Thanks! It was crazy timing to be in the water during an active oil spill. Gave me a new perspective on things, which I tried to convey in the video.

Great video like always. Indeed it's a sad moment with that oil spill... but videos like yours bring us divers hope...

Thank you. I think there is hope for the area and that it will recover, but watching an ecological disaster of this magnitude unfold is unnerving. People tend to protect what they care about and only really care about what they understand.
My goal for the video was to highlight the local environment such that people gain a little better understanding and love for it.

My buddy Jon was diving with us at Pt Lobos today. He and a couple other guys took their scooters out to do a tech dive, and on his way back, at 110 fsw saw a Great White 40ft away from him. He was like a kid at Christmas when he got back. I think of adventures like that never happening because of an oil spill. I hope they can get it clean as possible

Wow! That's awesome! What a great experience. Do you ever see sea lions when diving in the area?

Thanks! 👍 Diving in your local area is certainly on our ToDo list. Not sure when we’ll make it just yet, but we’ll be sure to reach out when we nail down a timeframe.

Hi Jeff awsome video and narration ass always !
was the any concern for getting tangled in the kelp ?
I was always told it is a place not to go.
The oil spill is bad is it as big as the one at deep water horizon ?
Are you able to get some video of it or is it off limits?
You are taking us on the dives thru the lens of your camera !
    Have a great day !

Thank you! There is a risk with getting tangled in kelp, so I took it slow, picked my routes, and had a knife (but it probably would have been best to have more than one cutting tool)
During deepwater horizon there were 134 million gallons of oil spilled into the ocean. At the Huntington Beach oil spill there were about 126,000 gallons, so by comparison not as bad.
I wasn’t able to get any video of the oil directly as they had the beach and water secured for cleanup efforts, but the USCG just released these images of the cracked pipeline.

Great questions! Thanks again for all the support.

I like how you are always on the edge !
That night dive with the sea horse ,
      Great whites !
Now strolling into the kelp forest !
      Awsome awsome videos !
I was in the Bahamas by marsh harbour in 1972 I dug a hole in the sand by the sea shore I got down about a foot and I dug thru a layer of crude oil about a inch thick then sand again the locals said back in the 50s there was a oil spill on the beach they had no way of cleaning it up
Eventually the earth will heal itself killing a lot of wildlife along the way .
      I'm diving here again tomorrow
      Likely brail
      You are living the drem!
      For us workaholics !
Good luck on your next adventure !

Hey Jeff I might add back in the 1970s when I was a gas diver they simic sounded the entire of lake Erie mapping the underground gas field there is also oil under the lake and the last thing they want to do is strike oil and have a oil spill in in lake Erie it would be a major environment disaster millions of people rely on the lake for fresh water not only did they map the gas reserves they also found every shipwreck in the lake
On weekend warrior dive weekends we check them out.

    • @TritonsRealm
      @TritonsRealm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Wow. An oil spill in Lake Erie would be a significant problem, and I had no idea there was oil under there. It sounds like a nice side effect of the project was locating all the shipwrecks. Very cool.

Hi Jeff 20 mils east of Detroit is a town called oil springs it is where they first discovered oil in the area
      North of pele Island
About a mile inland from the lake there are active horse head oil wells pumping oil every day
I just found out Alex pierce
From Alex pierce tex tips and I are practically neighbour's we have been e mailing at some point we might get together for a dive
Since I am new to you tube I find there are great diver channels and great people out there like you
      It snowed here today
      Have a great day

Crude oil is radioactive and toxic that can get people sick on shore as well.
