    Beautiful timepiece, I hope you are still happy with it today. I was able to purchase a Datejust 36 blue from my AD this past February (my birthday gift to myself) and have been loving it. My only gripe is that it does a have a slight misalignment with the hour hand like you pointed out... I don't know how that happens, are they letting interns assemble the Datejust and OP lines? I have been keeping track of the timing too, it initially seemed to lose like 4 seconds a day or so, which made me a bit unhappy, but then I realized if I let it rest with the crown down overnight, it is closer to losing one second per day, which is well within spec. Maybe now that I've had it almost six months I'll experiment with other resting positions. But for now, it is mostly sitting on my desk while I work and I happily wear a few other watches during the day (Seiko, Tudor and a Tissot).

      I am very happy with this one. I'd buy a Daytona if my dealer ever offers me one...but not keeping my fingers crossed. Rolex has nice watches, but they're just regular mass produced watches at the end of the day.

    Wow! What an honest and frank review. Thank you very much. I’ve owned four and they never fit comfortably. I even removed a permanent link from an Explorer I polar to no avail. How hard could it be to engineer a micro-adjustment?

      I agree completely about adjustment. I gave up on Rolex since they have given up on all of us. They absolutely need finer adjustments to the bracelet. Hey Brian, can we get a video from you showing top 3 or 5 picks of watches from a technical, functional, and aesthetic perspective?
    Also what is your opinion of Vincero watches? I know they are targeted for new collectors at affordable prices. I have a few and they feel like very high quality to me but as I am new to the watch scene I am interested in an enthusiast's perspective.

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Josiah. That's a great idea for a video, I have it noted and will plan to do it in the near future, behind a few other videos. As for Vincero, I've not handled one directly, though I see this and that about them from time to time. They are in the fashion watch category. Mostly Miyota or Seiko quartz. Can find a lot of comparable brands on other sites for about the same or less cost. What I would tell someone is instead of spending $200 on something like that, buy a nice Orient or something mechanical in that 200-300 range, a nice Seiko perhaps, if a person is just getting started. With not all that much more...$600 give or take, you can get a really nice Swiss Made mechanical watch that will last a lifetime and isn't "throwaway." Like I said, I haven't handled one, but I've handled dozens like them, and it's an ok starting point, but for the price of three or four of those, a really nice watch could be had that is tiers above. Part of the watch enthusiasts journey.

    I never knew Rolex had issues with the alignment so I quickly checked my OP 39 as well. My hands line up perfectly but it made me wonder about QC at their facility and the percentage of watches that roll out with minor and maybe even major issues. Certainly disappointing. Then again, I bought a new AP ROC only to have a screw nearly pop out the first week so it seems no one is immune from shoddy work.

    Hello Brian, IMHO I simply applaud Rolex for their masterful marketing strategy and positioning themselves as one of the most sort after brands in the market place today.
    Rolex's value retention and yes appreciation in value across many models in their lineup is astounding. I agree you can purchase new or previously loved watches from other well known brands such as GS, JLC, Omega etc., etc. in many cases at list or most likely much less then list. What's really frustrating is the simple truth that's it's difficult/impossible to walk into an AD and buy a Rolex at msrp. for any popular models. The more I can't get something....the more I want it. Fortunately I have a fairly good relationship with my AD Hamilton Jewelers in Princeton, NJ and with patience and luck and trust I hope not to pay above retail. A question I keep asking myself, why is Rolex valued so much higher? and the only answer I can come up with....it's a Rolex!

    • @WatchComplications
      @WatchComplications  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good assessment Edward. And I mention that what you’re really paying for at these price points is the brand. I suppose value is in the eye of the beholder much like beauty. I mentioned I would prefer my GS any day, that and the Rolex were only separated by $200 list. But the GS has way more tech, it’s a Spring Drive GMT. For some people the inability to “get one” will turn them off, for others, it will make them want it more. At the end of the day it’s just watches, just stuff. What you have, wear in good health. Thanks for the thoughts :)

    I really like the model that you have, along with the black dial and white dial. I do not like the indices on the new OP 41s nor do I like the bigger size. I agree with you on the brushed links, polished center links for this brand just make the watch look too blingy for my taste (I had a Batman). I would absolutely need to love a Rolex model to consider entering into the Rolex Sweepstakes of hoping to get lucky in today’s market. I am having much more fun searching for off brand at micro brand models that better suit my tastes.

  • @olivertrott5338
    @olivertrott5338 ปีที่แล้ว

    The loomed indices come out too much in darker light so the watch looks like something is missing at 1, 2, 4, 5 etc. The double indices on the new OP look weird, too. The perfect look: Datejust, or the discontinued OP39 white or black.
