So beautifully carved and smooth Sandstone walls Toby, safe as SHIT to , not a fallen rock in sight untill the tunnell turned to rock. Cool video Thanks.
It really is a work of art this one isn't it, as yes, safe as houses till the broken ground, it will be there for a thousand years. Thanks for the comment ;-)
As kids, we spent many days exploring tunnels and drives in the Black Hill workings in Ballarat. Some of them were quite hairy as we were often crawling or squeezing our way over roof falls. Also, a number of them had branches and there was always a fear of getting lost. Parents would have had pups if they knew where we were going.
Black Hill is still a great spot, although most have collapsed or been filled. Great way to grow up exploring like that ;-) I'll be doing a video or two in Black Hill soon.
It is indeed, I'd really like to get all the way to the end but there is so much silt and clay washed in it's impossible. We may tinker with a remote control or wire control car and a go pro at some point, just need the $ for the go pro.
A very clean cut Adit. At 3.11 and 3.30 it looks like a count of 5 scribed into the top of the tunnel on the brown wall. A count of 5 written as IIII with a line through it. There are 2 holes above it which look like holes for explosives .
Hi Toby me again Chris . I was trawling through TH-cam, and someone recorded you doing a GOLD POUR at Soverighn hill. I had no idea you were involved with them . Prety cool. 😊
Hi Chris, it's been a few years but I worked there for about 11 years, Haven't cast 100oz in a pour since, I'd better find richer reefs! 🤣 I haven't seen that video, I'll see if I can find it.
Hi Toby. I have just found an adit running east to west. It goes through many veins of quartz. The quartz is very ‘dirty’. Extremely heavy in mineralisation. Heaps of ironstone. There is also black sheet and coal looking stone. A huge amount of character in there. So why would they dig such a long adit east west crossing over these veins? Thanks mate.
Hi, that would be a prospecting adit, East-West to intersect North-South reefs and see what grades they carry. These days you'd drill it, in those days they would sample in test holes and trenches but to test underground they had to tunnel. Sounds like great ground! The carbon and lots of ironstone is a great sign for gold!
@ awesome part of the world mate. I’m new to this with PI detectors, panning and exploring. This mine is not listed in trilobites or Geovic. But I haven’t seen an adit this rich in minerals regardless of how many mines there are here.
@@vsvnrg3263 Cool, thank you. I wonder how long this one has been sitting here, it'll be there for a while to come I'd say. It's full of bullet holes, someone's had a good crack with a 303 or similar.
We had a rescued wombat as a pet so I understand your fear of them
They'd be a cheeky pet wouldn't they? Yes, I don't mind at all on the surface but sharing tight confined spaces with them, no thanks!
What a beautiful looking drive. It's almost like they put effort into the aesthetics of the mine.
It really is a work of art isn't it! It's a pity the end is silted up, it would be nice to see it.
Yep in a confined crawl space the last thing you want to is come face to face with a angry wombat lol
No, it doesn't strike me as much fun at all!

Nicely presented, great looking structure.
Thanks mate, it really is a great looking mine, it's a pity it doesn't seem to go anywhere.

Thats a long adit 😳
It would be interesting to know where they were headed.

It does indeed! Yes shot holes, they'd have been using either blackpowder or dynamite/gelignite or the like depending on when this was put in.

That is amazing. Did they dig that tunnel just with picks and shovels? Thanks for the video
It is pretty cool. They would have blasted the bulk out then picked and crowbarred it to the shape it is now, hard and skilled work.

@ thanks man. I’ll keep you posted. It is amongst a large AU area between Beechworth and Yackandandah.

It's a Morris Minor
Thanks for the ID, it may be a few years too late to do it up but good to know what it is, they are 1960's aren't they?
@@billingmetals ,first released 1948. they were making them in up to 1971.
