  • Double entendre about hardware, clothes dryers, pop-up toasters, flashlights and electric pumps are used to promote Sears apparel. Everything highlighted looks exactly like what you'd expect to find at Sears, but the song is clearly designed for you to be pleasantly surprised with their product offerings.

This has been one of my favorite commercials since I was 13 years old. No explanation. It just hits right.

Fun, energetic vocal performance by the great Jake Holmes.

Thank you for answering that question, I remember his voice in other commercials as well , and wondered who it was .

@@mattmc8391 And this is an unusual, interesting piece of Jake Holmes trivia: Before getting involved in commercial jingles, he was a Greenwich Village acid folk singer in the 60s and he wrote and recorded a song called "Dazed and Confused," which was "borrowed" by Led Zeppelin.

@Brent Mann I know ! I read about that today , so wild where he came from .
I’m 38 now , so most of these commercials I was 10-11 years old and his voice stood out to me even then , so I had this picture in my head of what he looked like after all these years 😂 , so I had to see what he looked like and all this time I’m picturing somebody like Martin Short….
      Have no idea why 😂

@@mattmc8391 When you have a moment, look at this clip of Jake Holmes singing live at a small venue about a dozen years ago.

They always had clothes, but their clothes were never the main reason their core demographic went there, hardlines were. Tim Allen summarized it perfectly back then when he said a man isn't a man until he can find his own way to Sears!

This was a pretty successful rebranding, but it faded pretty fast. The funny thing is, I miss almost all of the failed retail places out there, but never felt any attachment to Sears whatsoever.

"The man department! Crafts--Man!" It's a true shame the everything store has fallen by the wayside. The department store is an awesome model. Tools, t-shirts, and toothbrush holders in a pleasant and respectable place to shop.

In 1998 at least, I saw a "new" logo being made by construction workers at the mall.
