  • The Young Lords were a Puerto Rican revolutionary group in New York City that came out of the civil rights era and made a huge impact on the Big Apple. Tinabeth Piña reports on the history of this group thru an exhibition made possible by The Bronx Museum of the Arts, El Museo del Barrio, and The Loisaida, Inc. Center.

Great documentary. But, I'm curious. Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York, had a large Puerto Rican, community in the city of New York. I know because, I was born and raised there. But, it is never mentioned in any videos I've watched even in this video.

I had two cousins that were Black Panthers out of Chicago. When they would visit me and my family in Providence, Rhode Island, they would always take me with them Boston, Mass. and up through what was called at the time Spanish Harlem and talk that talk with the Brothers and Brown skinned Guardians known as The Young Lords. The unity I saw was amazing! Peace.

I applied to become a young lord on Madison Avenue 112 street & east 111 street across from the Tropicana it was very intriguing at my age to understand what was going on around me en el Bario , Harlem U.S.A. and the social injustice that was going on and that it wasn't OK and that I was a human bean that we all were not just the whites , I can recall a chant that we use practice and went like this , Pa riba pa bajo los Yankees pal carajo.

Documentary should include the fact that The Young Lords started as a Puerto Rican street gang in Chicago by Jose Cha-Cha Jimenez. Not by NY college students. The NY Chapter started in July 26, 1969 but the original Chicago Lords became politicized in 1968 and also started the original Rainbow Coalition with the Black Panther Party, Patriot Party and Rising up Angry. Lets be more transparent about history.

Very true...ideological differences between the two groups led to them separating. I believe Felipe Luciano and Denise Oliver wanted to evolve into politics and
CHaCha Jiménez and the Chicago faction disagreed at the time. So NYC faction became the Young Lords Party...

Finally an independent thinker! I agree 100%, and these guys were not the sweethearts they're painted out to be. They were thugs and got their message across or try to at least with violence. I get it people are angry... There's a way to go about these things that don't include blinding the majority of the population that don't think for themselves! Socialism really?! Were they not paying attention to our Cuban cousins? Ridiculous

Charles Herbert Allen wired Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 entire sugarcane economy 💰 to Wall Street which is Domino Sugar today. The US Government robbed the island 🇵🇷 from their resources like coffee, tobbaco, Rum, sugarcane, vegatables and fruits. The Jones Act Law since 1920 has Boricuas 🇵🇷 today paying the highest taxes meanwhile Congress has you thinking other.
You probably use Domino Sugar today for your coffee and don't know it was robbed from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 (1901-2022...)
