- After digging out over 100 lily bulbs from a large pot in his previous video - (to see how we dug out all those bulbs follow this link • digging over 100 lily ... )
Roger is now planting out about 10 of the biggest lily bulbs back into the pot with some fresh compost - so the 'magic can start again' and can enjoy another 10 years of beautiful fragrant summer flowers from this colourful Oriental Lily called 'Garden Party'.
One of the common questions asked about bulbs of any type is 'How deep do I plant my bulbs' Roger shows that he plants his lily bulbs quite deep (about 4 - 5 inches / 10 - 13 cms) this provides some protection from frost damage and also allows baby bulbs to grow around the base of the stem below soil level - which you can see does work in his previous video when he digs out 100's of lily bulbs out of his pot here is that video • digging over 100 lily ... . #how #howdeep #Bulbs #plant #easy #exotic #should #planting

You make me laugh. So cheeky.
Marvellous video, always learning, looking forward to the next installment. 👍
Thanks - me too!
You inspired me to propagate my lilly bulbs by scaling, thankyou.. it's looking good 👍
Thanks Natasha!
Hello, should I put gravel at the bottom of the pot?
Hi Nikki, thanks for your comment.
Yes some sort of drainage is usually a good idea, I sometimes use broken pots or larger stones on the bottom and then a layer of gravel over the stones, as well as helping drainage it can slightly filter the water that runs through the bottom so it is less likely to stain my patio
@Roger Crookes Thanks for the reply Roger, I'll go searching for some gravel!
Hi I'm from Philippines and I ve watched your video many times over and over and until decided to plant my own. since you have a lot of bulbs can you send me bulbs pls. Thank you in advance.
Hi, thanks for your comment and for watching my videos.
Unfortunately it is not easy and we are not allowed to send bulbs overseas…otherwise I would be happy to …
This video is from over a year ago, I did give away some of the bulbs but it was to people who live near me so it was easy.
Hopefully you can find some lily bulbs in the Philippines - good luck and God bless you.
Please let us know if you manage to get some bulbs, thanks
Hello. Where did you get your planting pots from?
Hi thanks for your interesting question …to be honest I can’t quite remember exactly where we got the pots, it would have been from one of the very good garden centres we have around us here in south wales possibly Pughs garden centres. Are you on the uk?
@@rogthegardener1 yes
@@teeteeme5752 which garden centres do you have near you, any good ones?
@Roger Crookes yes...B&Q...I might have a check in there.
@@teeteeme5752 worth trying B&Q, but I would also look in good independent garden centres… I have visited over 200 around the uk … roughly where are you - I might know a good one near you ?
Great video Roger, thanks for that. Now that the temperatures are a bit milder I might venture out into the garden this week and do my pot of lilies. A quick question, do you ever cut the lilies for a vase or just leave them where they are? I’m growing quite a few cut flower this year and wondered if these were good for cutting. Thanks Deb
Hi Deb - great channel name by the way! - Yes the can be lovely for cutting .. you can fill your house with perfume 😃
To be honest I usually wait for some stormy weather to damage a few stems and cut the bending / snapped stems to use in the house ... you can buy cut lily stems at a florist and pay a lot of money for them .. so much more satisfying to grow your own methinks?
@@rogthegardener1 cheers Roger, it’s amazing how much knowledge you can get from watching TH-cam isn’t it. I don’t have a channel as I’m rubbish with technology etc but I love watching other gardeners channels. I don’t suppose you know anything on how to divide lychnis. I’ve grown some from seed last year and they’re huge so I’d like to divide them if possible and give some to friends and family. They were quite expensive seeds so I don’t really want to kill them by not knowing what I’m doing. I’ve contacted another youtuber re the same question. Thanks Deb
@@Tea_and_thyme_2012 hi Deb, sorry I must have missed your last comment / question- did you make any progress with your lychnis?
@@rogthegardener1 no worries Roger I eventually dug them up and shared them with my friends and neighbours. I think someone said they were best not divided so I didn’t want to risk losing them. Thanks anyway. Deb

Thanks for your comment - a few people have mentioned the music like you so I am using it much less now - enjoy your garden
