    Don't forget everyone, winter is close, check your bug out bags, swap out for winter gear, add gloves and warm socks and such. Anyone in the North get your car kits ready with a shovel, a pair of boots and a blanket or two. add a bag of kitty litter or sand to your trunk for traction on snow or pour it on ice if you are spinning your tires. Keep in mind a car is harder to start in the winter, a weak battery may not be noticed until it is freezing out, keep jumper cables in your trunk kit too.

      About harsh winter car protocol... so few people bother charging their car batteries every 2 weeks. A $20 charger + a $20 extension cord can mean all the difference between getting home... & getting stranded. Even 1-2 hrs charging every couple of weeks makes a difference.

    I got the AC200max. I tried it out yesterday on our new GE freezer. It the biggest freeze (right below commercial grade). I ran it for about 11 hours. I used only 43% of the power storage (57% remaining). One of the main reasons for buying this solar generator was to keep our refrigerated/frozen food safe incase the power goes out and there are fuel shortages. We definitely have fuel generators as back up but after buying the generator and solar panels, the solar fuel (sunlight) is free. With the way the fuel prices are going up and possible rolling blackouts during the winter I'm 100% glad that I made this purchase.

    We have used the th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOTeIs0vv4_9B5hsmnLsk9r930uDQLu_Y for probably 30 hours with our camper and it’s been great! The noise level is really only noticeable when running the AC and other appliances like the microwave, hair dryer, or coffee pot. It’s not huge like other ones and it has wheels so even at 90lbs, I can move it!

    Bought this unit for a 2-week road trip in our camper-van to handle a portable fridge and microwave and recharge other gear. I plugged the fridge into the battery and the battery charged off the car, but it was a net zero, so just ran the fridge off the car while driving and let it act as a cooler at night. Used the microwave to heat up and cook food. Slept in the car the whole time and did not have solar panels. When we got home we still had 69% still on the battery. I plan to get a couple of B300 units for home backup, but this works great for extended road trips with everything all-in-one.

    I've been using Bluetti AC200MAX generator with three 285 watt panels and my electric bill is reduced by 60%. Also, if I need to take the generator anywhere like camping, or to a job site for equipment all I have to do is load it in the truck. I keep the panels plugged in and it is running my TV, Stereo, Computer, living room lights, guitar amplifier, microphones. I'd never put on FIXED PANEL SYSTEM. Going Portable is the way to go. I haven't got the money to buy an additional battery yet but maybe next year. But when the power goes out...NOT IN MY HOUSE. Thank you Bluetti.

    Large power stations are for people who are not technical.
    For the price, DIY will gets you 2x the capacity of any large power station.
    You can also add more capacity by adding extra batteries and solar panels.
    By going modular, you can swap out any defective units or upgrade at any time.
    High quality units also come with great warranty and support. Victron is of the sellers.

    I have 45 years experience living w/ both Florida hurricanes & Colorado blizzards. An average US home uses 48 KWhrs per 24 hr daily cycle. Let that sink in a moment. These "solar generators" store only a small fraction of that. My experience over 20 hurricanes & a few blizzards is that power outages last 2-7 days. This thing ain't gonna git 'er done. I have a Westinghouse 6,600/5,300W gasoline generator. I get 10 hrs off 8 gallons. During Hurricane Ian last month, I went thru $140 gasoline over 3 days. But I had all the electric power (50 amp) I wanted. These "solar" are useful for...
    things that don't require more than a few hours of power for light loads. If you can afford 4 of these, each capable of 12KWhrs, then you could charge them off a gasoline generator & run quiet for 16 hrs/day. Those four 12KWhr battery packs are gonna run you north of $10K. My gas generator was $800, including shipping. I bought it 2 years ago. You do the math.

    Love the video! I got the AC200max paired with a B300 Battery. I'm able to run my whole house besides 220v, like stove or dryer. However, my house is 1,300sqft and has a generator hookup at the panel. I was able to convert the RV hookup to work with the 30amp generator hookup to my panel. I'm able to run my furnace for 6-12 hours. However, if I run all my appliances and tech. I only get 4 hours from 5,000 watts total. I may be picking up another B300 to give me a few more hours. My furnace is a single stage goodman which was installed 6 months ago. It's fairly new and efficient. It pulls about 400 watts.
    I connected mine with two power adapters, 2x400w input each. I am able to input 800 watts from my gas generator or grid power which would take 6 hours to charge. However this was perfect for me and my family, because ideally I would only be using the batteries at night when a generator is too loud to run all night. At night there isn't much usage and it's really so i'm not tripping over my dog's toys, using the restroom and HEAT. The heating was a big deal for me, living in Washington State where we're known for power outages was awesome to have this so we don't freeze when the powers out and generator is past quiet time.
    Overall, I couldn't be more happy with this purchase. It's not for everyone, it costed me about $3,300 for AC200 Max with B300 Battery. I think we all wish we had more power but for 5,000 watts I can't complain. The cool thing too is during the day, I'm able to run my generator and charge these up to get ready for night time. I don't have the solar panels yet but looking at Bluetti's foldable ones soon.

