6:05 and you are totally right! The description of the Kaiden mercenary ahses in 1.0 explicitly said that "The northern mercenaries are said to carry the blood of giants in their veins, and wield curved cleavers with ease."
Man I wish fromsoft give us more details of the kaiden soldiers I really wanna know what happened to their homeland and I always like this channel when it comes to elden ring lore keep on growing on this channel!
Also take into consideration that Rennala is descended from the astronomer stock of the north. She and her kids are all taller than normal humans. So we might surmise that a Radahn sized human and a troll sized giant could also be an option here. It's sort of like breeding dogs of vastly different sizes -- as long as the chihuahua is the male and the great dane is the female, love finds a way without uterusplosion.
I always considered the Kaiden mercenaries as distant cousin to the Varangian Guard or Jomsviking. Armor in my opinion is a 8/10. Used their armor for my Thor build.
This LAD has been carrying me through my Elden Ring playthrough. Leveled up enough, he starts putting out serious staggers and damage. I feel so proud of him
it's interesting also that the Kaiden's moveset seems to be heavily inspired by Margit (the held overhead slam) and Godrick (the lowered, running uppercut)
You pointing out the corpses of those sellswords in certain areas perked my interest the most, albeit sad stories. The nobles that hired them also tell interesting stories. Great vid again.
my guess is the noble ran ahead while the sellswords fought the octopus and he was ravaged by the bats found by him. I think he was searching for the blue dancer charm. the shamzir is found on him. he might be a fan of the blind swordsman
So cool! The Kaiden are my favorite non knight enemy and my weapon of choice for my sorcery playthrough is the dismounter! Thank you for making this video :)
I wonder. Did those Kaiden and noble go into that cave for that talisman? The blue dancers talisman. Maybe they wanted to carry favor into the Haligtree.
Hey STG! I have a challenging request for a lore video: the Gravity Acolytes you find in the Crater-Pocked Glade. They're a bizarre unique encounter and I can't find ANYTHING on them.
You mean the starcallers? They're pretty straightforward actually! They deify the falling star beasts, use gravity sorceries, and search for gravity stone at impact sites.
These Kaiden warriors are one of my favorite enemies in the whole game for they not only look badass, drop a great armor set and weapon, but also teach new player spacing rather well. That’s why I visit their camp near the gateway in the beginning of every of my playthroughs in order to duel them, both on and off horseback.
Worth mentioning is the fact that the Kaiden helm has a very similar design around the eyes as the Nox Mirrorhelm. So perhaps there is a connection between the cultures.
In my first playthrough, when I arrived at the mountaintops, I assumed we would travel through several Kaiden camps or ruins, but there weren't that much of them there, if at all It would've been cool to see something similar to a home like the Zamor ruins or something of the sort
Hi. I love your videos. You have such a coherent exploration of Elden Ring's lore. I was wondering if you can do a section on each of the outer gods. I find them enigmatic and fascinating.
Hm, somehow I've never noticed the Kaiden bodies in that cave despite being through there at least five or six times. Well I guess you learn something new every day. Also one very minor correction that isn't really important at 6:24 through 6:37 you refer to the "Sword of Milos" as the "Sword of Minos" replacing the L with an N. Also one somewhat dark thought I had about this weapon was that since the Sword of Milos is made from Milos' backbone it's name is a bit...morbid. While most times when you hear "Sword of [insert name]" you'd expect that it means that it was a possession of that person...not made of them XD
The first time I beat one (on foot) I thought it was a boss, but it only dropped 300 runes and no loot, and then seconds later, another Kaiden showed up.
Wonder if settlement Kaiden resides in the Badlands. We never find any of the mercenaries or their home at the Mountaintops of the Giants or the Consecrated Snowfields minus that one carriage train with the wandering nobles and the one outside Ordina Liturgical Town.
Not sure if it could be since they're confirmed to come from the north. Our only glimpse of the Badlands is at the beginning when we see Horah Loux impaled. It seems to look much more barren than snowy.
I want to know more about their homeland if I'm honest, I wish fromsoft would make at least a little item description on the kaiden settlement, maybe even their culture. since they are northerners and are adept in a certain battle art, I feel like their viking-like culture would be really intriguing to learn about.
The answer might’ve be at the beach near the church in limgrave, there is a lone kaiden at a camp, there are lots of shipwrecks too. The description might have referred to Kaiden being in an entirely different land and not the mountain tops we know. Since they are obviously supposed, to be vikings. Kaiden might be in a mountainous land north of the lands between.
I always wondered if maybe they came from north of the lands between, not the mountaintop of the giants. You can see a few of them next to some sunkin boats
Idk if your still reading these but what if those giant skulls in both Caelid and mountain tops are different flame gods, there are seemingly older than the fire giants and spear to have normal rib cages and the descriptions on all these with the fell god says “A Fell God” not the fell god but A. Meaning there’s more? Most of all the gods in Elden ring had forms or still have forms to themselves.
I still read every comment! The giant skulls in Caelid and the mountaintop are still incredibly mysterious. I believe they're from a time well before even the dragons, but the idea that there were multiple fell gods seems plausible.
Honestly it make’s me believe that the kaiden are a wondering tribe of mercenary that doesn’t stay in a location for to long, leaving nothing behind on their journey.🤔🐱
Okay there HAS to be a reason for the similarities between the Leather Crown and the Kaiden Helm... maybe the "highland warriors" refers to the settlers of Kaiden??
Speaking of the set, dont you think that the fur cape could be connected to albinauric archers?. I was thinking rhat the fur may be from the wolves furs which were belong to albinaurics as well. Maybe the kaiden killed some albinaurics archers and took the wolves lives to get fur for getting warm clothes.
@@square-table-gaming It's the same as how I don't think the Northerners actually hail from the mountaintops. The North does not *necessarily* mean the Mountaintops of the Giants (which, if memory serves, are supposed to be forbidden lands, anyways). Both the Kaiden and the Northerners I believe it likely to have arrived from outside the Lands Between (likely also why the bulk of their number seems to be in Limgrave, specifically), though I agree on their reasoning being fairly obvious (mercenary work, either for the nobles or for Godrick), and in fact I (also) believe it likely the Kaiden themselves are Northerners due to their manner of dress.
I do not believe the Kaiden's homeland is the mountain, there's no evidence of their culture like there is for the Giants and the Ice people. I think Kaiden is a land even further north that we unfortunately do not have the ability to explore like the Land of Reeds for example. In Limgrave to the west of the Church of Ellah you can find a beach with a Kaiden taking a nap beside a crashed boat. I think it'd be far more likely that the Kaiden's sailed down to the Lands Between rather then them being natives.
All we know is that their songs make fun of the Golden Order for being in such horrible shape after abusing creatures like them for eons If I remember correctly
they are pretty bad at horse combat tbh. never had problem with them during horse battles, even when i started playing. they have the worst attack timing out of all mounted enemies.
Love these dudes, they make a great early enemy, both as a tougher humanoid enemy and and intro to mounted combat. They make good punching bags.
They're also very fun to do a playthrough as
6:05 and you are totally right! The description of the Kaiden mercenary ahses in 1.0 explicitly said that "The northern mercenaries are said to carry the blood of giants in their veins, and wield curved cleavers with ease."

