Floor's characteristic hair swirling (the Dutch Windmill) is in fact well rehearsed to not cause undue strain, she's worked with a physiotherapist to get the upper body and neck support just right. The song is fire, one of the heavier NW ones, and Floor and Marco work together really well.

In fact, the creation of Nightwish itself is inspired by Metallica. Tuomas said that he became a metal fan when he first attended a Metallica concert in 1992. And recently he said about them in an interview: "I don't think we [Nightwish] would be where we are at the moment without that band."

The reverse is also true. At Pinkpop 2022 James Hetfield came 3 hours early to see Nightwish. (edit: Hetfield being a fan of NW)

That's going too far for me. Yes, Metallica made Tuomas a metalhead. But for one thing, Nightwish wasn't planned as a metal band. For another, there was a metal boom in Finland when Nightwish was formed. It was fashionable to make metal music. Tuomas' metal band before Nightwish had nothing to do with Metallica either.

@@Mischnikvideos If you are inspired by something, it doesn't mean that you will try to copy it. Metallica may be the first metal band, but it will be followed by others who can shape music taste in a slightly different direction.
I don't see the point for you to argue with the words of Tuomas himself. He knows better which band influenced him than you do. And your opinion that he created a metal band because it was "fashionable" is just stupid on so many levels.

@@SokolRock Metallica play trah and heavy metal. Symphonic evolved from power metal and Tuomas added folk to it. The only connection to Metallica is going to a concert and the fact that it's metal.

    • @SokolRock

@@Mischnikvideos Symphonic metal (as well as Metallica) evolved from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) with bands like Iron Maiden. Power metal and thrash metal was just part of this evolution and the influence of power metal was only on a few Nightwish early songs. As for the direct influence of Metallica on Nightwish, as you can see, even Brandy noticed it.
But the main thing I want to say again is that the influence of a band doesn't mean that musicians should necessarily try to copy the music of their favorite bands. I remember how many famous, especially American, extreme metal musicians said in interviews that their first and favorite band that inspired them to become musicians was Kiss.

Nightwish Army Pittsburgh Division here. All Nightwish songs are long which is the reason they are not popular here in the US. I`ve been saying this for years that `It`s a Sin`` that they are not. Every member is a gift to the world!!

Oh, there is a nice bunch of heavier songs 😊
    Weak Fantasy (Tampere 2015)
    Noise and Tribal (Deichbrandt 2022)
Yours is an empty hope (Wembley/Mexic City 2015)
Wacken -13 show opener, Dark chest of wonders....
    You could start there.

Floor has been windmilling her whole career. I imagine by now her neck muscles are made from twists of blue steel. I heard a vocal coach once say that movements like that keep the vocal cords relaxed during a concert. 😊🤘

OK, if many NIghtwish songs are too light for you, check out Floor singing "Disdain" with her previous band ReVamp at Graspop. Quite a bit tougher than Nightwish.

And the band that all these metal bands bow down to is Black Sabbath. If you really want to hear the first real heavy metal song, do the original audio only of Black Sabbath, on the album of the same name, that song was shattering when it arrived in early 1970. Enjoy!

    Hi Brandy, greetings from UK
If you like more heavy sounding songs you could check out "Ghost River" from this concert, or "Yours Is An Empty Hope" from their Wembley concert, or maybe "Song Of Myself" also from this concert 😉
I also look forward to your reaction to their latest song that you saw advertised

I don't hear the Metallica comparison at all. If I have to make a wrong comparison then it's Iron Maiden. It's most likely the subgenre of heavy metal that Metallica also plays.

Metallica inspired a little. Tarja inspired? Heavily! They were going to be an acoustic folk band until they heard Tarja sing. They then realized they needed music as big as her voice. Thus. Symphonic metal was born

Tuomas doesn't look at other bands. He does HIS thing and if it reminds you of other bands, it's because you always associate metal with certain elements. In "The greatest show on Earth", Empuu plays a short piece from a Metallica song just before the end, but he introduced it himself. Metallica is only 2 dimensional compared to Nightwish.

    • @VF31Rules

That short piece from a Metallica song was the guitar riff from Enter Sandman.
