. And. M P G. not litres.
@user-pj2kq9qr7c USA isn't the whole world lol. MPG is what we quote in the UK, but honestly would prefer litres.
@@TotallyEV I guess that you are much younger than me? D O B. 13/12/44
@user-pj2kq9qr7c haha yes.
So you spend up to 40k to get just over 50mpg? My 2008 quashqai diesel can do that and I bought it 4 years ago for 2k is the e power worth it, definitely not.
How many miles must you drive before you break even, financially ?
My 15 year old Peugeot 1.6 diesel does 55mpg & would pull your socks off ! . not realy sure what the point of burning fuel to run a battery car is !
Well, it does help with this particular vehicle, but yes not the best in that department regardless of its powertrain.
And your 15 year old Peugeot is polluting the planet! That is how this technology is helping while your car is not. I average 62 mpg with our Qashqai
And full of technology l suppose!😂😂😂😂
Great advert! - Westbay, Doha, Qatar
❤🇶🇦 😊
Certainly not an advert, but glad you enjoyed the review!
Would it be worth waiting for the new Toyota CHR before deciding?
Not sure on the Toyota tbh
Dissing every regular size adult calling the back suitable for children 🤣and if you are hearing music or talking with other people the engine sound is unnoticeable.
Well, no. Just giving context. And you'll hear the engine especially on a lockdown, that was the point.
It seems an odd vehicle given that after 2035 only EVs and plug in hybrids will be sold, so Nissan have spent millions of R&D on a hybrid vehicle that will become obsolete?
That's a good point. Presuming the lifecycle started long before the bans came about?
Isn't it?
Can I say that this is a hybrid car
Yes
Can't believe you haven't mentioned that the Qashqai doesn't come with a spare wheel. Massive own goal by Nissan, along with other makers, to give you a tube of gunge that only gets you 50 miles should you get a puncture. I would never buy a car that doesn't come with a spare wheel even if it's a 'space saver' type.
Many, many don't. In fact of the 100+ vehicle reviewed only 2 had one.
This quashqai is nice but engine choice is terrible bad!! Nissan acts like they wanted to have bad sale
Why bad?
no diesel offerings and consumption of this new one are actually higher then old previous one which got better performance too@@shion3145
I’ve had mine since January and I can’t believe how much fuel it uses considering the engine only charges the batteries plus it’s depreciated 10k in 6 months I owe 36k on it and it’s worth 26k now with 5000 miles on it don’t buy one
What's your MPG and where do you drive?
Learn to drive intelligently over 60mpg is easily achievable
I purchased it a week ago, and it has a fuel efficiency of 32 mpg. Previously, I owned a Qashqai diesel that achieved 56 mpg. I am quite disappointed with the new car's performance.
Nice drive with electric, but it is a petrol car with all the expense and pollution... new mazda EV with a wankle REX is a better option.
Interesting thoughts!
The engine kicks in as soon as you go above 30 mph and it’s noisy to get 50 mpg you would have to be sat on the motorway for hours
Was in our mixed driving test, so not motorway only!
Your driving style is the problem!
Rubbish!
Absolutely zero reason to have for company car drivers due to the 29% BIK
Yup lots has changed in BIK
it costs me 2p per mile to run my ev charging at home off peak....this stupid thing you cant plug in.
OK, so what car do you suggest for the millions of us that cannot charge at home? (We live in terraced housing, flats etc. with on-street parking).
@@williamcowan6103 don't get an ev
I’d rather spend 5 min filling up than. Plugging in somewhere for much longer
@@DaddyDucati i have an ev , i only charge cheaply at home,
how mad is this...a petrol engine 1.5 Ltr charging batteries which then power electric motors. We are supposed to be reducing carbon in 2024 and this car can seriously not be aligned to that!!!
Ha, indeed it's an odd configuration
"We are supposed to be reducing carbon in 2024" Net Zero is the biggest scam going as are EV's. As the engine is running in the QQ far less than a standard ICE it's at least more desireable and works very well if used in eco mode.
Not worth the price, my etech hybrid easily gets around 60-70 mpg
Fair enough, not tried that yet!
Better to buy a Honda.

Hybrid = crap?? seriously?