Ah, a fellow enjoyer of Kaiden Sellsword Ashes! I’m very happy that I’m not the only one out there
I call mine Chadicus, & he's pulled victory from the jaws of defeat for me more than once
3:53 OK I did not know this definitely looking forward to this story
I love their roars ❤
Awwww yes. My Saturday ritual.
Excellent choice of subject matter
Best lore channel for Elden Ring!

I think Raging Wolf was a Kaiden. He was serving the caster in the two on two fight in the capitol round table hold
I was very surprised when I found a little Kaiden camp near to painter's cabin. Those guys are cool. I hope we can mert a Kaiden npc on dlc.

This is the moment the Ring became Elden

Maybe also wanting the power of the blue dancer for himself.
Also should point out: sellswords were using a heavy and broad sword in a narow cave, so it may be falure of noble who run ahead and not sellswords
@Lazymindflayerwithcofffee If goblin slayer taught me anything, its that long slashy weapons in a dark cramped cave equal bad ending

I was thinking if you already have covered the Kaiden...now you did 🙂
This is my top #1 Elden Ring lore channel, i like your calm voice. VaatiVidya have too long videos, he talking 50min about nothing
Wow, thank you!
These guys are some of my favorite. I wosh fromsoft would have made their factoon more relevant or mentioned. They are badasses for hire.
At first when I encounter this foe I was ambushed by one and I assumed the rider was a tarnished rival.
love the ashes as well, he's not top tier but he still has satisfying aggression and hits just hard enough

That would make sense. The only furred animals we see in the mountain tops are wolves
Do the feather birds count? Or the furry demihumans?
@@TiberiusRex182 personally I think the color and fur look much closer to wolf pelts.
@@square-table-gamingeah. Plus not sure whether they wear trolls furs as well. So most likely wolves.
A yes the giantkin
Honestly, I'm somewhat doubtful that the Kaiden call the mountaintops home, because we see like a total of three houses in the entire zone.
Their flavor text would have to be wrong then
