    Javier has installed solar generators in over 40 homes thanks to viewer donations, and he’s continuing his mission to help every day. Thanks for watching and please consider visiting Puerto Rico- it’s truly an incredible place!

    Wow I watched Jehu's video months ago, after discovering his channel from casey's videos. Even though I don't know them directly, they are Puerto Ricans and thats enough to make them part of my family. Really thanks for coming here and making a difference.

    I'm from the Bahamas. Back in 2004, Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne hit the country back-to-back. The island I was living on at the time, Grand Bahama, was hit especially hard. Frances remained stationary over the island for three days; constant winds and rain for 72 long hours. Then, Jeanne came just two weeks later with nearly the same amount of force. The majority of the island was without power for three whole months. Food stores were closed for several weeks. All fresh supplies had to be shipped in by boat, which required us residents to stand in the hot sun at the harbor every single day HOPING we get a package. The situation was so bad, fights would break out over things like gas and ice. I was six at the time so my memory of all the details is foggy, but I do remember very clearly how hard it was.
    I say all this to make the point that I relate completely to the citizens of Puerto Rico. It's sad to see another natural disaster have this type of effect. Those who've never been through a storm (or other disaster) such as this can never fully comprehend how hard something like this is to deal with.

    • @morosis82
      @morosis82 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      And they're only going to become more common, unfortunately. We have similar issues in far north Queensland, in Australia, and though being physically connected the rest of the country means the cleanup and rebuilding effort gets ahead a bit quicker, quite often for several weeks they are in much the same predicament, relying on fresh food and supplies being trucked in (sometimes flown in, when the trucks cannot get through) until power can be restored.
      Personally, I think with modern tech we can make this largely a thing of the past, except for the food component - distributed power and storage will have a huge effect on communities dealing with these types of tragedy.

They are the ones suffering the most at this moment. We need 20 Javier’s to train 200 to put rooftop solar in these unpowered villages. I volunteer with grid alternatives , we do this training in the poorest of neighborhoods in LA . We have warehouses of unused solar panels siting in port of Long Beach, we just need a ship to take them to Puerto Rico.

    1st time i see those panels sitting there...Give 4 per house...I have watched Jehu, and his generator is nice for small usage...But if you watched Jehu, he is building VW's into Powerwalls...You guys are onto something, but you just have to switch to small 48v-1kw lifepo4 packs that can be used for small transport,taxi, as big as how many packs you want to buy...I think Jehu has 36-100ah packs in his VW...A couple small 1kwh packs could have this lady an etrike, and sell power to others!..Power cables are the past!!! Home grown power!!!

    Great video and thanks for everyone helping PR when they needed help the most. This is what happen when you neglect for years the power grid in PR. It's a shame when the money needed to fix the grid and power plants, goes into politicians pockets. Also, housing constructions need to be approved before construction and inspected after the job is finished. Poor housing constructions = total destruction when a hurricane hits. Same goes for not maintaining the power grid. For years the Island was spared by many hurricanes. Complacent hit everyone thinking the island was untouchable by hurricanes. Politicians kept putting $$$$ in their pockets, making puerto ricans believing everything was ok and everything was getting fixed. I am glad things are getting better in PR, but next hurricane season is coming and I hope puerto ricans are safe and prepared for the season.

    So inspiring to hear great stories coming out of this disaster. Destruction can be a creative force. I would never wish this tragedy on PR, but seeing the island develop a sustainable power system out of necessity is a positive thing, and new solutions that grow out of this can shape future development of the world.

    its a start! I could not imagine what hardships the people of Puerto Rico are going through. How they let their goverment over the years put them into total financial ruin through corruption and greed. Its my understanding that a lot of people incharge of major government agencies were not capable of running these agencies that provide the basic needs such as water, power and other utilities that are taken for granted in the United States. Hats of to those giving some temporary relief to those who need it.

      They only sell the batteries or the power that comes out form them. Their installations are not for free and only helps the gov and not the common people of the Island.
