Hands down the most gifted and talented of them all was R9. Yes it was short lived and yes he didn't achieve it all.. but regardless he was flawless as a player.

Sem Koelewijn Cruif was good too, but I liked Van Basten more...he did everything with a such ease that it was mesmerizing to watch him and he had larger arsenal of various ball control tricks however he used them only when he definitely needed them...after so many years is still pleasure to watch him...overall only Messi surpassed him

Squidrito I agree that you should have as much respect for every generation of players. I strongly disagree when people exclude Pelé for example "because football was not what it is now". He was still the best for his time among the millions playing the sport.
That said, I still think Messi is a more impressive dribbler for his time than Maradona was for his. Messi keeps the ball so close to him, plus I think he has slightly better physical attributes for dribbling. The way he zig zags like a bee. No one changes directions like him. When you add perfect ball control, you have the perfect dribbler. Maradona had perfect ball control too, but not the same ability to change directions.

Every generation learns from the one that precedes it. So, each player should be judged by how he dribbled his contemporaries, not by how his dribbling compare to players of newer generations ( because the new ones learn those moves and perfect them).
The best? ( That I saw) Maradona, Ronaldo, Cruiff...Ronaldinho looked very much like Ronaldo. Messi has many of the Cruiff moves (the sudden change of speed after an initial false start, etc). Anyway, soon many amazing dribblers. Hard to pick. Also remember: Cruiff (and Maradona)played in a time in which the referees left defenders get away with stuff that would be red carded today

He was a great dribbler but not the best. You see Ronaldinho was an incredible skiller and dribbler but he never realls managed to dribble past 2 players. He was able to dribble until his acceleration fatigued so he isn't the best. For me he still should have been on this list though.

The most accurate list I've ever seen. Respecting history, neutral and with only dribbling skills. For all Dihno lovers, dribling doesn't mean beautiful move. Dribling is to get rid as many opponents while running or in a small area it doesn't have to be with fancy moves necessarily. Messi doesn't make any fancy moves, but he goes through opponents likes they were cones. Dihno barely in his career Dribbles more than 1 player. His moves are elegant ans spectacular , but most of the time doesn't make any difference. It's just beautiful to watch...
Dihno would be probably in a fight with Maradona for the Artist Football Award. He was an artist more than a efficient player.

I saw Romairo, _O Baixinho_, in his prime, and he was also mostly famous for scoring goals. He was an excellent dribbler but he didn't dribble much either, he preferred the ball at the edge of the box. His dribble albeit dazzling was something of 10-20 feet and if not inside the box at least very close. His one-two with Bebeto was legendary but he never dropped too far back. He was one of the best finishers in history. That's why his partnership with Edmundo at Vasco was so good, the latter being not only an excellent dribbler but a steamroller, would reach the box at full force and the goalkeeper would concede a rebound, and Romario would mostly find the net with simply tap-ins, a lob or a lightning speed low cross shot at point blank.

entiendo tu punto de vista, pero en todos los deportes la palabra "dribbling" hace referencia al control y conduccion de una pelota. en handball y basquet es asi, las fintas(messi) y las bicicletas(ronaldo) nada tienen que ver con el dribbling. independientemente de esto, el dribbling puede ser utilizado con distintos fines, riquelme por ejemplo lo usaba mayormente para conservar la pelota, messi lo usa en sus grandes jugadas para acercarse al arco rival y pasar defensores, pero en si el dribbling es dribbling, hace referencia al control que tenes de la pelota. este control se dificulta cuando se ejecuta en velocidad, entonces si algunos jugadores, como messi, maradona, best, gordo ronaldo, pele etc son capaces de pasar jugadores en velocidad y con la pelota cerca del pie, dribblean mejor que aquellos que tan solo pueden dribblean bien mientras van al mero trote con la pelota. de nuevo, es evidente que es mas dificil controlar la pelota si estas corriendo a 22 km por hora que si estas corriendo a 10 km por hora, entonces es mejor dribbleador (controla mejor la pelota) un jugador que dribblea en velocidad, que uno que dribblea elegantemente en el lugar. no solo es mas dificl dribblear hacia adelante sino que es tambien mas productivo y funcional, aunque es evidente que la pausa es necesaria, pero TODOS los jugadores que dribblean hacia adelante y en velocidad tienen la capacidad TECNICA de dribblear en el lugar pisando la pelota para retenerla o para hacer una pausa. luego depende de la creatividad con la que el jugador use esa capacidad tecnica denominada dribbling, si hace una u otra cosa, si frena, si encuentra un espacio por el que seguir avanzando, o lo que sea.

People talk so much of Messi these days. They are mostly the youngsters who have never seen George Best when he was playing in the late 60's. Best is still better than Messi anytime in terms of both dribbling skills and scoring prowess as well. Messi only does well in his dribbling when playing against average defenders. But Best is good in dribbling and ball control even against top defenders in any league.

You have not watched George Best dribble. He is definitely a more accomplished dribbler than Messi is. Who says I have never watched Messi play? He is only good at club level and playing against avrage defenders. When he plays for the national side against top class defenders of opposing countries he is usually very quiet and seldom gets to dribble past them.

Best dribbler? Roger Magnusson, swedish player who was a great star in the french team Olympique Marseille in the late 60's and early 70's. His technical skills were superior to any south americans. I've followed football since the late 60's and other good dribblers, in my opinion have been Dragan Djajic, George Best, Jimmy Johnstone, Libuda, Heinz Flohe, Piet Keizer, Andres Töröscik, Pierre Littbarski, Futre, Ronaldinho and Messi.
