Are you cloth diapering or practicing elimination communication? Considering doing both? What other questions do you have about cloth diapers for EC?

Sorry I look so pink in this video! Something must have gone wrong in the color correcting step...

Thank you so much for all of the information you share about EC! I'm expecting my first child this summer and am still unsure what is a better option for quick EC diaper changes: prefolds or flats. It seems like most ECers use prefolds, but where I live in Germany we hang-dry all our laundry and in the cooler months of the year it can really take a while to dry, so I'm a bit skeptical about using prefolds. Would you still recommend them, despite the longer drying time? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi! Since you will be hang drying, flats would be better. Flat cloth diapers have worked fine for us from newborn up to now at 4 months old. I still lay my baby down for diaper changes, so I have been able to put origami folded flats on him (no Snappi or pins). As he gets more mobile, I will be adding in training pants soon.
I recently did the Flats Challenge. For one week I used only flat cloth diapers and two wool covers. I handwashed and hung to dry the flats. I have a whole playlist on the Flats and Handwashing Challenge.

By the way, I'm planning on bedsharing and am not sure how to protect the mattress naturally. I guess I could just use something only under the baby instead of a king size solution? Not sure what my options are, I can only find polyester stuff! Thank you 🥰

This is what I've spent the whole day researching. I keep going back and forth. One option is a king size wool moisture barrier (matress protector). They are expensive and from some reviews certain ones may leak. It also may be difficult to wash since it's so big. If I lived somewhere that I could find used wool blankets I would felt them and make my own.
You could use a wool puddle pad that just covers part of the bed. I show one of those in my video of Newborn EC Supplies.
I'm leaning towards an organic cotton mattress protector that has 2 layers of organic cotton sandwiching a layer of PUL (plastic). They are less expensive and partially natural. Naturpedic and Avocado Green Mattress sell them. I need something truly waterproof since I will be birthing at home. Probably not in bed, but jusy in case my water breaks...
Best of luck figuring out what works for you. 💜 Heidi

I was wondering when you were due!! February! (I'll be looking out for more EC videos, I'm definitely a novice on this but I started to look into it with my last baby and got a little lost)

Yep, February! Just a couple more months to go. I'll be sharing our EC and cloth diapering journey. I have posts on the EC Peesy blog about starting elimination communication and preparing for EC with a newborn. Take care. 💕 Heidi
