  • Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes react to news the New York Jets are meeting with Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers. This comes on the heels of reports that the Packers brass was growing increasingly “exhausted” with Rodgers. The Baltimore Ravens placed their non-exclusive franchise tag on QB Lamar Jackson after both sides could not agree on long term deal.

Actually he was factually wrong. Favre and Manning both had resurgent years and contended by switching teams at about 40. He also didn't see Brady's success in Tampa coming, so he has no ground to stand on. I hate Brady but anyone who really watches tape coulda told you Brady still had it and it was the Pats falling off not him. Similar situation here with Rodgers.
Rodgers is without a doubt one of the top 10 all time QBs, he's in that same tier with the multiple other QBs to successfully switch teams and bounce back pushing 40. He isn't half as banged up as Favre or Manning were at this age either. To act like Rodgers can't be a top 3-5 QB next year with health and a more talented team is just asinine.
Projecting Rodgers outside the top 10 is beyond moronic, it's straight up hating and Nick is going to end up with a whole bunch of egg on his face for that take.

Nick is right. It’s a huge risk with the non-exclusive tag because Lamar can wait to sign it. Then if Bal had any thoughts of matching it they would have to literally put there entire offseason on hold not even knowing what the contract will look like. That’s like planning to move in a new home and not even knowing what country it’ll be in.

    • @cnb3388
      @cnb3388 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There's a very real possibility that the best offer Lamar had from the Ravens before being tagged is better than the best deal he'll be able to negotiate with other teams under the non-exclusive age. The non-exclusive tag really stacks things in the Ravens' favor in terms of negotiations because all they have to do is match what another team is willing to pay on top of giving up two first round picks. As a Ravens fan I really hope Lamar gets his long term deal this year and stays in Baltimore. If we tagged him with the exclusive tag, we probably still wouldn't have gotten a long term deal done and we'd be back in this situation next year. It's all about letting Lamar test the market.

and that's being kind, both plays indoors, both have HCs on a

if Arthur Blank courted Deshaun Watson after 2yrs away from football

Now, the Ravens can't get more in return for Lamar Jackson because he's not under contract. He's a free agent at this time. Lamar Jackson shouldn't sign the non-exclusive tag because they have been working on a contract for 25 months. It's time for Lamar Jackson to move on to another team because the Ravens wants LJ to get a deal from another team that they can try to match. If the Ravens can match a deal from another team that's much higher than they initially offered LJ, why didn't the Ravens give him a deal in the first place? 🤔Ravens are having LJ jump through uneccessary hoops to get a deal. Again, the Ravens had 2+ years to get a deal done with LJ.

The Ravens have offered 250m total. LJ wants more than Watsons 230m guaranteed and this is the detail they're apart on. It seems like it has to be pretty close to wanting fully guaranteed.
Even 200 would be too much. 250 total means he is 1 of top paid QB in the league as long as he's able to play. How's that not fair? How does missing half the last 2 seasons translate to demanding (nearly) fully guaranteed $? Zero risk to LJ even at the early offer of 133m guaranteed. He gets hurt immediately, he is still mega rich indefinitely. Why doesn't the team get to mitigate their risk some too? How is that not obviously the right, smart way to structure contracts?

If after 2 years you haven’t been able to successfully negotiate a deal, what’s the harm in allowing Lamar the opportunity to successfully negotiate that deal with someone else on your behalf (assuming the Ravens match it)?
Lamar gets what he wants, and, if the Ravens choose to match it, so do they. Win win.
The exclusive tag would always leave Lamar wondering what he could’ve got on the open market and may have fostered resentment towards the Ravens. This way, he knows he’s getting as much as he possibly could’ve negotiated.
All of this does admittedly assume the Ravens have assured Lamar they do want him and are willing to match whatever deal he finds…

It's funny that when a player dumps on an organization or fanbase... at the end of the day the point is always... "Hey it's a business and (insert player here) has to look out for number one"... but when an organization makes a savvy business move it's always... "Where's the loyalty... (fill in the blank) did & for the organization and he deserves better"
Complete nonsense... the Ravens made an unbelievably solid business move regarding a player on their roster. All opinions aside... what the Brows did with Watson didn't just "reset the market" for expectations... it left everyone wondering what the market actually looks like... cus no one really knows.
Did the Saints & Giants just massively overpay for Carr/Jones... opinions on talent aside... did they just get a sweet deal by underpaying... did they hit the nail on the head... no one knows until we see the next wave of "real" contracts... and by "real" I mean the ones that actually "set the market"
Those are supposed to be mid-tier guys getting mid-tier deals... and maybe that's what they got... but we don't know. Those 2 teams (Saints & Giants) are under the impression that they are underpaying for the quality that they are getting... ahead of the upcoming curve that sets the market... before it gets really nuts.

Lamar's been doing this nonsense for 2 year on his end too. I'll bet money on it that he's been faking these injuries and sitting after he hits the sixth game or whatever it is that gets him credit for the season. Lamar's not a victim. He's responsible for this. Now with the Rodgers situation, how many of these teams are just done with this clown? Lamar is cruising into that too. Because how does that team know he's actually gonna show up, or once he gets his paycheck he fakes injuries (looking at you midgat qb Murray) because the clown doesn't have to play. He has underperformed when it matters so many times I would assume the Ravens are letting the market decide his value: if another team offers a huge contract they can match it or, more likely, let him go & rebuild. He isn't worth the same money Mahones, etc earn, that's for sure. He's worth more than Dak Precott & Russell Wilson but those two are the fortunate beneficiaries of moronic decisions by GMs who paid far far too much for their overrated 'talent'; just because Denver & Dallas mess up doesn't mean the Ravens should follow suit. I hope they let LJ go, the way he plays he won't last long anywhere. I do hope the guy gets decent money somewhere though, he comes across as a genuine person & very likeable.

Lamar is going to find out the hard way that Jimmy Haslam doesn't own another NFL team.

Jackson is a one trick pony, same as RGIII was, same a Vick was. They are great at running but are fairly poor throwers. They are prone to injury from all the hits they take from running so much. I know Jackson can hit a wide open receivers because defenses have to focus on his running threat but once he slows down due to all his injuries, the defensive scheme will change and the wide open receivers will be not be as open and then Jackson's accuracy will be a thorn in the Raven's side. Look at Wilson, what has he done since he stopped running and became a pocket QB, utter trash. RG III was out of the league in 3 years because he couldn't run any more due to all his injuries and he was to poor a passer to stay relevant in the game as a pocket QB. Jackson is already on his second serious injury, it won't be long before he's also reduced to be a pocket passer, or like in Wilson's case wants to stop running to prolong his career. He doesn't have the skill to be a pocket passer, so he will also become irrelevant in the game. Giving him a 100% guaranteed contract like the one Watson has will just be wasted money. Good on the Ravens for standing their ground.

They never wanted Lamar. He’s gone. If they really wanted this guy they would’ve resigned him when deshaun was getting his first contract. It’s the ravens fault for waiting until deshaun got that ridiculous second contract .

One thing is unique in Lamars case. There's no agents involved. We all know Watsons fully guaranteed deal is probably what's holding this deal up. Now, would it be impossible that Ravens and Lamar agreed on this unusual course of action to get passed the two year stand still they've reached in negotiations? Lamar gets to prove he's right by finding 200+ fully guaranteed elsewhere. If he does Ravens will accept the price and match it. If not Lamar will agree that Watsons contract is an outlier and accept whatever the market gave him.

Ravens aren't sold on Lamar. If he was really their guy, they would have got it done. I am intrigued by the ATL rumors.