    • @PracticalPreparedness
      @PracticalPreparedness  ปีที่แล้ว

      I see, so you’re input is from the generator it sounds like. You thinking of adding the full 900 or more watt panel setup to drive the input up throughout the day?

    • @bry4162
      @bry4162 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tek,
      That sounds like a great set-up, congrats!
      Just got my AC200max today.
      Want to use it as back up for any power outages.
      If you run 1400 watts of solar - you won't need to use your generator possibly?
      I've read people "overpanel" to draw in massive and fast charging of this unit,
      but also saw a few warn against doing that too often (good in a pinch though)
      as it may lessen the life of the battery. So maybe a happy medium?
      Or maybe it really isn't a concern - not sure.
      Was wondering if it was possible to hook up to the panel in a different way?
      The cheaper version (that I got) for my dual fuel generator was called a generlink.
      It hooks onto your meter, once it is activated, it cuts your off the grid (to avoid the backfeed)
      Thought I read somewhere that because of the 120/240 aspects of most homes, that this
      unit could not be connected in the way you have (and I the one I'm talking about)
      I wasn't planning on using the 240 items (stove, dryer) and I heat with a woodstove
      but do you know if I could run a well pump through the panel?
      Would be nice to run the hot water - but unsure of how much that draws...
      Also - hoping to figure out if my A/C (wall mount connects to heat pump)
      would be viable - but that may require a little more research.
      If you have any insights - would really appreciate it - thanks!

    I so appreciate the way you break it down, particularly the fact that none of these units can "power your whole house in a hurricane" 😳🙄 which seems to be the lead in most of the ads. 😬 I bought a Kodiak Inergy back in 2018, and it works great to run small USB, LED and 12v items when plugged in to shore power... But if I run a 1500w hair dryer for a few minutes, even though it's plugged in to power, it will take a couple of hours to recharge!
    I've never used the solar panels that came with it because they're heavy, bulky, etc. I'm keeping an eye out for the lighter, folding/flexible panels to go with a future unit, or even my Kodiak Inergy. I wrote this before I saw your folding panels! I missed the wattage though. My understanding is a minimum of 200w is preferable but more is better? Compatibility of other panels to my Kodiak is probably the biggest challenge I've encountered. Is there any mixing and matching between brands? I'd appreciate any info you have on this. New fan in Oregon.

    • @PracticalPreparedness
      @PracticalPreparedness  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Sophi, you absolutely can mix and match panels with generators. Most will have MC4 connectors. Yes the panel in the vid was a 200, but this station can take OVER the 900watts, but the Voltage cannot exceed what the station can handle. I'd say at least 200 watts for a panel at a minimum, yes. If you are more serious and expect to put the station under heavier loads, I would add stationary or portable panels to reach the max wattage or more (the unit will only take in 900, even if lets say there is 1200 coming in from panels), just be careful not to exceed the voltage going to the power station is all.

    • @sophirichmanfletcher4657
      @sophirichmanfletcher4657 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PracticalPreparedness thank you for your kind reply. I noticed on the Bluetti site that under the folding panel says "quantity 3" -- but it's 200w. So are you really getting 3 sets of panels for a total of 600w? Or is that something to ask them? 🤔 And how do we know what voltage not to exceed? I am not good with numbers, and all of these involve so many variables, watts, voltage, amp hours 😳

    Did some ROI calculations and this unit in EU costs 1,999€ on SALE. Here electricity is 30c/kWh so you would have to charge this unit 6,663 times. Charging once a day using solar panels (not added here that coast €899) it would take 18 years to get your money back. €1,999 is equivalent to 600 kWh or 2 years of electricity use in a 70m2 apartment with floor heating and 3 people. So the initial cost of this unit without solar panels and additional batteries is your energy bill for 2 years.

    I'm actually looking at this seriously as a whole house solution for 2 to 3 hours span during possible planned grid blackouts. I have a transfer switch setup which feeds multiple circuits in the house that was originally in place for a gas generator plugged in from the outside. I can tap into it directly from its basement location with a 30 amp connection. Do you feel this can handle a natural gas fired furnace and refrigerator with a smattering of lights for that duration? Nice review by the way and much appreciated!

    • @smalltownhomesteadAC

      That is my precise setup. It will depend on the gas furnace. Newer ones can run for as little as 50 watts hour. Older es can be 800 watts. I have this bluetti, two of the expandable batteries, with currently 800 watts of solar. Internal transfer switch with 2nd panel is being installed shortly.

    You'd need about 1800 watts (or more) of 'rated' solar panels. And all 4 expansion batteries.
    But yeah you could set up an energy-miserly abode which works with that probably. More likely you could just use it for "less dependent" on-grid.
