Hey great video and ideas! One quick suggestion/idea. Grab yourself another nut and keep it on that threaded post as a jam nut for when you change rests. That will hold much more securely than just threading the welded one on all the way.

Hi Ben, thanks for watching and commenting. A jam nut is a great idea! Cheers!

@@BillRockwoodWoodturning glad you think so! I came across your video looking for ideas to make my own extra long tool rest for my 40s era power king lathe. I’d love to have a dual post 24” one or something like that. To help making a baseball bat easier.

Bill nice video. Have the same HF tools, need to add inch or so onto a set of PSI toolsets I bought just a bit too short. Figured easier to add then a total fabrication. Look forward to the hollowing video.

Good Job... Had been thinking of making some tool rest. Just came back from SWAT and the ones there were out of my price range... OK I am cheap... I like the bolt idea...Keep up the good work.

Thank you - and I run to the "cheap" side as well! The bolt seems to be fine, got a strong weld, and useful for an interchangeable rest concept, but for a fixed rest, 1inch steel rod from speedymetal.com would be more affordable. Cheers!

Really like your Harbor Freight collection, mine is growing also!! Must ask, where do you buy your carbide cutter, I'm in the process of making some tools and looking for reasonably priced cutters?

Greetings Timothy, thanks for watching and commenting. I bought my carbide Cutters from Arizona carbide, or AZcarbide.com. Their pricing used to be a little better, but it's still pretty good, not as expensive as buying individual carbide from some of the retail places. Cheers!

I made something kind of the same, except i didn't do any welding, i tapped a hole in the post , counter sunk a hole in the rest and bolted the two together, using thread lock too

Thanks Lee, It was fun to try a little prototyping. Now for the testing phase. Cheers!

I am in awe!!!!!! You made the tool rests I've been dreaming of lately... but cannot afford. Problem; I can't weld and can't see saving up the pennies for basically "one job". But, for you, job well done. I am eager now to see more of your videos! (PS; have you made the banjo post arrangement for drilling into your work with indexing. My lathe has an indexer so I'm trying to figure out how to align a drill in such a way that it can drill into the side and fronts of some of my work. I know they make them, have you seen a certain English brand's version for many dollars?)

Nice tool rests, Bill. Have you had training in welding, or did you just pick it up?

Hi Rick, thanks for watching and commenting! And thanks again for putting together your monthly compendium of videos, so valuable! I'm self taught in welding (probably obvious), picked up out of necessity more or less. This was my first time trying tool rests, and I have a couple more I'd like to try. Keep on turning brother - Cheers!

PS; I'm not Mitsuko...who is my wife but somehow she got her name on here and if I try to make changes, Google wants to take over my universe....:>)

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. It definitely pays to have more projects for the welder than just a few tool rests if you're going to make that kind of investment. But once you do, you unlock a lot of possibilities. I added indexing to my lathe, the new lathe has it too, I haven't made the tool post thing yet, but on my list of things to do. Cheers!

Check out 1" drill rod from Speedymetal.com. comes in 36" length and should be better value.

Thanks for watching, and for the resource, I really wasn't sure if I had any local options, so I'll have to give these guys a try. Cheers!
