A must for sure. I am always surprised to find buddies that don't have one when they have owned and worked on bikes for years. The tool is a life saver!
More importantly is using the right bit. Virtually all Japanese bikes, and some European bikes as well do NOT use Phillips head screws, but rather JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) head screws. You'll very quickly strip a JIS screw using a Phillips screwdriver. I'd suggest that many times people resort to an impact driver, it's because they're using a Phillips screwdriver on a JIS screw and strip it out - if they'd used the proper size JIS screwdriver to begin with, they most likely wouldn't have stripped the screw.
Awesome tool tips, I got taught how to do my spokes years ago by sound, pretty good at it, but the spoke torque wrench is so much better, I am a tool guy and can’t help myself when it comes to tools, really a fan of the Tusk tools for price n quality, save on anger management lol, so true though, my biggest issue is alway got to have high quality which was normally high cost! I like tools that last a lifetime, plus got to have a good set of T handles as well. 🤙
If you work on older Japanese bike that have a lot of Phillips heads. Get a JIS Phillips head screw driver. US ones have different angle and will strip out easier.
@@rmatvmc Those impact tools are pretty darn good, but the JIS tip for the driver on it or just the screw driver alone with save some headaches. Also with driver you can put a wrench on the screw driver to turn it and tap the drive with a dead blow keeping pressure in a pinch if you can't find your tool, but the tool works way better at that.
I sure this goers without saying but two TRQ. wrenches, ft. Lbs and inch lbs. of course. Full T Handel from 8mm-14mm at min. Mic. Calipers, dial indicator. Oh the list goes on I love tools, feeler gauges for valve clearance, and one last one portable hand or battery small tire pump.
Thanks! I personally used to use vice grips (about the same as the clutch tool you are referring to) and then I got a real press. that is why I insisted it made the list. The press is much easier, and more importantly, way more precise!....Justin
Nice work guys, ya'll are always dead on. Maybe one little tool to add on is a tool to lube cables, but I know there is plenty of opinions. Keep up the good work, we like it!
A question about the impact driver: does it rust over time? I have bought a Unior one which sells for around 100 euros or so, supposed to be quality.... The head rusted to shit after 3 months while still in the box.
super easy, fun and rewarding to make your own exhaust puller. obviously easier to buy one. but making my own was more satisfying. all you need is a cheap welder and some scrap. pretty easy and fun to make your own t-handle set too
Funny you say that. I made a spring puller in my high school welding class over 20 years ago and still use it today! However, when a nice one is only $5.99, it is hard to want to make the time to build one. I am like you though and like to tinker in my shop and a spring puller is quite simple! ..... Justin
I've figured out that to get the springs off the pipe all u need is a zip tie to tie around the spring hook and then some pliers to hold on to the zip tie and no need for spring pullers
AIDEN WELLS by the time you have done that, I’d had the pipe on and off and backwards, for the cost of a spring puller tool seriously it’s not expensive and lays for itself in no time.
Maarten Van Vliet seriously dude, $5.99 Yes you can use pliers or long noose that will wreck you spring hooks in short time, do it right tools bought well are inexpensive and last a life time, if you can’t buy something like this, look after your bikes and they will look after you, same with tools, it’s pretty simple. www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/989/3028/Tusk-Exhaust-Spring-Tool
How do you know your setting the correct torque on your spokes even with the tool if the threads on the spokes are gummed up or rusty??? well I know it easy too say keep them clean but that not so easy when you drive in mud all the time.
First get a socket wrench and philips head and flat head drivers. Get a needle nose pliers, vise grips and also a rubber mallet also a torque wrench don’t get these fancy tools get the basics and you good also tire iron for changing tires
I thing Tusk have a guy on a computer with one job, designing new tools. If the poor guy doesnt come up with a motorcycle related tool every now and then thats him fired.
I use o ring chains and never used a chain press. It's only a pain in the butt if your an idiot, I didnt even realize people struggle. Now the clip pin would be handy.
C'mon, really? A sag scale is a top 5 tool you shouldn't live without?! I can think of a dozen tools not on this list that are way more useful than a stupid ass sag scale!
Too 5 tools on the trail: pipe wrench, hammer, plumb bob, cordless bandsaw, and a spork
LMAO !!!
My favorite tool in my box by far is the mini t-handle by tusk. I use it more than any of my other tools and it’s probably one of the cheapest I have.
Thanks! I agree 100% . By far my most used tools....Justin
What about a lift stand? Don't know if it's considered a tool, but boy it sure does make things easier!
I agree and use one myself! ... Justin
You forgot a bottle opener, I like to pound a lot of beers when I go riding at my local track, so I always make sure I at least two.
What about a little Bong - at least 2.
Yup we have that exact impact driver and we use it all the time for reservoir covers bc those philips screws are always hard to take off
A must for sure. I am always surprised to find buddies that don't have one when they have owned and worked on bikes for years. The tool is a life saver!

