Oh my god I feel you. We have a leak to our roof that we build ...and it's an horrible feeling after 2 months job on that roof. We definitly took more than we can shew and we are soooo tired. Renovation is hard. Be gentle on yourself. Lot's of support from far (Belgium ). 🤟🤍
Oh thank God! I needed to see you! Thank you for girding your loins and not giving up. Rachel- my best friend killed herself on Thursday. We had plans, she was moving to VT to live with me! But she couldn’t take it, divorce, losing her house, horrible children. Now she is gone and I’m all alone without my Gigi. So so sad- so I’m refinishing an antique Hoosier and using power tools! Godammit!!!

Enjoy the journey, you are young and beautiful, friends are still showing up and I know living in a remodel mess 'FEELS' less than who you really are. You are so much more, you are able to do all that reno work so you can get to the part that reflects who you are ! In your DESIGN... I'm 3 yrs into what I thought a year would allow me to complete SLOWLY,' removing a wall, moving some electric, laying floors, kitchen and bath cabinets. ...and having to do a project 3 times before it is done right.

At first it was mourning and your adrenaline went towards things you could control. Our bodies eventually crash. Now that the crash is over you’re learning balance. Your breakdown is exactly where I'm at too with my own studio. I'm this close to closing it down because it just feels like a bigger burden than it's worth but then I'll have a period of time where everything is falling into place. It's so tough doing everything on your own, but we're doing the best that we can and we'll get through it.

Rachel, since I've found your channel you've been a big motivator for me as a woman new in the world of carpentry and construction. I often feel like I don't have it in me to take on the challenges ahead with such little skill or experience in my tool belt. You've come to mind several times; moments I'm afraid to cut rebar or move heavy bags of concrete. Even setting up a camera during moments I'd otherwise not. You might feel buried at times beneath your work load, but know how inspirational your work is and how impactful your story is. Thank you for sharing it with the world. You give me a lot of strength, inspiration and empowerment.
I use flat paint because it feels/looks like velvet when using rich deep colors. I know it doesn’t last as long but our kids are adults now so I don’t worry as much. Hugs please try to remember when you are feeling down you have a lot of people who want the best for you. 💕 I was telling my daughter and granddaughters (5 & 9) about you today as they put together a hall table. How impressed I am with your abilities.

I had a mentor once when I first started out in my career who told me that the biggest advice that he would give to his younger self would be "to stop worrying and enjoy the path because it will all work out". I've really tried to remember that and when I look back on times in my life where I was really worried about what I was doing I can now see that they were beautiful moments and I wish I could go back and relieve them and really soak them in. There's romance in the loneliness and the solitude that you're in right now. I hope you can find it and enjoy the journey. Love that your back and sharing more ❤
For what it's worth I'm proud of you Rachel. You're doing a great job and asking for help when you need it is a sign of strength. I've been trying to work through ongoing home improvement projects with a side of depression and crappy life events and even getting your head in the zone can feel like an impossible challenge. You're doing good and you will get what you need to get done and it will feel great as you check things off your to-do list.
Girl, your honesty and the peeks into your life have me wanting to give you the biggest virtual hug. I just bought my first house and have some baby Reno to do and I am not a handy women AT ALL so I am nervous! but I love seeing the vulnerable parts bc it makes me feel normal when things aren’t as easy. I’ll def need to give myself grave throughout my home journey too!
My situation is different, but I can relate to feeling overwhelmed. I remind myself to keep moving forward and it will all work out. I also think we are too hard on ourselves. You are doing great and the trailer looks fabulous!
You can have as many cries as many breaks and as many cracks as you need to have the most important thing is getting back up and showing your resilience and that is what you did with this renovation and that is all that is important. Love the floors and window sills! And Rachel, I see you struggling, I know things are hard, but the only way forward is through it (forgive the cliché). Working on yourself (like breakups, finding yourself, getting your shit together) is a LOT like renovating a house. First there is demo and destruction, then comes all the prep work and THEN you get to the fun/pretty stuff. You can't skip the prep, it will come back to bite you (like a leak that ruins the pretty you had) It is tempting to skip because you just want something pleasant and nice. (like a new relationship before you are really ready for it) So, just keep working on yourself, your career and your property. You will thank yourself later. *hugs*

Renovating and building are both challenges when you are doing it almost all alone but that makes it all the more rewarding. Just make an overall vision take it in pieces and make lists and don’t look at the bigger picture too often. Just stay in the tasks. You got it!!

I hate drywall! It is the worst. The sanding the dust, he bending at weird angles to hold it up, missing the stud and getting more angry. I am totally with you. I cried all through the drywall week when we were building our house.