I have none of these and haven't had a suicidal thought since yesterday.

If it rusts, I don't need it.

I really like this kid, I buy alot from Rocky Mountain because of him. GREAT videos and info.
If you work on older Japanese bike that have a lot of Phillips heads. Get a JIS Phillips head screw driver. US ones have different angle and will strip out easier.
It's a great tip! (pun intended) Thanks for sharing.

I love a T handle socket driver. It makes spinning out the bolts for bodywork so much easier than a ratchet.
Those are all good too! I'm a tool junkie too man. You can never have enough. Thanks for watching! ~ Chase
If you have the motion Pro clutch holder pliers you can use that to press on a chain master link.
Thanks! I personally used to use vice grips (about the same as the clutch tool you are referring to) and then I got a real press. that is why I insisted it made the list. The press is much easier, and more importantly, way more precise!....Justin
Check the Super T Handle Metric set, a compact new design that solves the rotational problem when torque is not needed (at Amazon).
Nice work guys, ya'll are always dead on. Maybe one little tool to add on is a tool to lube cables, but I know there is plenty of opinions. Keep up the good work, we like it!
Thanks. no doubt there are more, and I totally agree on the cable luber. That is a tool you must have!
The impact driver is essential, everything else is more of a preference
BEST method for spring pulling is to put a zip tie around the spring and tie the other end around the closed end of a wrench and just pull with that
VERY Useful video thank you! 👍
A question about the impact driver: does it rust over time? I have bought a Unior one which sells for around 100 euros or so, supposed to be quality.... The head rusted to shit after 3 months while still in the box.
*Jon* they will not rust. I've had mine for over 4 years now and no rust. Hope this helps. Thanks
Tusk has saved my life 😆
1. Bike stand 2. Torque wrench. 3. Slide hammer. 4 micrometer 5. T handle. That list was maybe good for a too 20.

or the big fencing plirs with the crimping ends on it they grab onto the springs and dont let go

if the spoke is stuck, you can't. so you need to loosen, clean, and lube.
Digtal torque wrench?
I'm so glad that I had a spoke wrench at the track. turns out I was riding with a spoke completely screwed out.
Have all 5
An easy way to pull exhaust springs is just loop an old cable around the hook and pull

Did you mean torque wrench? They are definitely a tool you will want to have when working on your dirt bike!
My friend had an exhaust spring go in his thumb and put his thumbnail because he wasn't using a puller
I can't say I haven't bloodied some knuckles back in the day until I got a real spring puller. I made sure it made the list.....Justin
Sweeeeeet
Forget about torquing spokes....
Is duct tape considered a tool?
don't see why not!
Forgot the T handles
🔥
don't bother with the chain press shown... buy a chain rivet kit. more functions, much faster.
I thing Tusk have a guy on a computer with one job, designing new tools. If the poor guy doesnt come up with a motorcycle related tool every now and then thats him fired.
Spring puller, use a wire coat hanger
Why do you keep looking down? Do you not like making eye contact with the lens?
I use o ring chains and never used a chain press. It's only a pain in the butt if your an idiot, I didnt even realize people struggle. Now the clip pin would be handy.

Jay P like what? Legit question I’m new to bikes and I have a 10 year old that races flat track so I’m learning all I can.
